Platyputz

Arnold K. Vossman was one of the founding members of the Battalion, though they have since done pretty much everything possible since to forget that. He was supposed to be "The Platypus", but the newspapers were somewhat more than unkind.

His abilities weren't terrible. Arnold's suit gave him sonar, underwater propulsion, enhanced strength and speed and, in a slightly dark aspect for the 1960s, poison injectors (though why exactly he decided to follow the actual Platypus and put them on the backs of his ankles is an ongoing mystery).

The problem was, Arnold was not built for crime. He weighed almost 250Kg, and little of it was muscle. He was capable of waddling slowly towards his targets, and he never once managed to bring his "spurs" to bear on an enemy. Twice he was caught because he literally couldn't fit through the escape route. He was only tolerated because he really was pretty smart - he planned well. But in the end, Ren the Space Weasel and She-Wolf stripped him of his suit and left his overweight, naked ass on a street corner and called the FBI - and this time they wouldn't be breaking him out.

Arnold's story does not have a happy ending. He was released from prison early in 1978 for medical reasons, and within six months his heart had given out. He was buried in a pauper's grave; nobody came to the burial.

Wan

Wan was a dog based alien from the planet whose name translates as "Bark". He joined the group during the 60's; has high physical strength and has his Dog Star Gun (which really didn't have a direct attack mode...it was basically a tractor beam projectile).

Wan was a member on and off. Eventually during the 90's his race decided to invade the Earth. He sacrificed his life to defend the Earth from his own people.

One of the most feared members of the group was Skunk !

The Battalion has had someone using the moniker since 1971 although there have been different people using the name. They have been men or women so some have been like Pepe Le Pew or the cat he used to chase. And the spray that is unleashed can paralyse or stun. No-one in the team gets on the bad side of Skunk ! for the obvious reasons.

The women would be a bit seductive against male opponents while only one of the men ever was seductive towards women opponents.

Only one was ever kicked out and that was for spraying his team mates as the heroes managed to manoeuvre them into position. This led to Ren almost getting captured which is one thing he cannot abide.

The current member is male and looks quite young so he plays on the lost little boy trope.

Silver Butterfly

Silver Butterfly was born Anna Jane Coleman, and was clearly a mutant from her birth. Her glittering, silver wings didn't give her especially swift flight, but she was stable and very reliable in the air and could maintain her flight all day.

Anna's family loved and supported her, but the rest of the community was caught up in the anti-mutant hysteria of the early 1970s. She and her family were hounded out of her home and burned out of the temporary housing the state reluctantly provided. Anna's life was made a living hell any time she tried to go to school. Finally, when she was twelve, a maddened mob tried to lynch her and her family.

It was unfortunate for the mob that her solar energy powers manifested under the stress.

Over a hundred people burned to death, hundreds more were horribly burned. Anna showed no mercy, setting the entire slum her family had been forced into ablaze and attacking anyone who tried to help, including firefighters and police. Her heat and light effects weren't all that powerful, but were very broad-beam, and thus unavoidable by normal humans. Only when local supers showed up did she finally fly away.

Later that day she was contacted by the group. She stayed with them for almost five years, making sure her family was safe by staying well away from them. In the end, they parted ways amicably - Ren the Space Weasel and company found her too bloodthirsty, and she'd found a group that appreciated her for herself and provided the stability she longed for - Viper's Dragon Branch. She's been a stalwart member of the organization ever since.

The Black Badger

THE Black Badger is a mutant with claws, a strong regeneration ability, lots of pockets and lots of guns. He is grim, gritty, and so full of 90's that he went out of style just before the decade was over.

He was captured by the law in 96 and sentenced to death. Rumored that he still waiting on death row in a high security prison, having him tried to have that sentence carried out many times.

Rumor has it that Ren never truly liked the little burger.

Why on earth would Ren the Space Weasel not like The Black Badger ?

