The Spell of Silence

 

With this spell, the wizard suppresses all sound in a 3" radius. The caster can, if he chooses, cast this spell so that it is focused on a single creature other than himself. In such a case, the area is mobile with the creature. A wizard upon whom this spell has been cast will not be able to cast most spells.

This spell, a variant of The Spell of Silence, alters the sounds created within its area of effect to match the volume and types of sounds already present in the area. The sounds of wind, a passing wagon, dripping water, a barking dog, or whatever other ambient noise appropriate to the location is heard instead of whatever appropriate noise might be present. Because the area isn't silenced, spells can be cast and conversations carried out as long as the individuals involved are inside the area of effect.

Baneblade

 

When this spell is cast upon a weapon, that weapon becomes magically attuned to a single being named by the wizard during casting. When in combat with that being, the weapon's potency increases, allowing its wielder greater ability in combat against this single foe.

 

The foe must be a specific being (i.e., the spell can be made to work "Against Hrothgar Bloodaxe, Son of Ulth Grayspear of the Elk Tribe of the Chayk", not "Against any Chayk warrior I happen to meet"). The bonuses gained through this spell do not apply to combat with other beings, even if the wielder of the enchanted weapon is fighting a second opponent along with the named enemy.

 

The spell ends after a month if the wielder of the weapon has not entered combat with the named enemy in that time. Despite the spell's name, any type of hand weapon can be enchanted using this magic.

This spell allows the caster to completely dissipate entire weather systems from horizon to horizon, creating clear, calm skies. The spell doesn't alter the temperature... it merely clears a cloudy or stormy day. Casting this spell is very taxing on the wizard, and he must rest for the day following.

Bano's Bolt of Power

 

With this spell, the caster projects a roaring bolt of silvery arcane energy that blasts forth at high speed from the caster's pointed finger. The bolt rushes unerringly at the target in a perfectly straight line; smaller, flimsier objects in the bolt's path will have holes blasted through them if they are not utterly destroyed. Larger, heavier objects can block the bolt, but still tend to become pock-marked as the bolt impacts them. Naturally, any creature caught in the path of the bolt is likewise damaged.

This spell allows the character to create a second self on the Astral Plane that leaves the body and can travel and act on its own. While the Astral Form exists, the character's physical body is effectively comatose. Because the two forms are aspects of the same being, any damage done to one body is also suffered by the other.

Bano's Final Act

 

When this spell is cast, the wizard brings to bear the totality of his power and experience as a spell-caster and releases it with a single word. All of that power then bursts out in a cataclysmic explosion that damages everything around the spot the caster was standing. The caster himself is utterly vaporized by the power released by this spell.

 

This spell was created by the Archmage Bano of Tarn, who originally called it "Word of Vengeance". Bano himself used his dying breath to cast this spell at the end of his disastrous fight with the great dragon Vermithoregarth. The dragon was killed in the explosion, just as Bano had planned. The spell's current name caught on shortly thereafter.

In addition to the mere presence of magic, the Magical Revelation also can determine how many different magical effects are in operation at a given location, what type of magic is involved (including the specific spells used, if any), and how long the magic has been in operation.

This spell instantly transforms the clothing the caster is currently wearing into any other clothing the caster can imagine. The material that makes up the clothing can be changed as the caster wishes, though there are limits to how far the materials may be altered. Specifically, the spell cannot produce animal fur or any form of armor. The spell has one interesting side effect: the caster's clothing are mystically cleaned and freshened with the transformation, regardless of how dirty or odiferous they were prior to the casting of the spell.

Battlemist

 

This spell creates a cloud of choking, poisonous fog. The cloud is heavier than air, and will sink to the ground when it appears. Thus, creatures who are larger than man-sized, as well as creatures who are elevated in some way (at the top of a staircase, standing in a wagon-bed, on a balcony, flying, etc.) are all safe from the cloud's effects. The cloud is easily dispersed by rain or wind.

Bilgahan's Double Teleport

 

This spell allows the caster to instantly change places with another creature. The creature must be within range of the spell to be teleported to the caster's location. The teleports occur suddenly and without warning, and can lead to missed weapon attacks or an enemy striking one of his compatriots. If a creature is teleported during spell-casting or some other delicate task, that action is foiled; the attack misses, the spell is disrupted, etc. In some cases (such as planning to begin a swing of a weapon that will end on an opponent's head after the teleport, for example), the GM may allow an exception to this rule, if a Teamwork roll is made.

With this spell, the caster launches a bolt of crackling, night-black lightning at the target creature. Despite its appearance, the lightning is not actually electricity but rather is pure necromantic magic. This spell requires that the wizard physically contact the intended target. Upon touching the victim, the wizard's magic causes a bleeding wound to open on the victim's body. The victim continues to suffer damage after the initial wound until a day passes or until healing magic has been applied.

Bleeding Wounds

 

This spell causes any wounds that exist on the subject to begin bleeding profusely for as long as the caster continues concentrating on (that is, paying Endurance for) the spell. It is possible for the creature to bleed out completely and thus die while under this spell. In game terms, this spell can only affect creatures who are already suffering BODY damage. The spell is immediately ended when the caster stops paying Endurance, or when healing magic is applied to the target creature. Mundane healing methods are useless for stopping this spell.
