Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

Hero Villain doesnt matter. Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign. Give a back story on each of them. What makes them part of the top 5?

Well, I would certainly have no problem coming up with 5, but I promised my GM that I would take a look at Hero Central, and I have observed before that the format for my campaign most resembles a PBeM style, if for live table-top play, so I want to keep a few secrets in reserve, in case I can begin running it through that channel. The main problem is that my most interested player HATES the HERO system. But, he's away for college most of the year, so maybe I can use the conversions transparently. So, for now, you get the TWO most powerful NPC's in my campaign.

The Guardian Of Neutrality (aka Guardian of Humanity]

(note that none of this has yet been converted to the HERO system!)

Once a hero (or perhaps a villain; nobody really knows anymore, or if they do remember, they're not telling) who slew the opposition in some conflict of ideals, between how people lived their lives and how others felt they should, he found that no good deed ever goes unpunished: leading the people down his own dark path, he discovered an unavoidable truth.

In the end, his ideal just plain, flat-out didn't work.

Too late, he sought alternatives. Realizing that the foe he'd vanquished was the single largest repository of lore on the ideal that could save them all, and had been until he killed that person, he renounced his former morality and moved on.

But no simple switch of sides, this. He had a larger goal this time: the preservation of humanity itself, that he might never again have to watch a civilization fall through the inspiring actions of some hero or villains. Because, really, simply being a hero struggling to overthrow the tyrant's stranglehold on the people, or a villain trying to introduce some chaos to a lawful populace, guaranteed nothing. Even if the system did work for a while, the gradual shifting of humanity would ensure that a new system would be needed - and it would be costly to work out such a system from scratch. Such was the fate that befell he himself, when, in the end, he learned that no single system lives forever.

Now, he protects heroes and villains alike, ensuring that they will always be around in case they're needed. You ever wonder why the villains keep the hero alive for so long, sometimes gloating about their plans? The heroes are the good guys, they're supposed to catch the bad guys and send them to jail, but the villains? It's because they're terrified of the friggin' Guardian.

Dedicated to the preservation of humanity, the Guardian has lived a long, long time. His main function is to keep people alive - the PC's will have to learn, possibly the hard way, hopefully through the shocked and frightened reactions of NPC's when they propose or attempt killing someone, that they need to avoid killing their enemies. Whenever there is a clash of ideals, the Guardian can be found, and some swear that he can be in more than one place at once.

He calls himself the Guardian of Neutrality, but noone knows why (though many believe it is because he has forsworn both good and evil), so some call him the Guardian of Humanity. In truth, his study of philosophy (both ethics and metaphysics) has led him to believe that the universal balance of good and evil is shifting; the problem is that, hero and villain alike, most people think of themselves as the good guy. The balance of intent is shifting. He would take up the task of restoring this balance himself, but he knows that he is unsuited for it; since he is aware of the good that would be done by such a deed, his intent would ultimately be good. This is the problem which plagues most other villains who have become aware of how evil they are: even in accepting that status, they still do not hold it as their sole purpose, leaving them no different than a vigilante who believes that their end justifies the means. So the Guardian searches for a suitable disciple, one who can comprehend the nature of evil, yet nonetheless embrace it and commit to following it with all their heart, for no ulterior motives, just the love of evil itself.

The Avatar Of Story

"This world is based on rules. Some of them can be bent. Others can be broken."

(Morpheus, "The Matrix")

"Stability, power, freedom. Pick any two."

(the underlying metaphysics of my campaign)

Initially, there was chaos. But, through sheer chance, eventually there was some repetition, giving rise to patterns. Once patterns arose out of chaos, they gained strength. It became easier to channel energy through established patterns, and more difficult to work against them. These patterns were only (on the level) of existence. The fundamental laws of reality.

[some of you may remember Carl Sagan proposing something similar along astronomical lines. If you have sources, I'd appreciate hearing where to look; I've heard the comparison made, but all I've got to go on is myself here.]