Well it was about this time that Ren had his infamous run in with Kid Claw. So

Perhaps the most ill fated of the Battalion's members are the ones who were called Mountain Lion, Puma or Cougar. For some reason certain law enforcement officials believe that it gives them a licence to shoot them dead or use deadly force as also happened to anyone called Coyote. While it is true She-Wolf has been shot at, it was more true of the others. Indeed one man Grant Lawson used a hunting rifle to shoot dead Mountain Lion 2, the original Puma and Cougars 1 through 3. The team did not bring a stop to this the rest of the Underworld did. The bogeyman known as The Doomwarden was sent to teach the practitioners of law enforcement that the rules applied to them as well as criminals. Lawson's body was found in White Mountain National Forest his head rammed into a tree 20 feet above the ground.

The current nameholder is Cougar 7 (what can I say the police are slow learners) who is the current leader as Ren is with another team and She-Wolf is out of the picture. She tends to keep things old school as it's usually teen heroes who fight them and killing kids is bad for business. There are no new Kid Claw's which kind of helps. Cougar maintains that Indian Witchdoctors cursed her family and that is why she can become a cougar.

We have now reached a minimum so if someone wants to do a new team go ahead.

Man-Bison

A member of the team since the mid 70s his participation depends on whether he has been arrested and how long a prison sentence he would serve. A brick he can also run at opponents but he rarely hits as they are usually agile enough to avoid him. It took until 1999 to reach three strikes and mandatory life imprisonment. However he has been released or took part in prison escapes since then. He appears to have some form of longevity which means he is not worried about his career coming to an end.

He was also shot by Grant Lawson but was unaffected.

Miss Murder

Despite her name, Miss Murder has never killed anyone.  Instead she gets her name from her power to turn into her body weight in 45 mentally linked crows.  She's not much of a fighter, her criminal career having focussed on using her alternate forms to act as lookouts, spies and jewelry thieves.  When she was with the team her participation tended to involve advance scouting, and covering the team's retreats as a cloud of crows that screened the others as they made their escapes.  She moved on to an independent career as surveillance for high for anyone who was willing to pay her rates.  Her costume in human form is goth fashion-inspired and makes prominent use of crow feathers.

Mangoose

Herbert Nyquist's father was a minor villain known as The Conundrum who operated in the 70s. Initially Herbert attempted to follow in his father's footsteps as The Son of Conundrum. He found little success and was handed a particularly humiliating defeat by Teen Brigade member Kid Cobra. While in prison he plotted revenge and also met Tom Gimble aka Black Bear II. Upon his release he used a reference from Gimble to join the WFB. He crafted a fur covered claw and fang equipped suit and dubbed himself the...Mangoose. This named caused a bit of confusion as allies and enemies alike assumed he would look and fight like a goose. He shrugged this off and looked to get his revenge against Kid Cobra. He failed again and again through the mid to late 80s and wasn't valued much by the team. He hung up his suit for a few years, but in 1994 he was convinced by Black Bear II to pull one last heist. Unfortunately this brought them into contact with the hyper violent anti-hero Bloodlash who put an end to both villains careers and lives.

People do know that since we have reached the minimum that they can pick a new team ?

Moose

There are some names that have not been used by the Battalion like Bald Eagle as it was heroic and then became a member of Visgoth's Enforcers or Raccoon who was ex-Viper. Then there are those who perhaps should not have been used like Moose. Big, stupid and had horns. But the team needed numbers and so Moose was inducted. This was in the late 70s. It was one thing for the heroes to stop Moose but then Ren would run rings around them and escape with gems or whatever the team was after. Moose was caught and imprisoned but got out of prison. though how is anyone's guess. He died suddenly and it was written off as 'natural causes'. However as he was in California during The American Patriot's reign of terror some  people believe that the 'psychotic' hero tracked him down and killed him.

