Britain has a tradition of people who are good sailors. The Spanish however have another name for such people Pirates. Particularly as some were granted letters of marque to go after their vessels as licenced privateers. Such is the case with Robert D'Ascoyne otherwise known as The Burgundy Bucaneer. Like his predecessors Bartholamew Roberts in particular, Robert is a gentleman and enforces a code with those he commands and he operates with. Such as no harming women and children. However those who are in uniform or act as spies will not be treated with the same curtesy. This includes women.

Robert dresses in fancy clothes with coats of a shade of burgundy and has a number of vessels of old and new primarily based on the water although there is something to be said for attacking a coach or lorry on land with cutlass in hand at speed.

Edward MacDonald seeking revenge for a massacre of his clan by another called down the powers that be. MacDonald became known as the Black Tartan, forced to walk the Earth until the last known member of his enemy clan has been wiped out.

AARES Legion:  AARES stands for Advanced Armored Recombinant Enhancement System.  The system is a collection of artificially intelligent nanite computers whose sole function is to upgrade and enhance mutations, no matter how slight.  In addition, the system has an external armor component that is designed for strategic combat enhancement.

Members:

Bastille: The leader of the AARES Legion.  He wears the most advanced form of AARES, the AARES X.  Bastille is a mutant with sound manipulation.  HIs AARES system enhances this mutation and the external component amplifies ambient sound around him to fuel his abilities.  In addition, the suit has an array of offensive and defensive capabilities.

Brigade:  A stealthy assassin before joining the Legion, a deadly killing machine after.  Brigade had a prenatural ability to hide in shadows and stalk his targets.  The AARES he wears enhances that to near perfect invisibility and stealth.  Additionally, the external system can produce a number of hand held weapons fitting the job at hand such as his Guisare (sp).  The external armor also allows him to carry a variety of specialized weapons such as smoke grenades, knock out gas, and concusive grenades.

Bastian:  A mutant with wings to fly and a metabolism to match.  He was the first of Bastille's success stories with the AARES system.  His AARES enhances his mutant metabolism, allowing him to project bolts of bio-energy from his fingertips.  His wings now contain hidden nanite stores which can form into sharp, exploding "feathers".  In addition, the external component enhances his eyesight, hearing, and general awareness.

 

Mother Mayhem:  She is the odd ball out.  Not named after any military unit, she is the tactical and mechanical advisor to Bastille.  She is an old lady (60s) with an extreme knowledge of mechanics, electronics, computers, artificial intelligence, and robotics.  It was with her help that Bastille was able to create AARES.  The nanites do not increase any mutation in her.  Instead, they grant her the vitality of a 20 year old and longevity by repairing failing cells.  She does wear a version of the AARES external component, however.  This gives her an armored exterior while still looking like normal "old lady" clothing.  Additionally, Mother Mayhem uses a versatile cannon of her own creation.  This cannon can create bolts of force energy, entangle through a sticky glue substance, fire explosive rockets, or act as a paralysis gun.  She often times hangs around areas where the Legion is active, pretending to be a bag lady or other such type... when the fight goes bad for the Legion, she simply pulls her cannon out of the shopping cart of garbage and... well, heroes just beware...

The Great White Hunter

 

Martin Blashford Snell always abided by the credo, 'if it moves it can be shot' and so went a hunting. This went against the interests and protests of PETA, the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Dogs, cats, mice, sheep, cattle, pigs, horses, monkeys, herring, stickleback, pigeons, sea gulls, jellyfish, sea anenomes, plankton, dolphins, basking sharks, marlin, tuna, salmon, trout, great white sharks, penguins, tortoises, seals, foxes, badgers, deer, faeries, leprachauns, Australians, spiders, slus, snails, worms, lions, tigers, water buffalo, zebra, crocodiles, anacondas, pythons, cobras, leopards, cheetahs, antelope, alligaters, rhinoes, hippoes, giraffe, gorillas, hyaena, coyotes, grizzly bears, black bears, camels, wolves and rats have all been shot by him. The smaller the target, the smaller calibre gun he has used. After hunting some of these species and getting aggrviation from some people about it he turned his guns on the most dangerous prey of all:- English Football (soccer) hooligans which no-one really seemed to mind at all. From there it was a small jump to taking on the most elite of prey members of the Russian Spetnatz, the French Foreign Legion, Japanese Samurai,  and the United States Marine Corps. After that he began hunting paranormals. Heroes and villains are liable to find themselves being hunted by Martin who will find some form of gun to go after them with it. Someone is supplying him with the technology to do it.

