"The Departed" as a Campaign Seed

One of the most hotly anticipated films of the year is coming out next week: Martin Scorcese's The Departed, a tale of deceit and betrayal in the Boston mob that was inspired by a true story (and became a very famous Hong Kong gangster film as well).

The setup is that a young cop (played by Leonardo DiCaprio, the former pretty-boy who has become one of Scorcese's favorite actors) is sent to infiltrate the organization of Boston crime lord Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) -- who has, in turn, sent his own mole into the task force investigating him. DiCaprio's character, to carry out his mission, must ingratiate himself with the brutal, charismatic gangster by any means necessary -- and, when Costello suspects a rat, must divert suspicion away from himself. All the while, he finds that the people who set him this task are showing an alarming lack of concern for his welfare, opening the possibility that not just Costello's mole but the Task Force itself has betrayed him....

What I'm curious about is whether a setup of this sort (obviously modified to be a group of infiltrators instead of a solitary one) wo0uld work in Dark Champions. It would obviously be a different sort of campaign -- issues of trust are rarely resolved with gunfire and high explosives -- but I am wondering whether, with the right group, it might prove very effective.

Sorry about the necro...but I had some thoughts about this. First, a most excellent movie. The movie was full of cliches', well done ones for sure; up until the last fifteen minutes. I was totally caught off guard and surprised.

As far as a campaign, there is one way it could work that I can think of-though it would take a lot of work to do it right. One player, for just a few sessions at a time. Only bring everyone together if the story flows that way.
