"Neat" Pictures

Maybe this ought to be Creepy Pictures thread, or the Cancer Stop Trying to Destroy the Universe thread.

 

Helix Nebula, in the visible. Famous object, about 220 parsecs away, across the outer fringes it's almost a parsec across. Old planetary nebula; one of the nearest ones to us, large apparent size on the sky, but low surface brightness, so you need a time exposure to see it (discovered 1824 before photography though, so telescope plus eyeball can do it, but it's a difficult target because it is so large so the light is spread out over a big chunk of sky). Many neat images of it.

 

OK, with that background, now look in the infrared. Then compare....
