WWYCD: Out of cash

SilentMan

Recommended Posts

Due to unfortunate circumstances, your team has lost nearly all of its financial assets (and this means everyone in your team).

You have enough to take care of basic needs but that´s all.

You find out that another large scale disaster will soon happen and

aside from your powers/skills, stopping disaster will require significant resources.

(Perfect example of this Fantastic Four; they have been in financial trouble more than once and many of their more powerful enemies can defeated only by using Reed´s devices. If Reed was destitute...)

Mister Nonsense: MORE MERCHANDISING! Let's do a 20% off sale of the bobblehead dolls, and print some new T-Shirts.

Shift: Good news is, I still got enough ammo to last me about a year. Bad news is, I doubt my ammo will be enough. As much as I hate playing by their rules, I think we need PRIMUS funding.

Emerald Dragon: ...WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ALL MY MONEY? I was going to do my daily Scrooge McDuck dive, but there's nothing to dive into! I'm going to make sure this wasn't an identity theft thing and if it is... well, I think there are talks of a new Immortal Flame movie....

October Raven: We should try to collaborate our forces with PRIMUS and any heroes that are willing to work with us. It's not the ideal route, but it's better than letting this disaster harm innocents.

Anthem couldn't be much poorer.

Audra Blue already has lots of debt, as a result of helping the super team do some questionable actions (a lot of the people who contracted her for security have dropped her), and all she has to do is maintain the base, as the team is independant and funded from elsewhere. If she was on her last dime she could electronically embezzle from somewhere... but she'd rather not, as it might reflect badly on her associates.

Uncle Slam is not on a team and has just resigned from PRIMUS in order to make a run at the Presidency.

Soulbarb: comes from a wealthy family. All else fails, she can call up her folks in secret ID, though she'd certainly have some explaining to do for what happened to her own trust fund. Then again, she's a street level heroine, so normally she doesn't need a lot of money for whipping up uber-inventions of the week.

Sylph: is a poor university student. What money? Actually, she has recently started to collect some money from endorsement deals, but it's not like she's grown used to having it yet. Worse comes to worst, she can go the route of the US medical system and actually start charging for her services as a healer, but that isn't a step she would undertake lightly as she feels it's her responsibility to help those who need her help.

Re: WWYCD: Out of cash

The Count has a strong sense of noblese oblige. If he is unable to provide the finances (which would imply someone had put considerable effort in eliminating his own wealth), the Count would assume that other wealth community leaders are obligated to donate their own money to the cause. In Houston, that would most likely be the biggest oil corporations.

Since he has Persuasion (16-), and preventing a disaster is in the corporations' best interest, this would be easy to accomplish. If it's not enough, 12d6 of Mind Control could be used to "remind" the corporate leaders of their obligations.

In order to rebuild his fortunes, the Count would start robbing the wealthiest criminals in the city (particularly drug dealers).

'Mancer (a tech type) would license some of his inventions in his secret ID. He'd probably have to settle for less money in order to close the deal fast with a substantial sum up front.

Jake the Troll - has the financial reserves of a teenager from rural Vancouver, BC. I guess this means someone stole his allowance...

Icon - is another teenager. Finances are totally not an issue, unless her dad looses his job, or something.

Shinji Miromoto - is financed by the City of Denver. If they go belly-up, it's time to talk to the feds.

Widower - wow, I play in a lot of teen games...

Re: WWYCD: Out of cash

Okay, team, listen up! We're broke and the next Big Bad is right around the corner. We need resources yesterday! With our experience and power, I THINK we can put what we've learned in our Sunday-afternoon Shadowrun game to good use. There's a $4 million bounty on the Coronado twins that no one has been able to collect because their mansion is across the border and defended like a fortress. We don't even have to figure out where they're hiding, just plan and execute the extraction. We'll probably want different costumes and code-names for this one.

Gaze would simply inform Lady Luck it was time to arrange a local lottery win or something for them.

Vixen would do much the same with Chance, though there would likely have to be intimidation involved as the little goody-two-shoes keeps babbling on and on about using his powers 'responsibly' and 'not for personal gain'. What a dork!

Jack Diamond would figure it's time to collect the reward money on a couple of criminals he's been keeping on the back burner while more pressing issues have held his attention.

Pariah would use Earth Magic to locate something of value hidden away in the rocks.

Thunderstrike would hack into VIPERnet and siphon off some of their funds. What? It's not like they're going to report it....

Enigma would work with some of the other heroes--Diamond, perhaps--on some sort of operation to bring in highly-valued criminals. He also knows enough about certain people that he could blackmail them if it came right down to it.