Some (derivative) patterns became based on other patterns, relying on those root patterns for their very existence. In the meantime, the first patterns, the ones that had been self-sustaining, were gaining in power. Patterns entwined and formed even higher levels, eventually producing humans, but after combining so many patterns, much power had been lost.

Anyone can still break the established laws, but only if they have enough power.

Those based on many patterns enjoy an increasing freedom of Choice - always approaching "Free Will", and the several patterns they incorporate form a broad foundation; but they're too far away from Chaos to utilize any single pattern. Those embodying a single pattern are backed by the entire strength of that pattern, making them proportionately stable, and their power scales with the intensity of their pattern - but they are trapped by the very nature which defines them. Lastly, the Primal Chaos which underlies all reality swirls in ultimate freedom, and practically IS power, but lacks any stability - it cannot be predicted, it has no pattern.

The Avatar Of Story is the personification of the pattern that has been building ever since the first conscious being decided to tell a story. Humanity, like other high-order pattern forms, incorporates the Pattern of Duplication: there can be more than one of them. Humans have been telling each other stories for a long, long time, and the Avatar of Story has become pretty powerful as a result. It exists for one reason only: to make sure that the best possible story is told. It is one of the forces supporting The Guardian Of Neutrality; for, after all, if someone is killed they can't tell stories anymore, and theirs ends. It is also the primary force keeping the campaign moving forward ;)

It is possible (inevitable) for some of the PC's to begin moving away from humanity. It is, in fact, necessary, by the metaphysical laws of that universe, to shed some of your patterns in order to move closer to Chaos and gain power. Thankfully, humans are built out of a ridiculous number of patterns, so there's plenty of room for variance in power without becoming obviously inhuman.

The idea, though, is that unusual abilities are gained simply by strengthening the appropriate patterns. High ratings in Speed enable the character to bypass such little quirks of physics as, oh, tangible matter. The character blurs when moving, and such petty little details as physical obstructions are no longer a concern.

The whole idea is, when a pattern is strong, when a person has enough powers, they can ignore other patterns.

Some laws can be bent. Others can be broken.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

Interesting thread! I'm assuming we're talking about "Power" as more than just Character Point Totals, and that Power also includes things like Position, influence, and resources available to the character (which in the case of villains, may or may not be represented on the character sheet.) There are many MANY more powerful beings in the campaign that The Defenders haven't run into yet, and I don't want to spoil anything, so limiting it to KNOWN (either by the PCs or the Players) beings in The Defenders Universe:

1.) Analogous - Master of Reality. Analogous is a chaotic alien entity of as-of-yet unknown origins. He has the ability to seemingly effortlessly reshape the very fabric of reality to whatever suits him. In their only encounter with this mysterious being so far, The Defenders were barely able to avert a Pan-Dimensional Cataclysm he had masterminded.

2.) Time Master - Arguably the most powerful Metahuman in existence. Time Master was once Dr. Timothy Telemachus, a highly reknowned temporal research scientist who made the greatest scientific breakthrough of the twenty-first century when he created the "Telemachus Tunnel," a portal through the space-time continuoum allowing a person to freely walk to one point in time and back again. This breakthrough was followed by the "Telemachus Cube," a more portable version of his technology that allowed the user to create a time-space portal wherever he or she was, allowing for "jumping" from one time to another.

After a horrible accident (for which Telemachus blamed The Defenders) took the life of his beloved wife, Telemachus lost his desire to use science to help mankind and used his abilities for revenge. In their last encounter with the Time Master, as Telemachus christened himself after his villainous rebirth, The Defenders stopped him and his alliance of other hired supervillains from bringing a devastating power from the future back into our time. As Time Master was "Cubing" away, he was hit by one of Nighthawk's EMP Pulse Grenades. The Cube distorted around him, horribly misshaping Time Master as it collapsed upon itself and then he had disappeared. The Defenders have not seen Time Master since.

3.)Dr. Destroyer - Same as in CKC. His superior technology and nearly limitless resources make him easily Earth's (in our time and dimension) most powerful single permanent resident. In their ONLY encounter with one of Dr. Destroyer's plots so far, The Defenders managed to escape a series of Deathtraps he had designed to kill them, only to come face to face with the Dr. himself - or so they thought, until the Destroyer-Bot self-destructed, critically injuring two team members and nearly killing their government liason who had been taken hostage by Destroyer.

