Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

What a great team pic, Storn. I recognize everyone from Neil's Mavericks PBeM thread, except for the flyer with the huge cape and the tiny cloaked figure at the top. Would you please ID them for me. Now I really have a mental image of the characters when Neil posts more of their story.

A duo for the nutty, incomparable Death Tribble (love ya man!). First up, Col. Blinky!

Then a red (orange-y redhead) headed pharoah-ess...

I really like Colonel Blinky. I'm still umming are arring over the Pharoah but will have to make it another commission if I want it done again.

That's just weird. I mean something is really wrong with that...A redheaded Egyptian? Oh and the beholder with missiles is a little odd too.

The Pharoahess is a reincarnation of a Pharoah who 'just happens' to look like a well known red-headed actress. Who was in the X-Files. The gig being that the Pharoah sometimes swaps places with her actress look a-like much to the latters chagrin.

Too little experimentation with old favourites in D20 modern. Until I got involved.

Col. Blinky rules.

the targeting eye is pure genius man, pure awesome genius.

The targeting eye is based on the Apache helicoptor sight. Can't be on the main eye but on one of the others........

Holy Crap! A cyborg beholder??

...

Where do I get one of these things? :eg:

He's available for hire and his rates are very reasonable.

The armed Snail was cool' date=' but the Beholder is pure Genius, honest.[/quote']

Thanks. I do my best to please.

Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

Here is a project that is near and dear to me. It is the Mavericks. Which is one of the superteams in the RDU Champions game that I've been a part of for over 18 years. It still goes on in a PBeM and the players and GM got together to commission this.

The RDU has its own wiki, so if you are interested, check it out here. The link will take you directly to the Mavericks themselves... but poke around the massive campaign setting:

Nicely done

Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

That is beautiful. Are teh ones drawn as part of the sky' date=' dead characters?[/quote']

No, two are retired. Wildheart, the one with the leather jacket, is an NPC. She took it on the chin during the whole Powers Registration Act and went to jail in protest to fight it via legal means. She is out now. She ran the Mavericks for a time. She is just an NPC that I've always had a huge amount of affection for, heck, Vector dated her for a time.

Mind Shadow is the cowled, tiny figure up there, a PC whose player we've lost touch with over the years... but was instrumental in the creation of the Mavericks. As was my longstanding PC, Vector, in the beginning, but Vector now runs the Mars Terra Forming and Defense Project, he lives there.

One is dead. Arcsilver, the middle guy in the hazed out area, is dead.

That player, Ilan, is now playing Dr. Cairo, the dude with the crimson cowl and anhk action.

The new ice dude is Daedulus, played by Joe.

My character is Crusader, the dark grey shield bearer. The inheritor of both the Crusader moniker from the original, and the leadership position from Wild Heart.

Eric is Skinwalker

Bill is Impetus

MIRV in the background is a NPC, but was played at one point.

This is what what's-his-name from the Champions should look like. Uhm... y'know, birdbeak?

No. Similar though in look. But my Crusader predates 5th edition.

The original Crusader in the RDU comes from 4th edition... heck, even before 4th Edition.

My guy was originally Intercept. He was a Viper agent who went through Viper's version of Primus's Silver LIne program. His body could accept cybernetics, which makes his powersuit so responsive, it plugs directly into sockets all over John Spenser's body.

In the backstory, Yuri, creator of the suit and John became friends, realized that Viper was REALLY not the right place for them and they escaped, taking the prototype suit with them. In RDU, LA was destroyed, and John was part of the LA nest. (he was on mission at the time)...and so most of the papertrail and Viper tab keeping was wiped out along with LA. John and Yuri wandered the country, trying to redeem their former lives... eventually ending up in NYC.

The Original Crusader was also a Viper agent gone rogue and became a hero. Neil took note of this and put the two of us together and the orginal Crusader became Intercept's mentor and friend. Crusader getting older was a subplot for years before Intercept was even on the scene.... so it just seemed organic and logical that John take up the shield when Sam (aka original Crusader) wanted to retire.

