bigdamnhero
Re: How to Overthrow the Alien Overlords: Reboot [attempting to catch up after spending the weekend at Genghis Con] What if most of the alien population can't stand living in hollowed out asteroids and spacehabs' date=' and needs a big solid planet under their feet and a big deep atmosphere over their heads?[/quote'] I think that's entirely plausible. Personally, I think that would most likely be true for humanity as well. As a species we are used to living on planets and seeing the sky over our heads; anything else would feel "abnormal" to most people, I suspect. Even just working underground for prolonged periods has been known to have (mostly minor) psychological/social effects on people. Now, it's possible that could change over a generations-long voyage, so that by the time they get here the current generation thinks living on a planet is abnormal. But it's also possible it might not change. So personally I would have no trouble accepting either hypothosis as a game premise. The one thing I never like about these discussions is the use of the word "would" when what we're doing is speculating. I know it's largely a personal twitch on my part' date=' but to me saying that unknown hypothetical aliens "would" or "would not" do something is way too high on the certainty scale.[/quote'] Fair point. My babelfish usually translates such statements into "Here's what I think they might or might not do..."
nexus
Re: How to Overthrow the Alien Overlords: Reboot I loved this original thread, before it got all NGD. Can we start again? I like the idea of multiple species that have prejudices against each other that the humans can exploit. In my version, the Psychic race is most sympathetic to the Earthlings, and is working to subvert the Brute race. The Green race sees the others as guinea pigs in their next medical experiment, and the Honorable race sees the others as barbarians with useful skills. What other weaknesses would the aliens have to exploit? The Brute race could have a simple, direct warrior code that limits their tactical options to fairly direct methods and leaves them open to "terrorist" tactics and subverstion. Perhaps they seem the Pychics and Greens as weak and dishonorable so are generally suspcious of their motives. The Greens might come to think of humans as simple lab animals and underestimate them
