Michael Hopcroft
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster If we have to have a meme about someone being ubertough and uberscary, why can't it be Christopher Lee? All Chuck Norris did before getting into the movies was win a few prizefights. Christopher Lee paradropped into occupied Europe to take down the Nazis! That took a lot of guts, resourcefulness, and courage.

薔薇語
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster I do sometimes wonder why Chuck Norris became the center of these kinds of jokes but I do not wonder why him as opposed to so many others, though. There are a few people out there who are as well known as Chuck Norris is, have the mystique of Badass, and don't already have something else tailored to them. Of your list, Lucius, I personally only now who John Wayne and Bruce Lee are. John Wayne already seems to have the mystique of Manliness while Bruce Lee is the Far East Mystic Badass - Part Spiritualist, Part Martial Artist, and all kinds of cool. But I think because he already had that kind of mystique, his career didn't last into to the current generation, and possibly because he isn't homegrown (being from Hong Kong n' all), he wasn't the natural selection for the role that Chuck Norris now occupies. But on an ever so slightly tangential point, does it actually bother people that Chuck Norris has this mystique? And I'm asking in all seriousness. Michael, Lucius, and anyone else, does the fact that Chuck Norris is the benefactor of this and not someone else actually bother you? If so, why so? La Rose. For one reason, all but two on you list are dead, and to make it two I had to count the Palindromedary. "If he's so bad-assed, why is he dead?" These only work with a living person, or an icon of badass such as Batman.

For the record Chuck also served in the military. Also, while martial arts competitions have evolved a lot since back then there was a time when he was concidered one of the best fighters in the world. There's a reason Bruce Lee personally requested he play the heavy in Return of the Dragon.

(Don't call me Shirley) I do believe he was talking about me since I'm the one who said that. And yes, that is correct. Going by name alone, I didn't know who he was. I had to look up his picture on the interwebs. That said, I do know his face and movies, just not his name. And name recognition is everything for Chuck Norris jokes to work. La Rose.