The others in the team can find his enthusiasm for hunting a bit off as it has been used against him. After all who has not wanted to hunt an alien being or a dinosaur ?

And he has been known to let his opponent go. If the chase has been good.

The missionary

In 1872 the Reverend Paul Oliver Sitton embarked on a mission to the deepest jungles of Africa to spread the Lord's messages to the heathens. When he arrived at his post in Rhodesia he learnt about a tribe in the interior who had never been contacted by civilised white people and who worshipped a mysterious goddess who was supposed to grants eternal life.

 

Disgusted by these savages corrupt religion promising eternal life when it could only be reached through the true Anglican church; the reverend set off to locate these poor primitive heathens and bring them to God and the gifts of British civilisation. Rev. Sitton found the lost tribe but his attempts to sway them to the Lord's word failed especially when he discovered their goddess was real.

 

Rev Sitton became this heathen goddesses plaything kept in a cage deep in the subterranean magma pocket that had been carved into a palace temple by her worshipers. The reverend was kept to amuse her with his pleas sermons and exhortations of the greatness of empire. The goddess enjoyed him so much she allowed him to be passed through. The blue flames that granted her worshipers eternal life.

 

Then one day there was an explosion the volcanic vent that the blue flame sprang from erupted.
With his cage shattered and the temple collapsing the reverend Sutton fled into the night . left manic and disoriented by his uncountably long imprisonment he wandered in the wilderness.

 

He eventually would return to civilisation only to find the world fallen the most debauched entertainments and images everywhere the true church dying the most disturbing perversions openly displayed.

 

The missionary is on a mission to restore the true faith to this heathen future. He has been changed by the blue flame not only ageless but much stronger and resilient than before but his most potent weapon in his war against the heathens is his voice able to saw hundreds to his cause turning them into near mindless fanatics a mob of belivers for the faith.

Eventually his greed will consume him.

The Zakhvatchiki were smuggled into the Ukraine to help destabilize the region. The Zakhvatchiki would be deniable assets for the president in his efforts to reclaim as much as the Ukraine as possible. Those who survive will get shortened prison sentences...

Ivan borski was the toughest man in the Spetsnaz nothing fazed him he walked through the training like nothing he survived his deployments in chechnya and South Ossetia without so much as a splinter and then he quit. signed up with the Mafiya and started a reign of Terror in moscow.

Bagrovyy Khranitel' (Boleslaw Nechayev, Crimson Guardian) remembered the Old Days with fondness, often wishing he could return to them. But those days ended when the USSR broke apart and the last Soviet Super Proletarian suddenly found himself with nothing to fight for. Nechayev tried to work with the new government, but they were not willing to support any of the old Communist icons and tried to force him into retirement. Rather than face that humiliation Nechayev tried to organize a new Soviet Revolution before the democratic government could consolidate their power. He failed, and when he was put on trial for treason Nechayev became a rallying point for the anti-communist factions taking control of Russia. His show trial was dragged on for weeks before he was finally convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment until the end of his days.

 

Or, that should have been the end.

