Re: Cool Guns for your Games

Where can I find out if removing the plug from a Remington 870 is illegal in my state?

Check your local hunting regulations to start. The plug is typically there to meet waterfowl requirements.

Right, in most places it is illegal to hunt (I think everywhere for migratory waterfowl) with a shotgun that holds more than three rounds. Some states iirc go so far as to limit all shotguns, but I am not certain.

I would have liked to see that, but when I click on the link all I get is

Re: Cool Guns for your Games

As fond as I am of lever guns, that is just plain ugly. To the right sort of mindset it may be beautiful, but I guess I don't possess that particular mindset.

I'm particularly fond of the whole 19th century firearms scene, from just about the beginning of the caplock era through the early "smokeless powder" weapons. (I once owned a Winchester model 94 in .30-30, my favorite rifle of all time, just ahead of the Black Powder rifle I owned (a very inexpensive one with black plastic furniture) and my SKS rifle, my first long arm purchase.

Some examples (including weird ones that are less than practical and some that are just artists conceptions):

The Jocylin Chain Pistol, patented in 1866:

Winchester model 1887 (replica shown. I could not fins a pic of an original that wasn't HUGE!).

Beretta ARX-100.  Semi-auto only civilian legal version of the ARX-160.  Fast change barrel, reversible ejection, amazingly adjustable stock...

It should be SUPER easy to rebarrel to .300 Blackout, possibly others depending on details of bolt.

.300 winchester magnum variant of the AR platform.   There is another one from NEMO arms.  .338 Lapua makes a lot more sense to me, but ammo would not be as easily available.

A new "12ga" shotshell designed specifically for magazine feeding, and an AR15 based gun to fire it.   I had a similar thought 20 years ago, but decided it was probably not worth it.   Though these guys seem to have a good idea, it looks like it still needs some work.

Talking about hearing protection, or the lack of it. I was at an Archenemy gig some years back, held in a rather small theatre. Some bright spark decides to kick the volume waaay up so that, even sitting in the back as I was (and always do), I was half-deaf for about a week afterward. No, I wasn't wearing hearing protection... I hadn't anticipated the need. Sitting at the back usually is protection enough and the volume is at a contextually reasonable level.

And, back on subject:  those "tacticool" lever action rifles are just ugly. The original models, OTOH, are things of beauty, such as the Winchester 1873 or 1894.

Still, here's what I'd like to have:

Ammo:

They call it the R.I.P. round and with good reason. G2 Research has released a new ammo that is taking the market by storm and has gun owners all over the country trying to find where to pick some up.

As of now, the company is only releasing specifications for their 9mm round and they go a lil’ something like this:

* 16″ Penetration
* Up to 6″ diameter spread
* 96 gr projectile
* 2″ grouping at 25 yrds
* 1265 FPS / 490 Muzzle Energy
* 9 Separate Wound Channels
* Precision Machined
* Solid Copper / Lead Free
* Defeats all known barriers such as sheet metal, sheet rock, windshields, plywood, heavy winter clothing

My experience with my Pro Carry II is that though there was a minor initial problem, they fixed it free and even replaced the tritium in my night sights.

Sometimes I wish I had the extra inch of barrel length, but it carries a touch easier because of the 4",

Amazing claims, but note they don't show what the wound ballistics are AFTER barricades.   I think I would stick with Barnes, personally.   Though there a a LOT of good bullet designs now.