4.)Fantastic-Man - Finally! Score one for the good guys!! As the leader of the planet's most powerful, respected, and famous superteam, The Defenders, Fantastic-Man towers above all other superheroes in terms of influence and stature. He also has good relationships with many other powerful high-profile organizations like PRIMUS and UNTIL, and could easily pool their resources together with those of The Defenders if the situation was dire enough to warrant it. Nigh-indestructibility and a really mean punch don't hurt either.

5.) The Supreme Serpent - Leader of the VIPER organization, (whose existence, while not known to the PCs IS known to the players, so I put him on the list.) His resources seem to know no limits, as there never seems to be any shortage of agents or weaponry for VIPER. Though they have yet to come face to face with the Supreme Serpent to date, in their encounters with VIPER so far, the PCs uncovered and stopped a VIPER plot to establish a new nest in Paragon City, aided a prominent VIPER research scientist in his defection from the organzation, shut down a VIPER nest disguised as a tourist resort, averted a horrible plague unleashed during VIPER's thankfully short-lived war with COIL, and most recently unsuccessfully attempted to thwart the theft of a next-generation ultra-high yield electromagnet prototype.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

1) Ran -- Living embodiment of esper/psychokinetic power. Totals in at around 950+ points with a 200 point VPP of "esper" powers.

2) Shion Nys, aka "The Empress" -- World's most power, stable, esper. 850+ points. Huge multi-power, armor, pistol, sword, martial arts, the works.

3) Alan (last name unknown) -- World's second most powerful, stable, esper. No character sheet, but probably in the 800 point range.

4) Unknown

5) Unknown

Somewhere in the top 10 is Raven, an esper PC who's become very powerful.

There's also a few street samurai, cyborgs, and hardsuit pilots who are in the 450-550 point range.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

1) Charon. Death. Clocks in at 2022 points, but without any real attempt to squeeze the points. But, well, he's Death. He made a couple appearances in the first champions, and only cosmic game I've run. The 2nd time, it was revealed that he had been captured by someone who would take his mantle and become the Overlord of the Netherworld. The PCs had to save him.

2) The Crimson Emperor. From the same game as above. A hybrid of Kang and Darkseid. No character sheet, but not as much 'influence' as the big guy above. He, after all, only has a hundred thousand universes under his command, give or take.

3) Dr. Martini. No superpowers. Just a guy with a plan. Renown philanthropist, billionaire, scientist. Former governer of California. 300 point VPP of Death Traps, Doomsday Devices, and Villainous Mayhem. But due to his status of 'Just a guy' he has made appearances in multiple campaigns of various levels.

4) Master Wo. Mystic hero. One of the elders of the Watchers of the Void. Only about a thousand years old, but doesn't look a day over 100. Has a staged multiform to go all Yoda on someone, up through Dragonball Z level stuff. Luckily it never got up there in the course of the game.

5) Mephistopheles. The devil. Satan. Yeah, him. Also no real writeup, and not allowed to directly interfere _that_ much... but when the PCs have to go to his domain to retrieve the soul of an innocent, he got involved. Diplomatically.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

Paragon. A test pilot with a high constitution, he became a hero for the allies in WWII, flying into combat with his spectacular and seemingly invincible suit of armor; he was known to shift the tide of many conflicts. However, his suit's demands were so severe that it was slowly killing him. When his daughter was born he retired rather than have her grow up fatherless. His daughter later exhibited wings and became known as Aces High. She is currently missing and feared dead. PRIMUS and all other lawful parties still seek her wereabouts. Woe unto he who has caused her harm, for the suit will return when the truth is found out.

The Black Pope. Between 304 and 308ad supposedly there was no pope. It seems that This man, now nameless, was pope and sought to raise the power of the church by implanting spies in the governments of christandome. When Diocletian discovered this, he and conspirators had him excommunicated, all record of his reign has been removed from the records. When he died, he was burried in secrecy and his body entombed for hundreds of years in many places, moved often to avoid agents of the church who feared the dark magics that he had turned to in the name of God. Last slain by the New Sentinels, it is believed he somehow still walks the Earth.