Pine Marten

She Wolf really regrets allowing Pine Marten in. After Kid Claw almost butchered Ren, they needed a speedster or elusive type and he fitted this well. He was also out for himself and fled with the proceeds of a robbery whilst also leaving the team to cope with heroes and Law Enforcement. Sadly wile Law Enforcement operates under the rules of jurisdiction, assassins do not. So instead of soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the quiet life without the threat of extradition, Pine Marten was killed and skinned as a reminder to those in the Underworld that betrayal does not pay.

Alright...

How about "The ThinkBank", a team of at least 5 wealthy genius types who, bored with their endless charity fundraisers and thinking that they could do a better job of saving the world if only they were running everything, devote their genius, and cash, toward attempting the thrilling business of total global domination together?

After Donald Trump became President, Wayne Castle thought if he can do it why not me ? So Wayne looked at what he could achieve with his know how and what people were doing. He noticed the increased reliance of information technology and what you could do with a few 1s and 0s in the wrong place. Thus was born the villainous career of Software Slump. Some mistake him for a hacker which is not really true. He gets into a system and then corrupts it. The cure will cost money. When forced to fight he is skilled in martial arts and has a padded costume with several masks in order to really confuse people with his identity.

Mister Reginald Wicked  comes from a long line of southern rich gentleman. They made their money off of slavery. He continues his family's business, running illegal slavery pens and a side snuff film business as Mr. Wicked .  While he has his own organization, he joined The ThinkBank to network with other rich criminal types, and to start to diversify his business to other crimes.

He is also planning to give his empire of sin to his sister Milinda Wicked , who he originally planned to wed and rape till she produced another generation of Wicked. Somehow, he grew to respect his half-sister as he watched her grow into womanhood.

He  is a skilled martial artist (Savate), and wields weapons designed to look like what a Victorian gentleman would carry.

The world knows Jackdaw - or Jack Daw - as one of those bizarre theme villains, only a little more coherent than the likes of Foxbat.

He orchestrates overly complex bird-themed crimes, throughout Europe and the broader Westernized world, with grandiose goals that could never work even if they were carried through. As it stands, he has inflicted a lot of collateral damage - though no direct deaths - and driven up insurance rates wherever he operates.  So heroes & law enforcement begrudgingly take him seriously.

Jackdaw wears a high-tech battlesuit that looks like an all-black reject from Battle of the Planets, including a beaklike visor and feathered cape that actually let's him fly.  He uses some sort of bowdlerized 'martial arts' - mostly judo with hints of wushu when pressed - but primarily depends on gadgets and a huge flock of trained and/or robotic birds (generally raven-sized in spite of his name).  He stands over 6' and speaks with an exageratedly cultured old-fashioned "mid-Atlantic" accent.  He never betrays anger or fear, but affects boredom or amusement, instead.  He has been foiled every time, defeated many, but never captured.

Jackdaw often fights as a member of ThinkBank, but he is generally considered a dupe or hireling.

Spoiler

In reality he is a genius billionaire like the others, and his bird-themed crimes' "collateral damages" are actually their intended targets.  It's all an act to distance his villain persona from his secret ID, a Chineses tech/media mogul who is always accompanied by bodyguards, translators, and - via well-trained body-doubles and/or Android duplicates - is often alabied on the other side of the world while Jackdaw is making his comical mischief.

Red Rain is undoubtedly the most psychotic of the ThinkBank. This is despite his motives probably being the purest - he wants to ensure sane, corporate management of the world to protect the environment and make pollution unprofitable. His methodology is to demonstrate the dangers - graphically. He sprays acid on crowds, poisons water supplies and generally acts as brutally as possible to show people the results of the current regime.

From India comes Raja who is the brick of the team. He looks like a being from Indian myths except he has the normal number of arms, legs, heads, eyes and everything else. This is the one member of the team most likely to be captured or taken down only for him to vanish in a puff of smoke. The reason for this is quite simple. Raja is a projection and not a real being. The Indian tech mogul Arjun Khatri can call forth this being to aid his colleagues while simultaneously doing something else like a boardroom takeover. Raja has helped the team immensely as he conforms to what people expect from a villain group. Consequently law enforcement are looking for five villains of differing abilities not five very intelligent rich men looking to exploit the world.

