Star Trek had little more than a cult following during its initial run. Most TV viewers wouldn't have recognized Spock. The cameos appear to have been reserved for celebrities with name recognition and/or clout. The exception being Green Hornet and Kato, whose TV series was being produced by the same studio and network.

Well, I do remember--just barely--Nimoy's appearance as Spock on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In.  He was partially in costume but completely in makeup and in character, saying things like, "If Zsa-Zsa Gabor married Minnehaha, she'd be Zsa-Zsa Haha."

 

If he was good enough for Laugh-In, he's good enough for Batman.

Was that real alcohol? On one hand, I suspect so (I doubt they could have arranged faux liquor at the locations where they filmed). On the other hand, that's a pretty impressive night of carousing, causing me to wonder how they managed it without passing out,
