Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

Hi,

Since this is my first attempt at starting a thread, somebody stop me if this has been done before now on these discussion boards.

Basically, I would like people to post their favorite original supervillain groups. You don't have to post all the character sheets or anything extensive, I'm just interested in a theme (if there is one) and the membership. The only condition is that none of the characters can be from a published supplement (though I understand if one of more of the characters shares a name with one which has been published because I do that all of the time). To give you an example of what I'm looking for on this thread, I'm including one of my personal favorites as a guideline. Here's hoping that there are a bunch of responses!

Child's Play

This is a low-powered supervillain team which employs bizarre takes on childhood games and toys. They all have at least two combat skill levels of coordinated attacks with other teammembers. The group tends to hire out as muscle for normal criminal organizations with a "superhero problem" and as cannon fodder for supervillain organizations.

Current Membership:

Dodgeball - Male energy projector able to summon a variety of spherical energy weapons with a variety of special effects.

Double Dutch - Female gadgeteer who employs a combat jump rope as both a shield (force field) and a no range weapon.

Hopscotch - Female Savate expert with teleportation powers which are both based on her acrobatics ability.

The Kite Fighter - A male hit-and-run brawler who flies and swoops on his enemies, but only after finding a tethering point for his power.

Mind Games - Female mastermind and leader of the group who employs variations on brain teasers to distract and confound her opponents.

Pogo - Male brawler who uses a specially-designed pogo stick for a martial art based on move-bys.

Red Rover - Male brick whose specialty is the move-through attack.

(Ring Around The) Rosey - Female energy projector with a no range explosion attack that causes nearby victims to "all fall down."

I hope to hear from you creative types in the near future! :) And thanks in advance for taking the time.

Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

The Furies: (Amazon, Crow, Landslide, Ray, Starlight, Ward)

The Furies are a villain group made up of strongly-feministic females whose primary goal seems to be to liberate women from their “lot” in life. The group’s secondary goal seems to be the destruction of female-oppressive corporations, businesses, and institutions before anymore harm can be done to its female employees. If the villainess group has a third goal it would have to be the utter humiliation of male hero and villain superhumans.

The catch to the group is that they are all female members of the Teen Titans:

Amazon = Wondergirl

Crow = Raven

Landslide = Terra

Ray = Aquagirl

Starlight = Starfire

Ward = Lilith

Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

Let me see if I can remember this one off the top of my head...

Alkahest (The Universal Solvent)

Paracelsus (Leader): He claims to be the actual Paracelsus, 15th century mystic, physician, and alchemist. His weird dress, odd speech patterns, and array of unusual chemical substances seem to bear him out.

Phlogiston: A fiery energy projector with a Victorian motif. No spandex and tights for him. He wears a scarlet variation on a proper gentleman's evening wear, with a red domino mask.

Midas: A huge man who appears to be made of solid gold, dressed like an ancient greek. A brick with incredible always on density increase, stretching (gold is extremely malleable), and a very powerful but draining transformation (anything to gold statue).

Acid Rain: The only "modern" member of the team and the only woman. She can summon quantities of acid which she can use in direct and indirect attacks.

There were another two characters, I think, but I can't remember them now and my notes are in boxes.

I had a similar idea (though not using any published characters); I called my supervillainesses the Feminazis. (Not their name for themselves; they claimed to represent the Feminist Liberation Front. The media tagged them with 'Feminazis', a name they hated, given its 'patriarchal' origin.) They were originally done in 4th edition.

Dominatrix - Leader. Leather-clad whip-using martial-artist/mentalist

Executrix* - Martial artist assassin and group enforcer

Sparta - Blonde-haired blue-eyed femininja.

Olympia - Tomboy/female jock type. Growth/density increase briquette.

Hyperia - Sun-based (not solar) energy powers.

Plus agents trained (mostly) by Sparta.

*stole the name from a 90's Batman villainess

You know, I need to update them to 5ER...

