What Have You Watched Recently?

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I got the complete Black Adder for christmas last year, we recently re-watched the entire series.

I can't believe I missed a Rowan Atkinson series, I'll have to watch for that Thin blue line.

Thin Blue Line was fun. Much more pedestrian than Black Adder, with weaker supporting cast and writers, but still entertaining on its own terms.

What is it that I don't get about Rowan Atkinson? I mean, I like most British humor. I own a bunch of Python and season 1 & 2 of The Office, but Atkinson just leaves me cold.

Been watching Justice League Season 1, that I got for my son Robert (no really, it's for him.) Got my son Puck Superman Season 3, but he doesn't get to open that til Xmas.

I really like Black Adder, but Mr. Bean doesn't interest me at all.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Just watched the Blackadder Christmas Special.

Watched A Midsummer Nights Dream (a for-kids musical production), again. (My five-year old loves it)

My favorite is the musical version called "Scrooge" with Albert Finney in the lead (Which is saying something since I generally hate musicals). Second place is between George C. Scott and Patrick Stewart. After that, I kinda like the Henry Winkler "An American Christmas Carol".

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Casino Royale is the most recent movie I saw in the theatres, but that has been discussed so frequently in these boards there seems to need to go into it here. I was going to see The Queen this afternoon, but the box office was closed when i arrived.

On my DVR, waiting for me to take the opportunity to sit down and watch it from start to finish, is Dirty War, a BBC thriller about a hypothetical Al-Qaeda "dirty bomb" attack on London.

Also waiting for me is Popeye, the most notable failure of Robert Altman's career, all the more frustrating because some of the bits of it (in which the viewer is immersed into the visually unique world of Segar) and fascinating.

I like the Bill Murray version. The man is a genius, a genius I tell you!

Also a very good one! I tend to forget that one because it's a comedy, but it's definitely up there.

. . . Not one single channel is showing any version of A Christmas Carrol this year . . .
Caught the Patrick Stewart one the other night on cable; I think it was TBS or TNT. I always expect him to say, "Alright spirit #1, Make it so!"

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Oohhh... I got that for Christmas!

I generally don't watch things multiple times. I've watched Advent Children no less than five times now, and every time I love it. It is honestly better if you've played the original PS One game, though, Michael. If you can get a copy, I highly suggest doing this:

- Purchase a PS One (yeah, the original PS One, unless you really want a PS2, there's no need for this exercise) or borrow someone's old one. A used PS One will run about $25.00. I have some spare controllers and cables if you need them. Shoot, if I find my old PS One I'll give it to you.

- Purchase a copy of Final Fantasy VII. It'll cost about $10.00 in most cases, if you wander around the used game stores you should be able to find it easily - you might even find a sealed copy.

- Now, play the game. It'll also give you a bunch of ideas for new character write ups, and you'll get to see the original Cloud Strife in action. It's a fantastic game that still holds up today. Also, if you decide you like it, I also recommend Vagrant Story, the best PS One game no one played.

- If you get stuck, you can download what is probably over one hundred guides & FAQs at this point from Gamespot, IGN, 1up, or any number of game sites. I cannot recommend it enough, though, and the movie will make more sense. You CAN watch the movie without it, as it does a wonderful job of explaining itself, but there's a ton of homages and inside jokes and in-game references that you won't understand otherwise.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I watched "Magma: Volcanic Disaster" on Sci-Fi last night. And yes' date=' it was depressingly bad.[/quote']

I must confess, that it "Magma: Volcanic Disaster" was one of those shows that I started to watch and soon

(the first commercial break) moved on to quickly forget!

The CGI that was used for most of the magma flow scenes was REALLY bad.:o

Yes, I was flipping back and forth between MVD and another "nailbiter"

while I consumed large amounts of carbohydrates in a catatonic vegetative state last night.:D

Well TV was SO exciting last night, I watched another episode of "Emperor of the Sea"(DVR) and six episodes or the anime "Spiral" plus worked on my two scenarios for ConquestNW.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I caught the last half of a movie called "Strings" a couple hours ago. It's entirely acted by wooden marionettes, with basically no facial expression; in fact, in a battle scene at the end a lot of the attacking soldiers had very stylized, almost "faceless" heads.

This was one of the most emotionally charged and masterfully directed movies I've seen in years, and the emotions could be conveyed only in the voices of the actors and the musical score. It had love, tragedy, conflict, treachery and loyalty, all the good stuff, and none of the Hollywood shyness about real emotion by defusing it with comedy.

I'm going to try to track this one down on DVD.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Actually, the Great Soliloquy is what gets stuck in my head - "I'm the Master of Fright, and a Demon of Light, and I'll scare you right out of your pants. To a guy in Kentucky, I'm MR. UNLUCKY and I'm known throughout England and France! And since I am dead, I can take off my head, to recite Shakespearian quotation! No animal nor man, can SCREAM like I can, with the fury of my recitations!"

Love it.
