Re: Order of the Stick

"A +8 racial bonus to listen skill checks" -

Even while yammering, yammering, yammering for an entire page? It's a wonder he ever hears anything if he won't shut up even for a moment! That's not a villainous monologue, that's a villainous filibuster!

Players yap and yap and yap about unrelated matters and expect to get all their skill bonuses. Why should NPC's get the short end of the stick?

Re: Order of the Stick

And that's fine. That's even expected. But Rich is fond of lampshading and subverting tropes. So the cynic in me is wondering if V's gesture will be pointless in the end.

Not so pointless as it kept me caring whether V lived or died. If he had opened that door and fled V was done IMO.

Re: Order of the Stick

O-Chul. The kind of Paladin 'anyone' would want to play.

Elan sings:"He's the Holy Warrior all the newbies want be like, get knocked down, get back up, Smiting Evil into the Afterlife...

We've been spending most our lives living in a Paladin's Paradise

But then Evil came and destroyed the Paladin's Paradise

O-Chul got paralyzed during the fall of the Paladin's Paradise

But he keeps fighting on to save the Paladin's Paradise

Re: Order of the Stick

Okay (and correct me here if I'm wrong; I'm not up on D&D 3.5), if the phylactery gets destroyed, it doesn't destroy Xykon, right? --- but it does mean if he does get 'killed' then it's for real, right? Would be interesting to see if that changes his attitude.

And my prediction is

O-Chul dies while trying and failing to destroy the phylactery, but his death inspires the Monster In The Shadows to complete the process, while revealing himself to the light for the first time...

... and the the Monster In The Shadows also dies.

Re: Order of the Stick

Ah, nothing like a good running gag with one of the PCs favorite spells.

Explosive Runes

Abjuration [Force]

Level: Sor/Wiz 3

Components: V, S

Casting Time: 1 standard action

Range: Touch

Target: One touched object weighing no more than 10 lb.

Duration: Permanent until discharged (D)

Saving Throw: See text

Spell Resistance: Yes

You trace these mystic runes upon a book, map, scroll, or similar object bearing written information. The runes detonate when read, dealing 6d6 points of force damage. Anyone next to the runes (close enough to read them) takes the full damage with no saving throw; any other creature within 10 feet of the runes is entitled to a Reflex save for half damage. The object on which the runes were written also takes full damage (no saving throw).

You and any characters you specifically instruct can read the protected writing without triggering the runes. Likewise, you can remove the runes whenever desired. Another creature can remove them with a successful dispel magic or erase spell, but attempting to dispel or erase the runes and failing to do so triggers the explosion.

Note: Magic traps such as explosive runes are hard to detect and disable. A rogue (only) can use the Search skill to find the runes and Disable Device to thwart them. The DC in each case is 25 + spell level, or 28 for explosive runes.

Re: Order of the Stick

Only problem is, a phylactery has 40 hit points. The bird should have just dropped it in and be done.

Unless each CLANG was the sound of the phylactery taking 1 damage.

If that does end up doing it, it will mean that it was (a) V's magic, without any tricks or enhancements, and (B) working as part of a team.