Amethyst has all the resources of a 4,000-year-old secret society behind her. It's hard to imagine her running out of money.

Morningstar would hit the street, looking for pimps, drug dealers, and petty criminals with more money than they really need.

ColdFire has a 20 COM. Photoshoot, anyone?

Wild Card would just enter a high-stakes poker game. Casino Royale, anyone?

Onyx would have no idea what to do, but once someone else presented a plan, he'd be behind it 100%!

Re: WWYCD: Out of cash

Microman II: Not especially credible ( too many people would have to spontaneously lose their fortunes ), but push comes to shove, Horus-Re asks for a loan from the feds, or Cyrande starts conjuring some platinum. Microman is not really involved in team finance in any way.

Diomedes: Presuming that the challenge is scaled down to 'city' level. . . I'm still not really certain what we'd need the money for. Still, if we lost our support from the mayor, we pretty much would be out of funds. If there's at least a modicum of time before the threat appears, Diomedes could work the stock market for some funds, though. He's reasonably good at it. Realistically, the rest of the team would be contacting Horus-Re though.

Jack Frost: Not credible at all; the only way Unity could lose access to funds is if it got disbanded by UNTIL, which is spectacularly unlikely to happen in the recent aftermath of the V'Hanian Invasion, especially with several team members being heroes from such. If it somehow happened anyway, Monkey Wrench would just sell a few patents, perhaps newly created ones.

Hermes: Could well happen, given Aral is currently comatose, leaving the main source of money being Quetzlcoatl and his chocolate plantations. One engineered blight and he's going to be bankrupt. That said, we know enough people that if the world *really* did need saving, by us specifically, and we needed funds to achieve such. . . we'd get the funds.

Re: WWYCD: Out of cash

I'm surprised no one's gone for 'pr0n' yet.

Salvage work could net a fair haul. All those disused items in orbit, worth a fortune to collectors some of them.

Or, undersea, if you're going for a challenge.

Playboy and Playgirl are not only more tasteful, they pay VERY WELL for celebrities. Porn Producers would, but they never seem to have half a million to spend on talent. Or so I gather from my research.

Luna Moth: Officially, she is a college student with a couple of student loans. And Luna isn't really a hero, she just steals from the same sort of people that the heroes oppose.

Unofficially, due to a trio of heroic siblings, the phantom thief would be one of the go-to people if the local team suffered a financial set-back and needed cash fast. In which case, the funding needed would unknowingly* come from the local Nest, DEMOMhame, and other criminal organizations. (*Unknowingly, as in neither side would know anything about what happened to the money beyond it coming into Luna Moth's possession.)

The Flying Kittens:"Hi, Diana. ... Yes, it's nice to hear your voice too. ... We've got a problem... No, they didn't blow the house up yet. ... It's the team we're with, they need some cash so they can rebuild their space station's defence systems in time to stop the invasion. ... Deadline's two weeks from now. ... Of course not. We won't ask where or how you got it, and we certainly won't tell them how we got it."

Well for my characters Frosty Bob maybe. Badger, err, no raised Catholic, kinds of picks and chooses which virtues to follow (as in Thou shalt not kill, he tends to "forget") But, fornication and such is a big no-no he tends to follow. Porn also would denote a lack of self-honor to him

ANyhow, Frosty Bob has quite a few "favors"* he might could call in. He has worked for mob bosses between wars on occasion. Might could "remind" them how he helped them (or more likely their grandpas, Bob's been around since at least WWII) way back when with a "hit" on a rival that helped keep their shady business afloat.

Badger, has nothing much to do with financials, much of his food comes from hunting/gathering (he lives in a cave outside town for Pete's sake) with only occasional "donations" from teamates. He'd let the others scrounge up money.

*- doesnt technically have those listed, but would make sense due to history. GM's discretion type thing.

A good point. In which case Vitus's concubine 3, with her superhumanly high beauty and several centuries experience to making herself appear sexually desirable to a variety of species, would probably be earning the group a large amount of cash.

On the other hand, by the time the money came thru the predicted disaster would have happened.

On the third hand, millions of readers across the U.S. would be very happy, so all in all a positive result.

Re: WWYCD: Out of cash

Hmmmm....

1. Appeal to the greater nature of those with resources? e.g. Reed Richards convinces Doom to let him "borrow" a space craft by pointing out the commercial possibilities; Corax convinces the Lady of Chicago that investing in a new quantum whatsit named after her is the "social coup" of the century.

2. Find alternative solutions?

3. "Commandeer" the resources under the legal doctrine of necessity or as an aspect of your official police powers?

4. Talk smack to the Avengers and goad them into handling it for you?
