ghost-angel
Re: Traveller HERO: end is approaching Hmm... I've not read a lot of that sort of manga... To make such a thing work' date=' you'd want to recruit a serious fan of Leji Mas... Masa... the guy who created Captain Harlock and company. I mean, to me, a "manga Star Hero" setting means [i']Macross, Space Battleship Yamoto, Gundam, Star Blazers, Voltron, Robotech, Captain Harlock[/i], and so on. The best I can do is Outlaw Star, Outlanders, and Planetes. Don't forget Sol Bianca - there's a universe BEGGING to be explored, especially the one hinted at in The Legacy. ghost-angel
Re: Traveller HERO: end is approaching The Legacy 6 Ep. OAV was definitely the best of all of them. It's worth checking into.

The best I can do is Outlaw Star, Outlanders, and Planetes. Matsumoto. Leiji Matsumoto. You probably know that Star Blazers is the Americanized version of Space Battleship Yamato -- same basic story, cleaned up for the American audience. Yamato was actually controversial when it came out, as Matsumoto was accused of glorifying the Japanese war machine of the '30s and '40s. The producers had to scramble for replacement music in the third episode when they had used the Imperial Naval March -- which is outlawed in modern Japan -- during the depiction of the historical Yamato's final suicide mission. In the original, the starship was literally built around the frame of the sunken battleship; Matsumoto was never big on literal realism and was fond of devices like railroads across the stars (the classic Galaxy Express 999, a transhumanist story long before there was such a genre as transhumanism, was built around such a plot device). Cowboy Bebop is some great Star Hero action, set in the solar system. No, in a solar system that sounds like outs.... Outlaw Star is what you get when the GM wants play Shadowrun in space. It's the setting with darn near everything.

Polaris
Re: Traveller HERO: end is approaching Just to clarify to everyone that might be wondering... We are not in violation of licensing with Traveller here. Bookstores and gamestores had purchased copies of the books (as did some collectors... I actually purchased a number of copies over the period the books were available). These stores have the right to sell the books they had previously purchased... ComStar can't sell copies of the books, but the stores obviously can. Don't know if anyone was wondering... but in case you were, now you know...
