Major Tom 2009
Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine And of course, no science fiction setting is complete without a mad scientist. Doctor Asa Busiris is an homage to Alastair Reynolds' Dr. Trintignant, one of the greatest "evil doctors" ever written. Busiris' experimental subjects have acquired the ability to function on Titan worlds; breathing methane at cryogenic temperatures. They've also acquired "that innsmouth look" in the process. The doctor himself is still mostly human. Edited to add: He will be played by Tom Waits when the movie comes out. This guy reminds me of a similar character that I saw in a pic that was on the Transfur website years ago. The idea behind the pic (from what I could tell) was that this mad scientist and his werewolf minion had captured Abby Chase (a comic-book heroine, IIRC), had her strapped to a lab table, and had injected her with some formula that was turning her into a cat-girl (much to the delight of the werewolf, if the look on his face was anything to go by). Major Tom 2009
Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I got these back from The Arc not too long ago (thanks again); they're two of FutureTech's more colorful employees -- Dr. Baldemar Hirsch and Desiree Fortier: Dr. Hirsch is the head of the Security Technologies division, which has the job of coming up with new and improved security systems for either business or home use; he cultivates the image of being a mad scientist for his personal amusement (his colleagues, on the other hand, are pretty sure that he is a mad scientist). His most famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) is the ElectroPus Home Security Bot; this is basically a harmless-looking box which is suspended from a ceiling on a series of tracks. It's when an intruder is detected that the "box" reveals its secret: a number of metallic tentacles that drop down and wrap themselves around the intruder, at which time they conduct a multi-thousand volt electrical charge into said intruder, stunning him or her into in- sensibility. Ms. Fortier is the head of the Adult subdivision of the Home Entertainment Technologies division, and has been described as being "sexy in a mousy sort of way".
