Apparently Jon Pertwee was instrumental in getting Patrick Troughton to attend conventions. And they had an escalating water pistol fight according to an anecdote that Pertwee told

Which may have peen a mistake -- Troughton would pass away at Magnum Opus Con in Atlanta in 1987. Antony Ainley (then the incumbent Master) helped salvage the event, which became a sort of wake.

Patrick Troughton was a very charming man, but I can't help but think his recurring pranks on the set of Doctor Who would have gotten him in a lot of trouble today.\

And the water pistol fights were very well known. One of the attractions was their battle of one-upmanship when they did a convention together. Houghton was aging and ailing, and Pertwee was not getting all that much work (he had also finished the title role of Worzel Gummidge at about that time) so both needed the appearance fees. But it was not like today where an actor lucky enough to be cast in a cult hit can extend their income by going to conventions and large shows, selling autographs to fans and pocketing an attendance fee, all while having room, board, and travel costs covered in the deal.

Well, if you’re not lucky enough to be surrounded by family and friends when the time comes,  it’s at least nice to know he was surrounded by people who thought he was wonderful and hung on his every word.
