Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam!

I'll take that as an I give up, but before I revel the answer here's two hints.

1. It's a cartoon

2. That isn't the whole group. The cartoon had a lot of charecters, so I did most but not all of the bad guys.

Yes it was obviously a cartoon. I thought it might be Wacky Racers, but...

Jackson? The guy on Rushmore is Jefferson' date=' architect and inventor as well as politician.[/quote']

I'd like to blame something for my brainfart there but...I gots nothing.

And I love throwing my ignorance...even if it was temporary...out into the open :)

it WAS Jefferson's library that became the library of congress, wasn't it?

I just had the wrong name...I hope.

More or less. The original library collection was destroyed by the British in the War of 1812, so Jefferson sold his large personal book collection to it to replace the lost one. But what I had in mind was his career as an inventor. He invented a new kind of plow, a dumbwaiter, a code machine...

Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam!

Let's see if we can't reignite this thread. Here's a pretty easy one:

Dr. Bolt - Genius scientist who created a new body for himself to replace his dying one. Gadgets are centered around lightning bolts.

Nightshade - An extremely nice guy deep[ down, he's the requisite clawed warrior. Prone to blackouts.

Unknown - He has the ability to make people ignore him, blending in effortlessly wherever he goes. Infiltration specialist, obviously.

Anchorage - He wears a specialized diving suit for swift, stealthy underwater operations. Considers himself a real ladies' man, but they can't stand him.

The Dragon - Born of noble blood, he is exceptionally dangerous. He relishes his reputation as an urban legend; no pictures of him exist.

Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam!

OK, here's my contribution to the thread:

Strider: this fellow has the power to cover vast distances simply by stretching

his legs and walking. His arms can also stretch in length.

Mass Man: has the ability to absorb matter of any kind into his body, becoming

incredibly huge in the process.

Visionary: has optical powers of such strength that he has to wear special eye-

glasses to keep from destroying anything he looks at.

A few things to keep in mind when trying to figure out who these guys are: one,

they're not comic-book characters; and two, they don't come from TV either.

What I will tell you is that these are characters from literature that were published

years ago (just how long ago is something even I don't know).

Daughters of the Sun

Sophia: Named after the greek word for wisdom, all-knowing Sophia can see or hear almost everything all through the city where the team lives.

Aella: Named after the whirlwind, Aella can move faster than the eye can see, noticeable only by the wake of wind she leaves behind

Helia: Named after the sun god, Helia fires tightly controlled heat rays

Khione: Named after the daughter of the north wind, Khione fires blasts of wind that can just throw targets around, or freeze them solid.

Alke: Named after the greek word for strength, Alke possesses enormous strength.

Amalthea: Named after the goat that suckled Zeus and from which the aegis was made (in some myths), Amalthea can generate forcefields that are virtually impenetrable.

Asteria: Named after the stars, Asteria possesses the power of flight and the ability to survive even unprotected in outer space.

Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam!

The inspiration can come from anywhere.

This is a team that I've had for some time but never had a chance to use. Some may be somewhat obscure, but have a common root.

The Man in White: Pale, but not albino, somewhat portly older man. Has white hair and a neatly trimmed white goatee. Wears a white three piece linen suit, carries a white cane. Speaks with a southern accent. Amazingly agile for his weight and apparent age, martial artist with some TK, enough bojitsu to use the cane offensively and defensively.

The Man in Black: Wears black gaucho boots, tight tailored pants and shirt (black), and a black sombrero. Bandoleers of bullets criss-cross his chest, and there are two pistols worn on his belt. Crack shot. Speaks English and Spanish with a Mexican accent. Looks younger and more athletic than the Man in White, comments imply that he is actually older. Seems to have a rivalry with the Man in White for leadership of the group, both claim to be the leader, team will follow orders from either, but somehow their orders never contradict each other.

The Girls. Appear to be in their late teens / early twenties. Both high DEX martial artist/minor speedsters. Both wear vaguely para-military outfits, but very different from each other. The burnette wears black slacks and shirt, with a red cap, jacket and a blaster pistol on a silver belt. The blonde's uniform is cerulean piped with white, with white belt and roller skates, topped with a folding cloth flight cap. Brunette speaks with a Midwestern accent, the blonde a southern one.

The Slacker. Strawberry blond in his mid 20's. Speedster, faster than the two girls put together. Wears very large (size 16?) cross trainers, baggy pants, baggy sweat shirt, and shades. Shades 24/7, indoors and out. Has freckles, disdainful of anyone who mentions them. Accent is a strange combination of East and West coast, like a Jersey Boy who was moved to the OC when he was 13. Wile E Coyote-like ability to absorb damage.

And finally Gidget. Six pound mentalist, often carried by one or the other of The Girls in a purse-like conveyance. Same accent as The Man in Black.

I need to keep up with current events better. Found out I need to add a pirate and a bear to this team. They needed a brick.

This is easy. Each has one of Superman's powers.

Superman generates force fields?

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary says of course, Superman can do anything

That was Superman's invulnerability, which Byrne at least, modelled as a skin-tight force-field

This would be a cool superteam. I don't know why I never read this fairy tale before.

Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam!

OK, I guess no one else is going to take a guess, so I'll spill the beans. The characters

that inspired my "superteam" were Longshanks, Girth, and Keen, from a Norwegian

children's story of the same name (I think it was one of Hans Christian Andersen's,

but I'm not sure).

It sounds like our tale might be a precursor to the mentioned Six Servant's fairy tale, which is a precursor to the Baron Munchausen stories. So we weren't completely off the mark, but this story is a nice bit of history revealed.