One of the oddest groups I created and subjected my players to was a loose syndicate of metahuman women called MAMA. This stood for the Malveolent Association of Mothers and Aunts.

All the members had names that started with Mother, Aunt, or Sister (or variations of the same). The were created and led by Mother Morphia (and later her successor, Mother Morphine). She was an outstanding chemist who specialized in a wide variety of pharmacopia. She was joined by Auntie Social, a psychotic cyberborg. Others in the groups changed from time to time and I can't remember too many, but there was Sister Sledgehammer (a brick), Aunt Nachronism (a gadgeteer), Auntie Freeze (a cold projector), etc.

There was a male member, or rather pawn, called Pounder. Morphia used him as a body guard.

They were typical (if you ask my players then) of the weird villians I cobbled up for adventures. It got to be that they actually brought sliced cheese to throw at me on occassions. They had no sense of humor

One of my evil supergroups is an assassination group called The Three Ninja.

They are led by The Grey Ninja - A ninja spirit able to possess normals completely and supers not so completely. Able to manifest spirit ninja equipment which is deadly to almost anyone since it targets souls not bodies.

The Black Ninja - Japanese demon spirit controls darkness and shadows as well as mystical ninja abilities.

White Ninja - Japanese Vampire with a multitude of oriental vampiric abilities not subject to the limitations of western vampires but still limited by japanese mythos limitations.

All of them very civilized and followers of a strict code of honor. They only take jobs that they deem as neccessary and that would be challenging to them. They have never been accepted a job to kill a superhero although supers have frequently get in their way for a time during jobs usually. So far only foiled completely once.

Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

They're not entirely original, but back in the olden times, I came up with a team of villains who backed up Dragon Master called the Dragon Legion. They included Green Dragon, as well as Blue, White, and Red Dragons.

Black Dragon was a PC of mine, and they were his primary Hunted.

Another team from that era were the Rooks, a pair of supersiblings gifted with the power of ultimate invulnerability. Besides that they were obnoxiouls bratty and bored rich kids with a family that seemed to spend an enormous amonut of time pulling the twins butts out of jail.

They were about as hard to hurt as I could make them. Being immune to most any antic they could think over, they spent a lot of time pissing off the PCs with one stunt after another. They were not truly evil or bad, they just were looking for anything that could make them experience sensation.

They were eventually brought over to the side of Good during an alien invasion called the Tellan Invasion. They eventually got a taste of pain during the event, decided they didn't like it and reformed themselves into helpful folk.

All the cool themes have been taken' date=' construction, cards, tarot, chess...I mean what's left the Four Food Groups? Let me ponder for a bit.[/quote']

I remember a guy back on Red October who mentioned a group of villains he called The Appliance Alliance who were all based on things you'd find in your kitchen.

Hmmm...perhaps a group based on the properties of the Mohs Hardness Scale?

Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

One of my favourite theme teams was the Party Against Normal Taboos & Orthodoxy (PANTO).

They were brought together as a sort of situationist-anarchist prank by albino former rock star Steve Pilgrim (aka Snow White), to pull off pantomime-themed crimes against the state - scattering stolen bullion all over the streets of London, for example. Their fatal flaw was that he'd chosen his associates to fit the theme, rather than for their political sympathies, and few if any of the other villains shared Pilgrim's airy-fairy ideas: they were just in it for the money.

Cinderella was a mutant pyrokinetic.

The Ugly Sisters were a duo of unpowered bank robbers, hardened thugs who committed their crimes in drag so no-one would recognise them.

The Seven Dwarfs were a midget acrobatic team who'd turned to cat-burglary when their circus went bust.

Alladin was a scientist who'd invented a "solid-light" hologram/forcefield projector.

Puss in Boots had jetboots and a cat mask.

After a night of thinking about about other teams in my past campaign (while staying up with my newborn daughter:D ) I remembered that Pounder of MAMA was preceded by a Jason or Friday the 13th clonenamed Jason.