Arjun works with Jackdaw as he fears an attack on Asia targeting the large population.

New Team: The Thieves Council

This was a group of skilled thieves who operated mainly in the United States but they targeted anyone with wealth or whatever they wanted especially if it was unique. It is one thing to rob a bank or museum but knocking off a drug bank or a Mafia's numbers house will make people who do not have to obey the rule of law very angry. However attempts to kill or capture them failed. Eventually they sent for a specialist. enter Henry Cranham. Henry set the Council up without them realising that they were being set up. In the Frobisher building the council walked into a trap and that was the end of them effectively as a group. No-one was killed and the members to this day have no idea what went wrong and how i.e. They don't know Henry Cranham was brought in to stop them.

Your mission should you choose to accept it is to detail one of the Thieves Council

There are a minimum of five and a maximum of ten

They can be men or women of any ethnic mix.

What happened to them during or after the raid. Before is not that essential but if you want to go for it.

Their role in the group would be helpful i.e. intelligence gathering, brute work, security etc

Any flaw that the group might believe contributed to their downfall i.e. overconfidence, womanising, gambling, drug addiction

Not all of the team had to have taken part in the raid and what happened is up to you

PLEASE NOTE: A rampantly psychotic thief who went around mowing people down would have been public enemy number one with law enforcement and they would have been taken down very quickly indeed.

Yeggman

Nic Shaw was the expert safecracker for the Council. He was naturally tasked with opening a vault on the Frobisher job. Upon arrival things immediately went wrong when Shaw realized the information on the vault was incorrect and he didn't have the right tools for the job. This was courtesy of misinformation supplied by Cranham. Shaw was furious with the mistake, but carried on like a pro believing that with his skills he could still do the job. Unfortunately for him Cranham had sabotaged his equipment as well. When Shaw tried to set explosive charges they went off prematurely managling his hands and severely injuring the left side of his face. In the fallout of the trap set by Cranham he was arrested. Upon his release Shaw was angry and bitter blaming the Council for it's mistakenly precieved incompetence. Desperate to return to the "game" he contacted the Technomancer. His damaged hands and left eye were replaced with cybernetics. While he has lost his fine touch he now uses raw strength and a vibration attack to break into safes and vaults. He operates for the Technomancer's Network as Crackerjack leaving that terrible day at the Forbisher building behind him.

Jenny Faceless

Jenny d'Aventura was the team's casing expert. She would go in days or even weeks before the mission, confirm other intelligence and gather data, like floor layouts, guard patrol schemes, internal security. Occasionally she would also get small items she could smuggle out, like key cards, but that was rare. As a result, she was almost never on scene for the actual robberies. She accomplished these with a powerful capacity to disguise herself and to take on roles with basically zero prep time.

Cranham got to her with her one weakness, her cocaine addiction. He replaced her usual dealer, and slowly amped up the purity of the drug she bought - until she was flying high as a kite while trying to do the Frobisher building. She missed the clues that should have sent her running, and for the first time she gave the Council bad data.

Jenny was blamed by many on the Council when things went south, particularly when she got a suspended sentence in exchange for checking into drug rehab. Once clean, she disappeared, and hasn't been seen or heard of since.

Factotum

The Council employed Fritz Walsh as he was a brick and could carry a lot of things around. He was the do anything guy so they gave him the name Factotum. He really relished the jobs not when they were robbing banks or museums but were doing dangerous stuff like robbing the military or members of the Underworld. Even stealing from a Mega Villain was a thrill for him as it showed they were not afraid of anyone and the 'rules' did not apply to them. Of course they were careful as mindless slaughter would bring the police down on them like a ton of bricks even if they iced criminals. Fritz never bothered to think what the people they robbed would do, after all contracts on their lives had fallen down flatly and the others were not concerned either.