Uncle Slam. Superman-style brick; While he's very powerful, it's not on the level of Superman, but for my world he fills that niche. No one knows whether Colonel Samuels was first or whether the iconic "Uncle Sam" was first; Most suspect the character on recuiting posters was modeled after him. There are sightings of him as far back as WW I.

Eldritch. Born in Arthurian England, he lost his wife to a group of demons called the Infinitum. A mage with little direction at that point, he sank into study of time travel with the intent of going back and saving her; But as ne might expect, he only f'd up the timeline. His innate time sense allows him to see the ramifications of his actions through time, so he can make proper decisions right now. With the many f-ups he's done in trying to recover his beloved, he's instead set himself to vengeance against the Infinitum. His skills are primarily time manipulation including such things as summoning other versions of himself from time to aid him if necessary. Like Marvel's Kang, there are many different versions of him showing up in the game.

Everyone else is tied for 5th ;)

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

Bodyjacker:

Have ever found yourself at your destination but you had no idea how you got there? If so, then you might have been a victim of the Bodyjacker. The Bodyjacker moves, seemingly, randomly from person to person, man or woman, stealing moments of time from a host’s body. Sometimes these possessions last weeks, other times only seconds. Usually no harm is done to the host body but there are some instances when the hosts have awoken to find themselves leaping from a building or standing in harms way. Pity the person who find they have made the Bodyjacker an enemy.

Interface:

This computer intellect was accidentally created in 1997 by Microware while doing artificial intelligence experiments. Interface immediately became self-aware and dispersed itself into the internet before its creators could seal the system. Over the last 8 years Interface has used its powers over computers to infiltrate almost every aspect of our daily lives. Interface's overall goals are unknown, but it is accumulating vast wealth and power around the world. Interface is very protective of its systems and is responsible for several programmer’s and hacker’s deaths.

Markath the Destroyer:

Long considered to be the "dark terror of the world" Markath is the most powerful practitioner of the dark arts alive today. There are many rumors surrounding Markath's origins, all of which are bathed in blood, which is what Markath has been trying to do to the earth ever since he was freed from his crystal prison in 1938. Markath's goal is to destroy all that is good and holy in the world and replace it with darkest bile. Markath has made pacts with demons and devils and many law enforcement organizations hunt for his unholy alter of terror.

O’Mega:

The extremely powerful ruler of the Vega star system, O’Mega has set his sights on the conquest of the galaxy. O’Mega made his presence know to humanity in the winter of 2002 when his advanced scouts arrived on Earth and began constructing a Star-Gate in the Nevada desert to quickly move troops and equipment between Vega and Earth. The US Military was unable to stop the construction but the noted scientist and superhero Dr. Questor was a able to erect a force field around the site to stop O’Mega's assault, unfortunately trapping himself and most of the Legion within the field in the process.

Psipreme:

A completely insane psionic who believes he is “God,” Psipreme enjoys toying with humanity and has been responsible for many atrocities over the last 10 years; atrocities such as the Jamerson Incident which resulted in the 5,000 residents of Jamerson, Idaho committing suicide in a giant Russian Roulette arena. Psipreme enjoys making people he encounters as insane as he is, especially those with meta-human powers. Psipreme has a vast army of superhuman slaves, including the iconic 1980s hero Victory.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

My game is Hellsing meets the Anita Blake Universe but here it goes.

1. The Mother of All Darkness. The original vampire, a being with a mystic connection to all lycanthropes as well as vampires. Very much a behind the scenes figure but powerful enough to frighten even members of the vampire council.

2. Alucard. I'm not even sure I'll use him yet. The ace of the Helsing Institute, almost unkillable, almost unstoppable. So much so I hesitate to use him because it could take away from the PC's.

3. Lt. Rip Van Winkle. The ace of the Millenium Empire. A vampire with a demonic edge to her powers and magic bullets that can shoot down fighter jets and rip through entire platoons at a time.