Another group was led by a culture poser named Dandy Lion. He (and his devoted followers) thought he was the king of fashion and culture...they were wrong. The players grew to despise the character since his primary attack was an powerful PRE Drain follwed by a powerful PRE Attack. Too many macho types were made to flee in abject terror from him. It got to be that the offended heroes would seek out Dandy Lion just to beat him up.

A few of the "highlights" of his career were the Nudity Bomb (with apologizes to Get Smart and anyone who saw that film), His attempt to become the Emperor of Fashion by kidnapping the heads of the Couture Houses of France and Italy (but not Germany or Britain since everyone knows they have no sense of fashion), remotely controlled clothing that made people do as he demanded, and a failed attempt to become the costume designer to the superhero world (during a breif stint of being reformed).

Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

In my campaign I have Force 10 (In meteorological terms Force 10 is a strong gale force wind (60 knots/111 kph); and their team logo is the nautical signal flag which represents a gale force wind), an all female group (Female teams seem to be doing rather well in this thread!). While not strictly feminists, all of the members come from nations or cultures which to some extent oppress and/or hold down women.

Jokyoshi ("Sweetheart"): Japanese wheel-chair-bound mentalist and computer/cybernetics whiz; the team's leader. About equal to Mentalla in power.

Plasma: White-hot EB with a very nasty Killing Damage Shield; and so bright you need 5+ points of Flash Defense to even look at her (bought as Darkness 1 Hex Area). She's the team's financier; being worth hundreds of millions of pounds sterling (She's a British noblewoman). She's also Jokyoshi's lover.

Scarab: Egyptian powered armor (big 4-meter tall vehicle-like armor; not a bodysuit). She's a brilliant engineer and cybernetics expert. The jet black Scarab armor can also be remote controlled, and is heavily armed and armored.

l'Lynx: 1000 year old Mayan sorceress; she's a former acolyte/Jaguar Woman of our campaign's megavillain, the Emerald Mage, and hates him bitterly. She typically dresses in a Goth/black leather style with numerous body piercings and is prone to very revealing outfits. The only member of Force 10 who doesn't have some level of Code vs Killing.

Spørgsmål ("Question"): Icelandic shapeshifter; she's a former Communist spy from the Cold War. While she literally can imitate anything, she will never imitate a man. She's the only bona fide "man hater" on the team.

Jetstream: Force 10's newest member. A brilliant Mexican aeronautics engineer and pilot who built one of the world's most sophisticated winged battlesuits; she's frighteningly agile in the air and prefers to fight with Passing Strike or Flying Throw if she's not using her missiles or autocannon, although her wings also have razor-sharp leading edges. Her supersonic-capable armor is equipped with full stealth capabilities; including against visible detection.

Persistent rumors of a 7th Force 10 member remain unconfirmed. :sneaky:

Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

Me and a buddy of mine had come up with competeing villian groups in which all the villian's names were based song titles. Mine was called the MUSIC MEN. Here is the roster as follows....

Major Tom and Captain Fantastick. They're the leaders of the group. They are twins whose crimes are based on song lyrics and are powerful egoists as well as major league psychotictic.

they are aided and abetted by....

Black Dog. The team's main brick who turns into a large werewolf type creature.

Highway Star. the team's main speedster.

Foxy Lady. A superhumanly agile woman with several martial arts skills.

White Rabbit. A powerful Empath with drug issues.

Mr. Tinkertrain. A dimensional shifter with a thing for young girls as mear toys.

Magic Man. A psycho with a variable magic pool.

Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

I've done the music thing...

Queen of Spades: Genius inventor, crime lord. Ruled a tiny island nation.

Mr. Roboto: Her robot bodyguard

Witchwolf: A mage/lycanthrope

Homewrecker: Brick/Mentalist seduction specialist

Fallen Angel: Evil Mary Marvel Clone

Grand Illusion: Reality control on a local scale. Very powerful, no initiative and barely the intelligence to use his abilities. Needed his Queen to order him inorder to be effective.