Fritz could be easily distracted by anything Oriental so seeing a Chinese woman and a Japanese woman at the same time made him lose focus. Long enough for Henry Cranham to sabotage Nic Shaw's tools and the explosives. See Fritz looked after the materials before and after the job and who would tangle with him ? Right ?

Fritz was looking forward to the Frobisher job. Not all the details were clear (that would have been a trap, clearly) but the prize would be worth it and they could easily improvise their way out. When Yeggman's tools would not work and the explosives went off prematurely, Fritz was sent to clear the way and ran right into police and heroes. They had not triggered any alarms so what they hey ? Fritz went tried breaking out through a window only to find it was toughened plastic. It should have been glass. He studied the specs and confirmed things. Evidently the heroes did not know it was not glass either but they made up for things by repeatedly knocking him into it until he passed out as he would not give up peacefully.

Now in prison Fritz is wondering whether is was all Jenny Faceless's fault. He has doubts. What did he miss ? Did the 'Romeo' on the team give details away to their girlfriend ? Did their motormouth friend brag too much about what the group was going to do next ? Or did one of the other's sell the rest out, steal the stuff, sell it and is even now enjoying banana daquiris in the Bahamas ?

Fritz would be gutted if he knew his moment of weakness led to Yeggman's injuries

(Dark Damsel and Crimson Raven of the ill named 'Harem', Cranham's bodyguards, just had to smile at Walsh. Simple yet effective. And poor Fritz even if he saw them again he would not put two and two together)

If anyone wants a link to the Harem and Cranham's first appearance I'll post it but ask first.

Omni. Omni is a man who prides himself as a gentleman thief. He styles himself after the original Lupin. He has a few special equipment stolen along the way. He wields the monicol, once wielded by the golden age superthietf The Monicol. This weapon allows him to create an tractor beam able to move items from a distance. His cane has various type of gas pellets inside it. And...that is it.

He was on the way to pick up more 'weapons' when whatever happened to him happened. Nobody knew what happened to his stuff.

Fascino

Tomaso Bianci has low level psionic ability to emotionally manipulate targets. However it is only ever worked on females. Thus he was used by the Council to charm his way into a victim's heart to gain information, access, for blackmail etc. On this job his assignment was to charm an executive working in the Forbisher building to gain access to the floor housing the security monitoring. Weeks leading up the the assignment he began a relationship with a new girlfriend while also getting close to the target. Unbeknownst to Bianci both of these woman were new members of Cranham's Harem, the sisters Harmony and Discord. Harmony, portraying his girlfriend used her own emotion control powers to counter his and charm him to give her details of the heist. Meanwhile Discord sowed the seeds of paranoia into his mind with her own mental gifts which caused him to abandon his team right before the job. He has never fully recovered and to this day lives as a recluse fearing repercussions from his past.

Charles Edgeworth is a shapechanger and could mimic people to a degree. The Council often used him to impersonate someone in a target's organisation and make it look like they were a hostage, tied up and with a gag in their mouth. He could not do voices very well but he could do their fingerprints and eye patterns. Memories ? No.  He was often called Champagne Charlie by his colleagues. He did back up security work and shadowed Jenny Faceless and Yeggman. However he had a weakness for getting too involved in undercover work and losing himself in the part.

During the raid he almost got away (the others think he did) but he was nabbed by the CIA and is being held incommunicado. So no more banana daquiris for him.

We are over the minimum so people can now post a new team

Hardball

Even thieves need a strong-arm man now and again. O-Jin Hua had the build and the muscle to make threats when needed, and the skills to back them up when threats didn't suffice. He was not, however, a loose cannon - Hardball believed in the swift and precise use of force to resolve a problem, no more, no less.

Hardball didn't expect to be a strong asset on the Frobisher job, it was more of a case and stealth task, so he'd probably just wind up carrying Yeggman's tools. He was the first member of the team to know something was wrong, when a stealthy police tactical team caught him on the lobby. He also didn't know that Cranham had twice attempted to have him seduced - O-Jin Hua, though seriously in the closet, is gay.
