Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? The Flood. Okay, some caveats. First, the Flood took months for me to puzzle through, both from board questions, finding physical time, and the general depth of the threat. Listed below is the Infection Form - the cute cuddly barbed thing that slices into your CNS and puts you down almost instantly, kills you, then uses your body to create a new Flood Form - either Combat or Carrier, depending. The Flood learn what their hosts know - they have true genetic memory replication, i.e., they eat your brain. For this I included a crazy Mimic Pool VPP on the summoned forms, not the infection form. The Infection Form is the 'driver,' from what I understand - in fact, the Flood itself seems to be a super-sentient cooperating organism capable of adapting itself, and later adapting its own environment (as discussed on Level Six, "Library" of HALO 1.) Flood Infection Form 0 STR: +0 +12 DEX: +4 +0 CON: 10 -10 BODY: -5 +05 INT: +5 +10 EGO: +5 -5 PRE: 5 -5 COM: 0 (yes, zero) Running: 8" (+4) Leaping: 6" Central Nervous System Assault: The Flood Infection Form uses its barbs to punch into the body of any living creature, slice into its central nervous system, and shut it down, immobilizing the target completely, like a hacker in a computer. Once complete, the Flood will begin the process of cutting through all major functions, killing & infecting the target with its DNA sequences, and transforming the corpse into a new Flood Form. Once the body is transformed into a Flood Form, the Infection Form remains as the "Driver" to control the corpse's movements. Even if the Infection Form - which resides in the chest - is destroyed, the entire Combat Form must be destroyed else another Infection Form take control and "reanimate" the body. Piercing Barbs: HKA 1d6, Continuous (+1), Penetrating (+1/2), (37 Active Points); No Knockback (-1/4) (total cost: 27 points) plus 20d6 Suppress STUN, NND (+1, defense is having a non-standard nervous system, or natural immunity such as Boren's Syndrome), Continuous (+1), Reduced Endurance (0 END, +1/2) (350 Active Points); Linked (-1/2), Must do BODY (-1/2), No Range (-1/2), Restrainable (-1/2), Extra Time (One Phase, -3/4) (total cost: 93 points). Total cost: 120 points. DNA Invasion: Summon 300 point Flood Form, Any Flood Corpse can Support (+1/4), Slavishly Devoted (+1), (135 Active Points); Extra Time (5 minutes; -2), Requires Recently Infected Host (deceased) (-1/2), Form Summoned Depends on Body Type (-1/2, humans cannot be Elite Combat Forms, and so on - this replaces the usual +1/4 advantage "Any Type"). Total cost: 34 points Automaton: The Flood is capable of surviving in any environment, including deep space & vacuum. As far as anyone knows, only direct damage harms the flood. They cannot be stunned in any form, and are immune to the movement stunning effect of the Plasma Rifle.
Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? The above is my first pass - I have yet to get Hero Designer so I have to create all the templates the long way, by hand. There are some details missing (REC, END, etc.) which I'll cover later - I wanted to nail down the basic abilities. I think I did so - now I can focus on creating the Combat Forms (human & elite) and the Carrier Form (grunts, mangled corpses, etc.) Of course, all of those stats are derived, so you can simply take the points I've moved already and plug them into the formula until you get the correct answers. Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? Combat Form Template Concept: That I'll steal directly from d20, and create a "Template" to overlay on any turned creature - whether human or covenant, the 'Combat Form' will stack its abilities on top of the host body. Mental Stats are based on the Infection Form, the 'driver.' The Summoned Flood are zombie automatons - they have no STUN, total Life Support, etc. I'm currently under the impression that Flood Combat Forms have no sentience of their own - they can't operate without an Infection Form at the helm. However. The corpse carries all of the knowledge/powers/abilities - the Infection Form can't use anything that the body didn't have originally. My idea for the Gravemind comes directly from the design shown in Halo Graphic Novel. The Flood will - in the manner of insects - 'create' a Gravemind if one is not already present (as it is on Installation 07/HALO 2). So the Gravemind then picks up the ability to 'absorb knowledge.' Trick is, I don't know if I make that some sort of crazy-stupid-huge VPP or what. So I have to ask the locals how to do "AMAZO" or similar concepts. Combat Template STR: +5 DEX: +4 BODY: +2 Stat Adjustments: 21 points Flood Consumption: Variable Power Pool, 100 points; Only to mimic skills & abilities (-1), Cannot Exceed Victim's Knowledge (-1/2) (120 Active Points) Total Cost: 141 points Please note this is a work in progress - I'm going to include more powers on the infection form and then tailor the combat forms appropriately, but since I'm doing all of my 'thinking' on the boards, it makes for interesting reading (I hope) to see where I'm going and how I'm getting there. Under this model, the Infection Form is doing the work, the communication, etc. - the combat forms are just machines converted from fallen opponents for the purpose of creating new food. Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? The Longsword is the main UNSC fighter bomber. It is capable of functioning in space and its engines are capable of reaching the Earth's and Installation 4's escape velocity. The Master Chief and Cortana use a Longsword to escape the destruction of Installation 04. Its main weapons are 110mm rotary cannons for dogfighting in space. This versatile fighter can be armed with an assortment of secondary weapons including mines, ASGM-10 Missiles, bombs, and even Shiva nuclear-tipped Missiles. The Longsword is usually deployed against Seraph Fighters. It also can escort Pelicans as they head for the surface of the planet. Also it can be used as a bomber and could be used for airstrikes. Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? I apologize to those who are used to even vaguely regular updates. I feel like a bad web comic artist, not even updating the thread I took over, but I have been horribly distracted (Money, work, running my own game, High Holy Days, the list goes on). So, today, I'm going to get some updates done. Here's the first one. Introduced in Halo 2 The Spectre is a agile ground attack vehicle used for patrols and engagements. The Spectre has a Plasma Turret mounted on the rear' date=' and has room on the sides for two passengers to ride along for increased anti-infantry capacity. It maneuvers more slowly than it's lighter counterpart, the Ghost, but it still uses anti-gravity pods to hover and strafe, allowing for a smooth ride over all terrains. Unlike other vehicles, the Spectre can boost without losing weapons power.[/quote'] Thia's Notes: I still don't quite have the gist of how to balance out the 'engine' so I'm guessing on how effective it needs to be - hopefully the one I've put in is enough to run everything all the time, which is what it's supposed to do. Worst case scenario, I can just add 'Costs 0 END (+1/2) to the appropriate group, but meh. 5 Size; DCV -3, KB -5 (25 points) 40 STR; (5 points) 14 DEX; OCV 5/DCV 5 (12 points) 17 BODY; (2 points) 7 DEF; 15 Active Points; Limited Defense (Does not protect occupants from sides or rear, -1/2), (10 points) 4 SPD; (16 points) Total Vehicle Stats: 70 points 35 Ion Drive: 80 END, 80 REC; OIF Immobile (-1 1/2) 45 Anti-Gravity Hover Vehicle: Flight 20", x4 Noncombat, Sideways Manueverability (+1/2); Must Remain Within 4" of a Surface (-1/2) 18 Plasma Thruster: Flight +20"; Cannot Turn (-1/2), Cannot Move Backwards (-1/4), Only to Move in a Straight Line (-1/2) -12 Hover Only: Running -6" -2 Hover Only: Swimming -2" 3 Covenant BattleNet: Radio Trasmission/Reception, OIF Bulky (-1 1/2), Military Frequencies Only (-1) Weapon Systems 45 Covenant Plasma Turret: 10d6 EB, Autofire 10 (+1); OIF Bulky (-1), STR Minimum 17 (STR does not add to damage, -1), Beam (-1/4), Real Weapon (-1/4), Uses Operator's OCV (-1/4), Turret Mounting Required (-1/4) (25 points) plus Defensive Barrier (as Entangle) (5 BODY/5 DEF, 1/2" wide, 1" high (SER), 50 Active Points; Only to Form Barriers (-1), No Range (Always forms around turret, always facing forward, -1/2) (20 points) Skills 6 Surprisingly Agile: +3 with ground movement Total abilities & equipment cost: 204; Total Vehicle Cost: 274 Value Disadvantages: Distinctive Features, Covenant Combat Vehicle (Not concealable, noticeable & recognizable, -25) Total disadvantages: 25 Total cost:249/5 = 50 points. Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? Thread'surrection. I've been away from this project for far too long. Now I have Hero Designer v3. As soon as I figure out how it FRACKING WORKS I'll be fine tuning and reposting. A lot of these builds I did off of the top of my head, so there'll be a lot of revision as I try and get them closer to "game reality" and "HERO reality." Today I'm trying to figure out how to just build a weapon (just the weapon) in HERO Designer. I'm starting with everyone's favorite, the MA5B Assault Rifle. Be advised, the weapon shown in HALO 3 is actually the MA5C (No Name Released). It's a hybrid of the MA5B and the BR-55 Battle Rifle. PBA: I'm not going to stat any theoretical H3 weapons until I've played through and beaten the game, and then spent time in Multiplayer. Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? Can't figure out how to do this correctly in Hero Designer. Should I build it as Equipment? as a Power? And, how do I build a pair of powers together, f'rinstance, "MA5B + Flash Light." Any takers? EDIT: I figured it out -- you actually have to begin the build in HD as "Compound Power." This was throwing me off very badly, since when I clicked, I was always creating - tada - a new power. I should be able to port over the bulk of the gear now. Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? Hrm. Which reminds me. I'm doing a spell conversion project at the moment, but will return to this as soon as I'm done there (and post it all in Hero Designer v3). Thia Halmades
Re: HALO Hero? On my to-do list is to revisit the Flood; I think I'm going to modify them and build them as a Multiform, rather than a summon, and the multiform will pick up some unique limitations, i.e., "must be a transformed target." I'm going to go struggle with this for a while.

I haven't found a way that I like yet, and I really need to do that. I appreciate the compliment, though. It always seems to me that everyone has their own pet project; you asked the question, and I just took ownership of it from there. I always like the recognition, but I primarily did it because, well.