Team was powerful, but patience was never the Queen's strong suit. She consistantly grasped for too much too soon and was usually left with nothing.

I know Mr Roboto and Grand Illusion are Styx songs and Fallen Angel is a Poison song. I don't recognize the others.

BTW. One of my players in the GDI campaign I run is named Driver 8(and it's a second version). Plus, he has a villiain group called the Dream Police.

Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative!

Hey Everyone!

Great groups so far, so I hope nobody minds if I lift a few for my own campaign? :) There's no need to stop now, so since everyone has been so generous, it's time I chipped in again!

Junkyard Dogs

This was a band who used to practice in a junkyard where (unknown to anyone) there was radioactive and biological wastes. While playing a particularly rippin' set, some of the containers broke open, exposing the group. The net result was that all of the group got super powers (and considerably more talented) and became a national sensation.

The dark side is that all of the members now considered themselves outcasts, having lived among the poor and needy, and decided to "help" them by committing Robin-Hood-styled crimes and engaging in "socially conscious" acts of sabotage and rebellion. Among their fan base, the band members are heroes, but most people don't know that they have super powers. They can be played as either misguided youth or manipulative masters of their own destinies, depending on your particular campaign's theme or mood.

Current Membership:

Juryrigger -- A female take on Dr. Heller from Mystery Men who uses an array of weapons and gadgets which are unique takes on existing technology. Her only superpower, aside from having slightly superhuman reflexes and dexterity, is her super-intelligence. She is the mastermind of the group while Lightshow (the character with the most Presence) is its leader.

Lightshow -- A male take on Marvel's Dazzler character who can manifest light from sound energy. Not only could he create blinding flashes and photonic blasts of power, he could also create images which, when combined with his great Presence, could influence large audiences. However, like the Marvel character, this power would only last as long as the beat went on, so he usually carried a high-powered boombox (built by Juryrigger) on his person for his capers.

Roadie -- A male brawler who can duplicate himself into five people who are highly skilled at making coordinated attacks and have mind links with the other duplicates. I described him as being extensively tattooed and pierced, and when he seperates, the tatoos become warped and twisted while the piercings move to unusual places on the duplicates.

Scrapyard -- A male brick who has mounted pieces of metal into his skin to form a crude (but effective) form of armor. As with the others, everyone thinks it is just a costume job with a bunch of stage tricks to simulate his great strength.

Scratch -- A female cat-person (everyone just thinks it's a make-up and costume job) with martial arts, incredible reflexes and various cat-like abilities, including a set of claws.

Hopefully, this band isn't too similar to Roadkill, but that was my take on the supervillains as a music group. Keep those ideas rolling in!

I also had an all energy using group based around waves like Light, Sound, Alpha, Beta, Gamma etc. They all had the same blue uniform.

I later added Gravity, Dark and Delta. The boss was Dr Spectrum who had a black costume with the colours of the rainbow down it. The group was Wavelength.

Spoofed by Waveylength with such members as Permanent Wave and Goodbye Wave.

Speaking of the music thing, if memory serve me right (which usually means I'm wrong) didn't Mark Gruenwald make a team of super powered humans all based on Jethro Tull songs. I believe they appeared in DP7. The only names I remember were Locomotive Breath and Aqualung. Does any body remember the rest? Or if I'm completely making this up.

...Mine was called the MUSIC MEN...

Had a similar group myself, called The Eminance Front. Led by Baba O'Reilly, the Pinball Wizard, a magnetically powered hippie who preached peace and love to disenfranchised youth, but really just wanted to get rich. The Front Consisted Of:

Street Fighting Man: Fought w/Improvised Weapons

Sugar Magnolia: Pheromonal Mind Control (from the lyric 'she is everything delightful')

Cinnamon Girl: Crimson Ionic Energy Brick ala Wonder Man

Nowhere Man: Living Black Hole

There were a couple of more that escape me...