4. Paladin Alexander Anderson. The ace of the Vatican, a holy warrior and regenerator who specializes in destroying supernatural monsters with blessed bayonets. Arch rival of Alucard.

5. Mr. Oliver. The Earthshaker. The most powerful active member of the vampire council. A deceptively soft spoken, polite man who just happens to have a link with serpents and can bring down buildings with a wave of his hand.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

for my Love Child of the Marvel Universe campaign going on Now!

That's as pure a Marvel setting as my preconcieved notions allow ;)

1. PHOENIX (Rachel Summers, Britain, Excalibur)

2. NIMROD

3. HULK (Smarter, current Defenders)

4. DOC DOOM

5. IRON MAN (Tony Stark, Avengers, JLA vs. Avengers)

Other people in the Marv.Univ. are of course more powerful,

but these 5 above are running around loose.

And: Nova, Silver Surfer, Thanos, Galactus, Elders, Titans, Eternals, Celestials,

etc don't count because this list is "who spends their day-to-day time on Earth"

Sentry and Nefaria, and Kang and Ultron are all locked away for various reasons

and so they don't make this list either. Sentinel Robots are more powerful per se,

but their stupidity demotes them from this list

Remember, this is IMHO for the MU I GM.

From my Post Apoc Campaign...

Stonehenge: A brick worth nearly 900pts in a game where the characters are still 75/75pt normals... He's the most powerful of the 'survivors' -

The Ferryman: looking like the Grim Reaper/Charon, he the first of the 'survivors' - inherently desolid and can teleport anywhere on earth through the use of ley lines that now cross the globe. He can also teleport others.

others TBA...

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

Dr. Destroyer

Mechanon

Menton

Ba'al, a demon that was supposed to be summoned by sacrificing a beautiful lady in the chamber of the UN. Good Guys Inc saved the girl, but a male cultist fell on his sword, summoning Ba'al through him. As a result, the demon was hideously mutated and unable to reproduce. Ba'al later became the Millenium Bug, and traveled backwards through the previous Millenium, requiring the every hero in the last thousand years to travel to the year 1000 AD to defeat it. It was our Crisis on Infinite Earths, allowing us to reboot the characters in 5th Edition.

The Arcanes, Three women, Maiden, Matron, and Crone, who collectively share the role of Supreme Sorceress. They are an unbroken line of daughter mother and grandmother from the dawn of man. On the day the daughter gives birth, the grandmother dies, and the cycle continues. The current daughter is 40, and has put off conceiving out of misguided love for her grandmother. They were responsible, through their 1000 AD Counterparts, for summoning the heroes against the millenium Bug.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

Oi, this is a tough one for my current campaign, Ancient Aberrant. If you include the entire breadth of the setting ( time travel factors in heavily ), the only fairly clear ones are:

1. Apophis: the ultimate nemesis. Antiexistence incarnate, bent on either debasing the universe until it is naught but a mockery of its former state, or destroying it. His appearance is that of a walking hole in all that is, to stare into which invites nothing but despair and death beyond death. He was defeated by nothing less than probably the greatest alliance of gods ever to stand upon the Earth, and cost as collateral damage almost the entire world reduced to ruin.

2. The Oracle of Time: also known as An Ye, the Creepy Little Girl, and ( amongst time travellers ) "Ahhhh, run away!" Anthropamorphic personification of fate/time/destiny/the universe. Not exactly a villain, but seriously disliked by time travellers, as she tends to show up when they did something they oughtn't, with the purpose of undoing it, and them. Gets lower on this list because Apophis, if he ever fully broke his chains, could have destroyed the whole universe.

Below that, there's a bunch of Quantum 8 individuals scattered through various eras, and it becomes really murky who is stronger than who.

If you limit it to just our native time period, things are a *little* clearer.

1. Minos: First Speaker of Thera, cosmically powerful idealist, and all around general good guy. Think Silver Surfer in a toga, with less angst.