 

Nechayev cared little for politics, but during the past decade even he began hearing about the actions of Vladimir Putin. Now there was a man who remembered the Old Days. For a while Nechayev even tried to petition Putin for a pardon, although his lawyer doubted the former KGB director would care much about a washed up super soldier. And then the Man from the Kremlin visited him. It seemed that President Putin needed a team to carry out missions under the table, complete deniability and even obedience bombs in case anyone tried to defect. It was just like the Old Days.

 

Bagrovyy Khranitel' is the field commader of Zakhvatchiki, and if the mission doesn't kill them first he plans to reclaim all of the Ukraine for Russia. Despite being almost sixty age has barely slowed Nechayev down, although he has noticed he isn't as durable as he used to be. That's what the big red shield is for. However his reflexes, strength and speed are still superhuman and normal men can't hope to fight him in close quarter combat. If his mission is a success Nechayev has been promised a pardon, and an opportunity to reclaim for Soviet territory for Russia.

Pavel chernoknizhnik was born in 1916 in St petersburg under mysterious circumstances. found naked in the snow on the front step of an orphanage but seemingly in perfect health with no foot prints to reveal the person who had left him when the nuns who ran the orphanage lifted the baby they found a silver pendant inscribed with his name hung from his neck.

 

He grew up in the orphanage but was adopted by a kindly old man and his wife when he was 8 except that was an illusion. The man was not kindly and his "wife" wasn't even human, Pavel had been taken in by one of Russia's greatest occult masters who had prophesied greatness for him. he trained as an apprentice for the next decade tough terrifying and dangerous spellcraft travel around the world and to other realms.

 

It was a happy time in his life despite the rigorous training and the dangers of the occult but when he reached 18 tragedy would strike Pavel again. Stalin fearing the power of occultists might damage the communist  dispatched the ночной охотник(Night hunters) a special unit of the red army tasked with eliminating the occult threats to the nation.

 

his mentor died resisting them his home with all its magical relics and grimoires was destroyed and Pavel ended up in a Gulag in Siberia. He should have died their a skinny weak bookish child amongst the most dangerous men in Russia but that icey waste would be his crucible the danger the hostile environment forced pavel to master his art learning to cast spells in a place which barely had water let alone exotic ingredients honed his skills until he pretty much ran the place.

 

that was until  1941 with the true between russia and naxi germany broken and the Nazis advancing on Russia stalin found him self in trouble the Nazis Occult forces where ready to sweep down on his country which was no longer defended against them due to the purges all the great wizards of russia had fled or died there was only one option Pavel chernoknizhnik. He was released and set about assembling an ad hoc team of minor talents to oppose the might of the third reich and he did it using tactics like magical- commando raids and grand ritual weather workings. the Nazi sorcerers fell like their mundane comrades.

 

   After the war Pavel now Stalin's Golden boy was assigned to acquire any useful powerful or valuable mystic artifacts that the nazis had looted from the rest of Europe up against british and american mystics in the occult version of operation paperclip. he was very successful and section 7 would be a feared organisation for years to come that was until the KGB began to fear his power and attempted to have him assassinated the Bulgarian assassin's umbrella did nothing to him. the sniper swore he put 2 rounds center mass before his scope exploded and cost him an eye. The car bomb under the zil limo killed the driver but chernoknizhnik, must not have been inside no matter what the spotter said.

 

 Pavel disappeared into the night and over the next decade every KGB official who had sanctioned his assassination died in a gruesome and inventive way. Pavel would reemerge after the berlin wall fell down still looking like he was in his late 30s and became the king pin of the occult underworld in The new Russia no one is quite Sure how the FSB managed to catch and hold him when the whole KGB couldn't but whatever it was The master is now forced to work as an agent for Putin's suicide squad.

 

An extremely tall and gaunt figure with a  shaved head and thick beard the thing people notice about him are his hooded eyes that seem to draw you in and hold you mesmerised His body is covered in tattoos both the common prison tattoos from his time in the Gulag as well as signs runes and sigils of power.the many rumours surrounding him are varied but the most popular is that he is the illegitimate son of Rasputin and the last empress of Russia.
