Transporter 4: Refueled.

Ed Skrein did a solid job and was a worthy stand-in / replacement for Jason Stratham.

I liked him in it.

The plot was as cheesy / campy / unrealistic as one would expect from a transporter film.

One advantage over the other three films: no annoyingly-incessantly screeching women.

If you want a high-octane, popcorn munching action film, its a go.

No name on the Bullet. This is an old Audie Murphy western where he plays a gunman hired to kill people. His mere appearance panics people into making mistakes.

The Day of the Jackal. If you have not seen this film, find it and watch it. Perfectly plotted, an assassin goes about trying to kill President de Gaulle. And the police having broken the rules on getting close to the people behind it go after him.

Jason and the Argonauts. Harryhousen's version. Brilliant.

Spectre.

The 24th official Bond film. This one ties in all the Craig ones in one umbrella.

We get introduced to the organisation after Bond kills an assassin in Mexico City during the Day of the Dead celebrations and then goes to the guy's funeral. Thereafter we are introduced to the head of this group and his new assassin (Dave Bautista). Bond goes after old adversary Mr White and then after the group's head again.

After the past three films the fate of a woman Bond has sex with is left unclear. Monica Belluci playing the assassin's widow is herself to be killed but Bond kills the assassins and after nookie gives her the phone number of Felix Leiter and she exits the film. We hear nothing more of her.

The Day of the Dead bit at the start is brilliant. You start with a tracking shot which picks up a man watching another man. This is Bond in disguise. The camera stays with him as he goes into a hotel, upstairs and then into and out of a room enroute to kill the assassin.

You then have a chase through the crowd and a fight in a helicopter above the crowd in the square in Mexico City. Impressive. Especially to marshal the people and for them not to panic as the helicopter goes low over the crowd.

Bond is not on assignment but is carrying out the previous M's orders. The current M grounds Bond and has Q implant tracking nanites in his blood. The 00 branch is being merged within the security services and is under threat as you can do everything with computers as the new C says. (C is what the British secret service call their boss.) Bond is to remain in London.

So he gets Q to lie for him as he goes off to Rome for the funeral of the assassin which Judi Dench's M told him to do via a message  on video. He only takes a watch but steals the car meant for 009. He asks Moneypenny to check up what a reference to the Pale King is and shows her the famous Spectre ring.

After watching the funeral he meets the widow who has guards. After returning to her house alone you see the guards follow her outside with guns and they are about to kill her when Bond kills them. Bond gives her Felix Leiter's details and he goes to see the Spectre meeting using the ring as his entrance. She warns him it is too dangerous.

Bond watches from the background as various reports are given which mention two different terror outrages and the new global security program which the group are behind, and then the group's head appears but is cloaked in shadow. A new member must be selected to replace the guy killed in Mexico. The Pale King must be killed and one guy says he can do it. Then the boss asks if anyone wishes to challenge this and enter Bautista who show his credentials by killing the guy. The boss then reveals Bond is there and he flees chased through Rome in a high speed car chase by Bautista. However the car Bond is driving is not armed so he can't get rid of him that way. Te chase ends with Bond's car in the Tiber

Bond goes to Austria and finds Mr White (The Pale King). The former is dieing from Thallium poisoning and commits suicide. He gives Bond a lead to his daughter who will in turn lead him to the head of the group.

Mr White's daughter wants nothing to do with Bond but is kidnapped by Bautista. Bond gives chase in a plane in the next action sequence whlle Q looks at the Spectre ring. After rescuing the girl and after Q evades goons sent after him, the three meet up and Q tells Bond that the ring links Le Chiffre, Greene and Silva from the previous three films. The girl then names the organisation as Spectre but the acronym is not broken down.

Bond and the girl go to North Africa to find more evidence and discover a hidden room in a hotel where Mr White stayed.

This in turn leads them on a trip out into the desert on a train where Bautista attacks them again. He is presumably killed in the fight after only uttering one word. Bond and the girl are picked up from a remote station stop and we are then introduced to Franz Oberhauser aka Ernst Stavro Blofeld. He was the son of Bond's guardian after Bond was orphaned. So naturally he kills his own father to stop the cuckoo (Bond). They have the cat.

Bond is tortured by Blofeld and passes his watch to the girl who throws it towards Blofeld where it causes an explosion and gets Bond free. Bond kills a few people while the two escape back to London. Bond gets back together with M, Moneypenny, Tanner and Q in order to stop the global intelligence link which is controlled by Spectre. The girl leaves as she does not want to go with Bond. Bond and M are then ambushed and thugs take Bond away whilst M escapes with Q, Tanner and Moneypenny.

C is confronted by M as Q attempts to stop the satellite surveillance network and Bond goes to the old HQ blown up in Skyfall after disposing of the guys who grabbed him.

Bond sees photoes of old foes like Silva and Le Chiffre and also Vesper and Judi Dench's M as Blofeld rubs it in. He survived the explosion and now has the scar that Donald Pleasence had as Blofeld in You Only Live Twice. Blofeld has grabbed the girl and is going to blow up the old building leaving Bond with a choice, run or save the girl. Bond saves the girl while Blofeld tries to get away in a helicopter. M and C clash and C dies in a fall as a result and Q shuts down the new (compromised) security network. Bond and the girl get into a speedboat in the ruined basement area of the old MI6 HQ and chase Blofeld shooting him down. Blofeld survives the crash on a London bridge and Bond does not shoot him as he is out of bullets

I liked it. It was a bit long yes but the Day of the Dead bit at the start is an absolute wonder.

Just saw Joy in the theater with my mother Christmas Day. Mom was incredibly impressed with Jennifer Lawrence (best know for the Hunger Games films) as a young woman with a horrible family situation who invents a new and better mop -- and what happens to her when she tries to sell it.

Lawrence is very impressive, and her struggle is gut-wrenching as disaster after disaster piles on to her. That horrible family is the cause of much of it; her father is a bull-headed man with no sense of tact or place, while her mother lives entirely in her favorite soap opera. Nobody really believes in Joy, and there are times when you doubt whether they should. Even when you want her to succeed, you must admit that she makes some pretty bad decisions.

The main thing I'm glad about? That David O. Russell is a better writer than Ayn Rand and has a much more nuanced view of the world.

Fargo 2nd Season.

Much more death than the first season as two groups of organised criminals go to war. There is the sly Coen Brothers sense of humour at play as first a man who has killed three people in a diner is run down and has to be battered to death. Later the person who batters the man to death is almost caught by the police while disposing of the evidence.

The first series is linked to this one by the fact that the policewoman from season 1 being a young girl in this one and it is her father who is involved in this.

Ted Danson is the policeman's father in law and underplays wonderfully. He does not overshadow the rest of the cast.

Jon Hamm also guests in a small role as one of the Kansas mob.

Bokeem Woodbine is one of two stand out performances as a member of the Kansas City mafia. The other is Zahn McClarnon as the Indian Hanzee who is one of the survivors of the whole thing.

Patrick Wilson and Kirstin Dunst who are the most familiar members of the cast and acquit themselves well.

There is a slow burn to this and it is not as viewer friendly as the first season but it is well worth sticking with.

And Then There Were None.

The Agatha Christie story about ten people on an island who then learn that they are all accused of murder and then someone starts bumping them off one by one.

Great cast. Aiden Turner, Toby Stephens, Miranda Richardson, Sam Neill, Anna Maxwell Martin, Burn Gorham and Charles Dance are all in the cast.

The 1945 and 1974 films are different to the ending in the book and change some details but this version does not. There are slight differences in that you see what everyone did and slight differences to the story behind the detective and the judge.