Below him you have probably the Champion of Ra, White Crane, the August Personage of Jade, and maybe Shango as peers a step below Minos in power. No real idea yet who is at the top or the bottom of that set, though.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

My "campaigns" are strictly on paper at the moment, but...

Proto-Champions Universe: This hooks together very early (preferably 1st edition) published characters into a simple but vaguely coherent universe.

Most powerful characters are:

1. Mechanon. Duh.

2. Dr Kirby Liu. ("Dr Lirby Koo") Head of VIPER, and mad scientist.

3. Green Dragon. Effectively the second in command of VIPER.

4. Major Martinez. While UNTIL is rather small in this setting, he can still call on some scary resources, and is pretty tough in his own right.

5. Probably some guy from Genocide or something.

The World's Greatest Superteam Universe: A much higher powered setting. This hooks together a bunch of semi-comedy characters. I haven't really designed many villains for this setting, so the most powerful characters I have are heroes.

Most powerful characters are:

1. Turan of Arcadia. Love Goddess and Flying Brick.

2. Marenna. Telepathic Mermaid.

3. Star the Wonder Horse. Flying Brick and occasional human.

4. Astroman. (Not the version posted on these boards recently.) Supermanoid Flying Brick.

5. Astrogirl. Flying Brick.

As a free behind the curtain peek for you, they're a bit more than a step below him in power, at least as he used to be, since... he is still recovering his strength after that coma. Are you /suuure/ he's still es mas macho? *ominous music*

Oh, and you could fit Baal and Finn in the Champion/White Crane/other peer group comfortably.

Annd.. do you even know that the Oracle of Time actually exists, or is she really just a manifestation of the subconscious guilt of various time travellers at the basic wrongness of what they do?

If the Oracle of Time is just a collective construct of various time travellers, that doesn't necessarily reduce her overall power, given even the known power level of known time travellers. After all, Wrinkle is just the collective belief that you shouldn't screw with time in Mage, too. :P

( and yeah, I know there's a pretty damn big gap between Q8 and everybody below, and yes Minos is still recovering, but I'm trying to *avoid* questions of "Which point in ____'s timeline" )

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

Diplomat. In terms of power, no he isn't the most powerful. But as head of the United Nations agent group and head of the UN's paranormal team the 17 he wields a great deal of influence. A member of the first 17 group in the 1960s, Diplomat spent the 70s being a police officer before revamping the 17 in 1980 and kickstarting the UN's agents in 1981. Diplomat is licenced to kill, has diplomatic immunity and can arrest anyone and hold anyone under the laws of another country. This has outraged Human Rights Groups but most governments don't raise too much of a fuss over it.

Uberman. The last surviving German paranormal from WW2. The Germans had them first and no-one else did. Uberman was tried at Nurembourg and sentenced to death. He survived hanging, shooting and poisoning so the Allies put him on the Prinz Eugen and blew him up with the Atomic Bomb. He survived and is more powerful than he was previously. He was located on a Pacific Island in the early 50s and returned to Spandau Prison where he remained. He was released in 1998 and joined the UN despite the reserations that the US had on having a war criminal enter the country. The A-Bomb made him the world's Superman.

The Animator. Again not the most powerful but what he can do. He can draw people from comics into the real world. Bad enough when you bring in Dr Doom or Juggernaut. But when he brought in the Predator and the Alien. Then brought in Ursa from Superman II. Now under arrest and kept in a state of hot sleep so that he cannot dream.

Ursa. The character Sarah Douglas played in Superman II brought to life. After managing to defeat her, no method yet has been found to neutralise her powers.

The Criminal Emporer. Head of the Criminal Empire, he deposed Augustus and took control. The Empire is similar to Viper in its world spanning operations and tech. Loyal agents can be rewarded by becoming paranormals despit their age, so the agents are unusual in their zeal.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

Been a while since I ran my Champions game, so it's hard to recall..

There was Ar'Nath, the Atlantean Wizard - the leader of a secret group of wizards; his spirit was unkillable. He was the big nemesis for the game. He possessed the body of an NPC teammate of the PCs for the bulk of his appearances.

