How would you model a Final fantasy-style tehcnofantasy?

Recommended Posts

How would you guys try to recreate the Final fantasy VII style of tehcnofantasy game (where the character start out somewhat above average and, as they adventure, become world-shakingly powerful).

besides, I'm wondering how you can possibly carry around that whopping great sword without attracting all kinds of unwelcome attention....

Well, most Computer and Console based RPG's are based on the D&D archetype, which means most are level-based and have the characters start off pretty weak, but become powerful enough to routinely slay gods.

A good way to simulate these "jumps" in power (effectively representing the level increase of the games) is by doubling or Trippling the amount of experience points handed out per adventure, but make sure that you hand out experience points less often (not after every game session, which is the standard of many gaming groups). Also take into account that these games are oftentimes world-spanning epics, which means they are going from "1st level" to "50th level" over a long period of time.

I have played in a Hero game that was Final Fantasy inspired. It ran fairly smoothly and didn't really require all that much adjustment of the system to get the feel down. Of course, the individuals playing in the game all understood the genre (to various degrees) so that may have helped matters somewhat.

Were you planning on including Materia in this game? We've had a couple of topics in the past on simulating FFVII Materia system...