The whole reason that Intercept/Crusader was created was I realized that I had no characters who wore a cape in RDU up to that point (Vector now has a cape-like B5 Membari inspired long surcoat)... and could I come up with a cape that was functional. Just a little challenge to myself. The Intercept armor was originally supposed to be a stealth, flying power suit... but John, with his cybernetics, the suit itself...was just too heavy to fly with the quiet wings...but with power assisting jumping, it can glide well, and quiet to boot. The cape can fold into a backpack...as John Spencer was a Viper HtH specialist and sometimes, in tight spaces, he tucks the cape in.

An odd sketch later, a quick Hero work up, and I had a character that was created on a whim, really became one of my favorite characters in play. I like his backstory, and eventually folding him into the Mavericks over time, really grounded the character.

Now, we are doing PBeM, reviving the Mavericks...and it is awesome!

Oh, I know who Crusader is, I was just saying I like your character design for your Crusader and think.... Nighthawk? Darkhawk? What ever his name is in the CU should look more like that.

Now for something a bit different. I am experimenting with using my time and tested brown sepia wash work (often used for interiors) and then doing a bit of spot "digital watercolor". I think it gets a neat vibe.

Half "environemental", but meant for a webpage backdrop for the Varda Chronicles. Link to Varda Chronicles here:

I doodled this in the same style as the Beddia backdrop above, a map for a friend for a Burning Wheel "Orc" campaign that he is doing via Skype with a couple of folks... I'm not in it... just hearing about it. Keep in mind, this is a quickie map, my penmanship could certainly be better...

Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

Very nice work as always Storn.

As a side note I was reading some of the earlier posts in this thread and noticed that you posted a picture of Doctor Destroyers chief of Security named Stormshadow but his appearance in Day of the destroyer named him StormWatch.

I like your name better and your art is Great.

Just wondering if you ever wanted to show us your vision of the ultimate DD henchman Gigaton.

or even your line up for the Champions Team if you got your own say as who or what archtypes should be in the book.

Once again great work.

Can you point that out? I have no idea if that was really meant to be StormWatch or if it was a character concept that I did. I'm just blanking....

As for the Champions Team, I've been out of the loop for some time... not sure who is around to put in there. I did not do any artwork for Champions Worldwide... or really have kept up with the events in the recent books. I do know that I would insist on Kinetix... as someone who lived near Detroit for quite some time, having such a white team in such a ethnic city as Detroit (blowing it up only means so much) is just... icky. And I like drawing speedsters!

Kinetik is an official member of The Champions as of News Of The World. So, he's on there now :)

Yea that was the pic I was refering to and to clearify the 2nd part. If you (Storn) had creative control of the new Champions team for 5th Edition who/what archtypes would you fill it with?

And thanks I hadan't read Champions newsworld so I didn't know that Kinetic had joined the Champions.

I think that the archtypes are fairly well represented. I have never cared for obsidian in 4th or the new guy brick in 5th ver. of Champions. I think "alien" is just kinda weak cop-out when being an alien should be reflected much, much stronger in the disads and much more care should be taken on WHY such an outsider would want to join in with a pre-eminent, human, super team to serve and protect.

But I really don't have a problem with the others. I like Nightwing, actually, although the "scar" disad does seem to be a bit ludicrous. I like J/Lo as a superheroine, especially drawing her with a trenchcoat as I did in one interior some time back... made her a bit more interesting visually to me.

...and back to the art....

Here is a sorta Osprey handling of a 'unit' portrait. Mercs called the Black Daggers.

Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

Here is Arcsilver, a good friend of mine's character, from back in the day in our Red Dragon Universe campaign. My gm Neil, popped for this commission, as the ghost of Arcsilver gently waves in the background of our current PBeM game, the Mavericks. RDU stuff and Arcsilver's history can be found here:
