Bazza
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster I usually suggest they calculate the maximum damage of that spell and compare it to my charge range. my wizard could if he wanted to could cause mass death, and easily kill 32,400 people in one go. 400 Death spells (using magic missile variant to transport payload) followed by 400 magic missile variants with Death special power (as per spell Chromatic Orb in The Complete Wizards Handbook for Second Edition) to knock out the "tall poppies" i.e. leaders of armies. See link above for further details. And said effect cast in ONE ROUND. Except my character is Neutral Good hence would not cast said spell(s). Although now that i think of it, change the effect to Positive Energy and use against the undead -- only taken me, what 12 years to figure that out... Oh...and GM posted that to the Mystara Mailing List without my authorisation or knowledge, so I guess he liked it. Come back to me when your "charge range" is better. Bazza
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Fahrenheit 451 nope. The linked article was written as a hypothetical, at the time my PC was much lower level. Of course when the campaign finished he was L36 as wizard L36 as Psionicist but advanced as per priest class, and L20 as a specialist warrior like paladin but used "spirit magic" not Divine magic. (spirit magic imported from RuneQuest aka RQ's battle magic).

I don't think I've ever seen a 92nd level character before. yes... well 92 Hit Dice (not levels) and he had superpowers. and worst of all when the campaign finished/cancelled/retired he was one single xp off level 21, which would have made 93 Hit Dice. That Sparhawk. Cheers.

Bazza
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster yeah...so what is your point? Simple...you do not have one. Because it wasn't a munchkin game. It was high powered, yes I'll grant that and this munchkinesque player loved it, but it wasn't a munchkin game. Obviously you haven't run a superheroes game along with the D&D rules. I get that. I have and it is still one of my treasured times at the table for the years that it lasted. It was more akin to the Marvel Universe as a D&D game, wizards, fighters, priests etc. That will hopefully give you (and others reading this an idea of the feel of the game. Eg Green Lantern power ring and a religious flagsuit Captain America Well our GM invented a rule system for superpowers which was independent of D&D but easily compatible. Our PCs used them, the villains used them to balance it out and it added flavour to the game and made it special. Oh and said character also had quite a few superpowers that were "ultimate skills" which I assume were inspired from Hero System. The hit dice is easy to explain. As i mentioned, the games was set in Mystara/Known World and the character was multiclassed (actually a dualclassed mind mage/battlemage). In the BECMI rules the maximum character level is 36 not 20 as it is for AD&D 2nd Edition which was the core rules system we were using and the mind mage class was the creation of the DM which is a Wizard/Psionicist hybrid and to advance in one level as a Mind Mage I had to advance in one level as a wizard and one level as a "priest". The Battlemagic class started out as a superpower which I was able to turn into an advancable class though I forget now how exactly I did this, maybe with a wish. Hope this explains it. Oh...and my other character was gnomaphobic.

Then you are correct. No fighter I ever played would have been able to survive that encounter. In fact, no party I've ever been in could have survived. The highest level character I ever played was a 21st level fighter that I played from 1978 to 1983 in about 1500 hours of gaming. He had a +3 sword. SteveZilla
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster It was high powered... The hit dice is easy to explain... ...maybe with a wish. Hope this explains it. It does. DC, meet... In fact' date=' no [b']party [/b]I've ever been in could have survived. The highest level character I ever played was a 21st level fighter that I played from 1978 to 1983 in about 1500 hours of gaming. He had a +3 sword. Marvel. Oh, and I've never playing in a game where *anybody* got a wish and actually used it. The one game I was in where it could have happened, *nobody* would touch that Genie with a 10-foot pole due to the problems associated with it. And not just from the usual twisting of meanings problems associated with wishes. Even my most self-admittedly munchkiny character, a level 18 Wizard with just about all the (non-artifact) blinb-bling one could want, wouldn't have had a snowballs chance in hell against that, no matter what preperations he had made beforehand. Now, if everybody in that game was having fun, then that is really what is important. But when people start whipping out their characters (from completely different games, and game systems) and comparing them in a "who-could-take-who" way, I am reminded of all the Marvel/DC comparisons. And I find DC (especially Superman, Green Lantern, and Flash) to be munchkiny, at least in terms of power level. Make Mine Marvel!
