Pattern Ghost
Re: Mind Slayer I think they got it pretty right this time. Of course, there were pages of rants about her costume on their boards, but I've stopped reading those for the most part b/c the signal to stupid ratio is pretty high. caris
Re: Mind Slayer BTW it appears from Mind Slayer's history blurb that PSI is still up and running as an organization in the Cryptic-ordered Champions Universe' date=' not broken as described in [i']Champions Universe: News Of The World[/i]. If true, my condolences to Darren and Steve for the reversal, but I for one approve. Thread drift warning - Makes me wonder if there might be other changes forced on to the PnP setting that change/reverse previously held policies for the Champions Universe. Of course, I could have seen Steve putting certain explicit terms in the contract to keep a certain legion of characters out of the CU. Scott Heine
Re: Mind Slayer Scott Heine's "goth/punk" look for the character' date=' with a cigarette dangling from her hand, really defined Mind Slayer's personality IMHO. He essentially kept it for his updated picture of her in [i']Conquerors, Killers, And Crooks[/i]. And speaking of the redoubtable Mr. Heine: Looks like he gets his wish. I'd love to hear Scott's opinion of the Cryptic version (hint, hint). When I updated Mind Slayer for Mind Games, I was essentially thinking of her as a purely homicidal threat with a stone-cold heart. Plain and simple: she's messed up. And a run-in with her during an adventure can very well result in someone being dead before it's over. I really like the new write-up of Mind Slayer for the MMO. The text flows well, and the story captures a lot of what I had in mind. As for the visual of her, a lot has already been said over at the CO boards about the objectification of women in the comics and I doubt I could add much to that discussion. Personally, I always wince a bit whenever an artist crosses the line between rendering the human form and rendering in such a way that it feels unnecessarily sensual and even pornographic (anyone else remember the wave of nipples in the X-Men for a while?). That being said, I think the artist for the MMO design kept it tasteful despite a very revealing costume design. Does the new look fit the character? It certainly does as far as Cryptic is concerned, because this is the new Mind Slayer. Do I like it? Well, I like the idea that she is so overly self-confident and brazen that she would walk around that way in public as if she's almost daring a guy to take a second look. I kinda prefer the more gothic/punk design with black hair simply because that's the way I've always pictured teh character. But this new one is kinda cool. But the real truth is that I'm just thrilled to see the character brought into the game. And I'm excited at the idea of meeting the rest of PSI. (I'm eager to see if they've done something with the idea of Inquisitor!) There's something really personally gratifying to watch any of my creations evolve like that. It's why I always get a kick when someone sends me a story about how they used the Protectors or PSI or whatever in one of their games. I think that's a hoot! Hey, I'm as eager to play this game as the rest of you. This is gonna be an absolute BLAST!

Anyone who thinks she is too much like Psylocke must forget that Psylocke has telepathic powers and Mind Slayer has TK. Psylocke actually has TK powers the last I knew (unless she's reverted back to being a Teep in Exiles). When she "came back from the dead" (tm Marvel Comics), her power array had switched over and she could make a TK Sword.

Steve Long
Re: Mind Slayer My players would rather fight Dr. Destroyer in their pajamas than Stacy. Well, yeah -- if Dr. Destroyer were in my pajamas, I'd want to fight him, too. Not only is he ticking me off by stealing my pajamas, they have a lot less built in weaponry and defensiveness than that armor of his. I'd kick his ass! Looks like she traded her psychic knife in for a telekinetic katana. Hmm Yup, after she died in Extreme X-Men, she was brought back because Claremont likes his women mutants When she did, she lost her Teep abilities and became a TK user ... though that could've changed now that she's in Exiles.
