Re: Cool Guns for your Games

I'm in the same boat. =) While I didn't like the initial submissions of their design' date=' it is getting interesting. FN's FS2000 is also very interesting. THe only thing about these rifles is they look like there's some kind of "droop" in the line of the rifle for some reason. Dunno. Interesting concept, though, for sure.[/quote']

I am actually most interested in the 24 " barrel, thoough the 18 inch "Carbine" would be a superb "Car Gun." :eg:

Yeah, that picture does make the barrel look like it droops. Odd...

"Ride the Lightning" would also be a good selection.

Might just be the picture, i'm not going to worry about it. =) I like carbines. I have short arms, so I need... well... short arms. :D

M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System

Saw this in the latest Popular Mechanics and thought I'd pass it along--something for you SWAT teamers--

Another page with the M26 attached to an M4, and a video--

How cool would it be to shoot something with that monster?

How about shooting something with the Navy's Rail Gun? The ultimate objective:

A shell is launched at Mach 7 through the electromagnetic rails into the atmosphere for about one minute, flies out of the atmosphere for four minutes, and then descends to Earth toward its target at Mach 5 in approximately one minute. The projectile is guided using the Global Positioning System.

Re: Cool Guns for your Games

I remember one cool looking gun I saw in American Rifleman as a kid. It was a prototype that competed with the M1911. It's funny, I've seen it once in my life, never heard mention of it again, but it only took a few minutes to find a picture on line:

Actually, that probably doesn't strike anyone under 40 as funny. :o

Looks like a ray gun, almost. =) Are those cartridges necked? Very odd. I'm glad we went with the 1911. =)

On an entirely other note, anyone here ever seen a picture of a real revolver with a picatinny rail top, slab-side barrel, full underlug, that looked like one piece? I posted a picture of an airsoft version here somewhere, but I swear I saw a real gun like it somewhere else. I want to find the gunsmith who did it and have something similar done to my personal revolver. Maybe Gewing? You always seem to know about all sorts of odd firearm stuff. =)

That sounds very stylish--I'd love to have a gun like that.

Meet the AA12, the world’s first (and scariest) automatic shotgun, built by Jerry Baber of MPS.

From Discovery Channel’s FutureWeapons:

It’s a gun that could end up rewriting the rules of urban warfare. I’d like to introduce you to the shotgun for the 21st century, the AA 12. The Auto Assault 12 is a fully automatic, gas operated, low recoil, 12 gauge shotgun designed specifically for the military. One blast from the shotgun is terrifying enough, but the AA12 delivers an incredible rate of nearly 300 rounds a minute.

Re: Cool Guns for your Games

The 'gun bunny' in me is almost having a 'gun-gasm'...

(of course, living in the UK I could never actually own one - not legally, anyway:thumbdown)

Odd that I had already thought of something almost exactly like this thing years ago (complete with specialist ammo) for my SF games...it was called the "Death Cloud" :D

Some questions arise from this video:

1. Do those fins make the round spin? (I know it is possible to use canted fins to make projectiles fired from a smoothbore weapon spin; just wondering whether or not they do in this case)

2. I wonder what the AP round is like (is it kinetic or HEAP? - obviously, if the round does spin, then HEAP is less efficient because the spinning has bad effects on the molten metal/gas jet)

3. If the round could be made to spin at a reasonable rate using canted fins, I wonder whether a workable HESH round could be made for it?

Of course, some of you guys with more practical gun experience (I have not touched one since 1987:thumbdown) could probably enlighten me.

Ooo...a .600 Nitro Express break-open single shot pistol. FYI' date=' the .600 Nitro Express was a rifle cartridge developed to hunt elephants, rhinos, and cape buffalo. Here is the Wikipedia entry for the cartridge.

I didn't follow those links, but I have seen a clip (I think I posted it here too in a different thread) of an idiot firing one of those...:nonp:
