zornwil
Re: Artwork for Gestalt Great artwork! But now I will just admit my ignorance - can someone (preferably the author!) give a brief synopsis of just what Gestalt will be? I have a clue but not even a good one, as much as I've heard about it (but always in general as something coming, I haven't really heard the actual content)... zornwil
Re: Artwork for Gestalt You can find writeups of the original Gestalt campaign here. Is the scope a setting book that more or less covers the setting as from the original campaign?
GestaltBennie
Re: Artwork for Gestalt Gestalt's a project that's been in the works for a long time. It's an original campaign world, which I've run in four campaigns since 1993. The premise behind the world is that something happened in humanity's collective unconscious in 1989 that gave birth to superhumans, which came to be called "gestalts" (after the gestalt of the collective unconscious). Some of these superhumans were humans that gained powers, others were created out of wholecloth. The superhuman powers bonded themselves to themes and symbols, so superhumans aren't just a guy who's super-strong or can fire energy beams, he represents archetypes. He becomes the personification of Strength, or Fire, or various sub-types (a Strongman gestalt might be a circus Strongman or the reincarnation of Hercules, a Fire gestalt might represent a Firefighter or an Arsonist). These sub-types suggest subtle differences in powers. These gradations occasional produce supers who come across as humorous or very strange -- or very horrific. Very early after gestalts emerged, one of them decided to dress up as a superhero and call himself "America Man". Adopting comic book dress was an easy way to sell to the world what had happened, and it gained widespread acceptance. Over fifteen years later, the world has been changed, sometimes in small ways, sometimes in huge ways (one of the heroes went out into space and found aliens). With deepening mistrust of gestalts, a looming alien invasion, and a supervillain group that's declared war on the United States, and the ultimate boogeyman wanting to bring hell on earth, Gestalt: The Hero Within is a 400 page full-color sourcebook for Hero and Superlink, to be published by Blackwyrm Games in spring of this year. It contains a detailed explanation and house rules for Gestalt, a campaign chronology, dozens of sample archetypes, an overview of the campaign world, aliens, the mysterious Gestalt dimension, dozens of superheroes and villains, and two sample adventures. zornwil
Re: Artwork for Gestalt I kinda knew a bit, but not the extent or real focus of it. Thanks very much - it's embarrassing to ask after such a fabled project, but I figured I'd ask now instead of suffering in ignorance longer. I've been looking forward to Gestalt for years. I've been planning to buy it when it finally emerged. But the wait is so painful, now that it's so close to release.