There was Meme, party NPC and living MacGuffin. He's the one Ar'Nath wanted to possess, but was prevented from acquiring. Meme is bonded to an astral nexus - he can affect and is affected by all human thought. In game terms, he cannot fully exploit this ability himself (though Ar'Nath could've) - he can duplicate skills of anyone nearby*; he has a Danger Sense; and he can tell by looking at an individual whether that individual is human or not. (Handy for seeing shapeshifters and aliens.) *(Nearby meant a varying radius, depending on how 'crowded' the local astral plane was. In a city like New York, he had an effective one-mile range before the background noise was too much to sort through.) Ar'Nath planned to possess him and use him to ascend to the Presidency.

There was Paragon and Justicar - both aliens (Rigellian, I believe) modelled on J'onn J'onnz, Manhunter from Mars. The overall power level of the campaign was down a notch or two from four-color superheroics, so they were toned down a bit.

There was a telepath, the name escapes me now, powerful enough to hijack a person's body - he was the only telepath capable of that feat.

There was the White Russian, a dimensionally displaced Superman analogue, though similarly dialed back like Paragon and Justicar. (Ironically, the Russian had a vulnerability to heat based attacks, whereas Paragon and Justicar did not.)

Breakdown, the world's most powerful telekinetic, capable of disintegrating matter with his mind.

The enigmatic Mr. H is a definite top-five contender, though. A representative of a cross-dimensional corporation that took a passing interest in the campaign world. Never really got to show off his powers, but his direct inspiration was Hamilton of Wolfram and Hart from Angel, Season Five.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

1) Menton - He took the number 1 spot after the death of Dr. Destroyer in our Campaign world. He's not active currently but the heroes are always worried he might show up.

2) Protector - A mild-mannered medical doctor with big red bazooka boots. Did I mention he's capable of keeping an entire city same from harm? And he can heal almost anyone.

3) The Paragon - Once a hero of unarguable virtue, killed by the change in mankinds moral code. Now a force that drifts through the world, waiting for a champion to assist.

4) Valor I - former alien hero, who revealed his real plans. Take over the Earth and add it to his collection of worlds he rules.

5) Psi-key - A secret mentalist and CEO of Psi Co. USes his vast network of friends and wealth to help the world in times of need.

As far as who has been introduced I'd have to say.

The Doctor - Homegrown super genius/mentalist that we've only encountered a few times and admitedly have yet to fight but I just have a feeling...

Apacolypse

Thanos

Reed Richards

Dr. Strange

Pretty standard Marvel fare but it may change up after our GMs recent housecleaning.

No offense' date=' but unless you've seriously modified the characters in question, Apocalypse is *not* more powerful than either Thanos or Dr Strange.[/quote']

Heck I recall when he backed down from Sue Richards. No extenuating circumstances, no Macguffin in play, Sue just got up in Apocalypse's face and he skedaddled.

Are you talking about something that happend during Onslaught? If that is what you're talking he didn't back down he got pissed at her and decided to let the heroes fend for themselves. He spent the rest of the fight floating next to and chating with the Watcher. If your talking about something else then I must have missed it.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

I don't recall having ranked them first off. Secondly Apoc is amazingly powerful. Third it is the Ultimate universe without 'hippy' Thor. Fourth, have you ever tried to make Apocolypse? He's insanely expensive all things considered(Followers, bases, abilities beyond regular powers i.e. his skills with genetics, henchmen.). He is the most expensive character ever introduced in our campaign.

Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign.

And Thanos periodically has followers that can take on Galactus, entire fleets of starships, and tech that can do pretty much anything. Oh, and he can survive an extended fight with Odin, and considered detonating a megaton range nuke at his foot to be a literal nonissue, and has destroyed planets merely as a side effect of fighting on them.

Likewise, Dr Strange has a list of major artifacts a mile long, and has done everything from corking black holes, to blowing up planets, to ( at the very limit of his ability, and calling in all his resources ) fighting and defeating a being that had merged with his entire universe and was effectively a peer of Eternity.

Apocalypse. . . is not that powerful.
