Pariah
Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine She was a brilliant biologist, cyberneticist, and engineer, one of the best and most brilliant in the world. But when she discovered that her body was being destroyed by a ravenous disease, she began to despair. Who would complete her work? Who could even understand her work? She could think of no one. When she died, everything she had ever worked for would die with her. So she did the only thing she could think of . . . she built a robotic body and transferred her consciousness into it. Now free from the limits of flesh and blood, she works tirelessly to advance the biological and cybernetic sciences that will one day save all of humanity. The Arc
Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Alaska It had been a whirlwind romance for Samantha. She had met John in an exclusive chat room on the internet, and the two had sparked an instant liking. Over the next few days, she had met John who was an investment banker with American International Group, and thinks seemed to just blur. They had drinks atop the Space Needle in Seattle, where John proposed marriage. In a daze Samantha said yes. Two days later they were wed. It was John who suggested they take his sailboat on a cruise of the Gulf of Alaska to celebrate their honeymoon. Samantha was ecstatic. She have never been on a cruise before, let alone to Alaska. Samantha was in for a further suprise. John owned his own yacht, a fourty footer. John claimed to be good sailor and even better investment banker. Over dinner in the galley of his yacht, John convinced Samantha to invest her money in some stocks that he just knew were going places. Samantha had large inhierentence from her grandmother, and since her and John were going to be together for the rest of their lives, Samantha thought nothing about signing over the control of her money to John. John was an honest businessman. The next night the couple sipped champaigne on the deck under the dazzling lights of the Aurora Borealis. It was a magical time. Samantha must've drank more that she had thought because she was feeling a bit woozy. Samantha was just about to go back below deck when disaster struck. Something hit her in the back thrusting her forward and out into the frigid waters of the Gulf of Alaska. The cold of the water sapped Samantha's strength in an instant. It hurt to breathe. Strugling to stay a float Samantha could just make out John on his yacht watching her. Samantha tried to get him to throw her a lifeline, but he just stood there watching. Realization that John was trying to kill her finally dawned on Samantha. Her last words to him were, "I thought that you loved me." To this Samantha faintly heard of the waves just before she went under the last time were John saying, "I lied." That night in the Gulf of Alaska, Samantha should've died, and maybe she did, certainly a part of her did. The body of woman was found washed up on the shore of Kodiak Island by a couple of fishermen. At first the men thought she was dead, because she was certainly ice cold, and no one survived in the frigid waters of the Gulf of Alaska for long. However, they were both shocked to see the woman take in a shuttering breathe, and then her eyes opened, and she let out a terrible scream. Two days later, Samantha was in Anchorage, in a hospital. The doctors couldn't explain her miraculous surviving of being in the waters of the Gulf of Alaska for several days. Nor could the police find anything about the man whom she known as John. None of it really mattered to Samantha. She was cold, on the inside and out. She just lay in her bed staring at the ceiling. A shrink was brought in but even he was unable to break through her icy depression. Her lawyer flew in from Seattle, and told her that someone had withdrawn all of her money and had promptly disappeared. Samantha was discharged from the hospital the next day. The cold that was with her since coming awake remained with her. Wandering the streets of Anchorage, a city she had never been to before, Samantha easily got lost. It was her misfortune to run into a group of drunken men who had just gotten thrown out of a bar for fighting. She paid their catcalls no mind until one of them grabbed her by the wrist, and tried to pull her in for a kiss. It was like ice shattering in Samantha's mind. The betrayal, the attempt on her life, the theft of her lifes' savings, and now this. Cold rage swept through her body, and the cold answered her comands like a fragment of herself. Ice frosted across her body like a shell. The man who grabbed her yelped in pain as the cold stung his hand. Ice shard lacerated the men who fled before the icy rage that Samantha projected all around her. Soon the street was deserted, but alarms wailed all around, as huge shards of ice broke windows, and damaged nearby cars. In the center of all this maelstrom stood Samantha. On and on the cold rage blossomed out. Water lines ruptured and quickly froze. In mere moments the alarms quieted, their electronics frozen. Eventually Samantha sagged to her knees exhausted. Tears came to her eyes. This is something she didn't want. She never meant to hurt anyone like she had been hurt by John. Standing up in the street she survey the damage. Samantha knew she'd have to make up for this. Obviously Anchorage had its' problems, and maybe she could help that. Nearby was a costume shop with its' window shattered. In the window front was a blue and white costume. Feeling a need to disguise herself, Samantha put the costume on. It felt good, and in the first time in quite awhile, Samantha started to feel warm again. Maybe, just maybe this would be a good idea. It was a few days later that a new super-heroine calling herself Alaska made the front page of the Anchorage Daily News, which was quickly picked up by newspapers in the southern states as well. No one knows who the ice wielding heroine is, but she is certainly making her prescence known to the criminal element in the State of Alaska. Legatus
Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I like her story, but the end is not very convincing. Why would she stay in Anchorage? A city that she ended up in by mere coincidence. Why is she not hunting the man who betrayed her? What happened to her cold, cold heart?
