death tribble
Black Metal the Japanese often don't get what is intended by the West and this is certainly the case with Kiku Hayashi. She went to a Norwegian Death Metal concert thinking it would be like Baby Metal but it was not like that at all. And some in the audience thought that the naive young Japanese girl could be sacrificed to dark gods to give them power. However things did not go according to plan. Getting Kiku drunk and subsequently giddy worked but the killing/sacrifice bit was stopped and the audience members who tried to conduct a black magic ritual on the innocent Japanese maiden were 'invited to help the police with their inquiries'. Kiku however thought that she had been killed and has come back from the dead as Black Metal. This is where The Great Eight came in for they found her first. They spirited her away and looked after her, inducting her as a member after her powers surfaced making her an asset to them. Kiku has increased strength, endurance and damage resistance which only goes to prove to her that she is in fact a member of the undead. As several of the team are not combat specialists or capable of lifting excessive weights she is a godsend. And as a lot of the team are not psychotic killers with a nihilistic attitude or are completely amoral, she fits right in. The fact that they are not exploiting her sexually or making her do anything she would not want to do anyway also helps preserve her sanity or her delusion depending on which way you look at it. If someone tried to do something to her the response from the rest of the team would probably be excessive. Kiku like every Japanese woman you will meet is a martial artist albeit one who can kick a car into you.

BoloOfEarth
Charles Torbin was once a promising engineer, until that fateful day he was struck by a bolt of lightning. He survived the massive surge of electricity but not without consequences. First, his former love of things technical has now turned into a pathological hatred of technology. And second, he has developed the power to absorb electricity (whether from direct electrical attacks, plugging in, or even from proximity to electrical outlets or power lines) and generate electromagnetic beams, blasts, and pulses. Calling himself EMPulse (but pronounced "impulse"), he set out to "shut down the technology that fetters the common man and keeps him separate from his fellow man." death tribble
The Auditor Elena Aristophenes hails from Greece. For a long time she felt that there was no meaning in her life that there was something lacking. And then Il Professore appeared and it suddenly all made sense. Her exultation unlocked her superpowers. She can judge a person and weigh their actions. The bigger the positive actions a person performs the greater a reaction Elena can create against them. The same is true for negative actions as certain kidnappers, killers and mobsters have found to their cost. She is the ace in the hole for the team and keeps out of the limelight as it helps to maintain the mystique of the team. She and Benedict founded the team. She does not like Night Nurse but reasons that the actions of the others have to be balanced in some way. She is closest to Spool, Il Professore and Black Metal. death tribble
New Team: The Curse of the Tomb ! something different or a change. The team are victims of a curse placed on a tomb which is located in Central or South America. I'll give you the narrative and you take it from there. People familiar with choosing player characters for Call of Cthulhu will be at a distinct advantage. The curse does not strike at random and will not target innocents. The curse could have struck down people not at the actual site but those who got hold of the map to the tomb's location or even those who deciphered it. Basically if you are trying to profit from the tomb then the curse will get you. If there is one professor at the site who is the stereotypical 'succeed at all costs, treat everyone badly' type, then there must be another person there who gets on with everyone as there can be no drama without conflict and getting into the tomb generates drama. The tomb is away from other sites as people wanted whatever is there to be gone and forgotten forever. It is also protected by booby traps to kill anyone trying to get inside and then out again. The tomb can be a pyramid but not necessarily so. And it is a lot easier to justify hiding a pyramid/tomb in the jungles of Central or South America than in modern day Egypt. Members of the team who are at the site should be Professors, graduate students, journalists, security guards or basically anyone who should be at an archaeological dig. Cultists trying to get at whatever is in the tomb are also viable candidates. The curse does not have to have killed someone for them to be in the team. Nor does it have to have seriously injured or maimed them. Nor does it have to be that they have minor injuries. They can be totally normal except that the curse which affects them. Everyone is linked by the tomb or the quest for the tomb. People who suffered at the hands of the booby traps are also candidates for the team as they are also victims of the curse. The curse can take mental, physical or spiritual manifestations. Minimum number 5 people, maximum 20. List who they are, what they were doing for the curse to affect them and when it did. Flavour text going on about what happened is encouraged i.e. after three others had died then X got through and was affected. One person can do a maximum of three entries in a row for the team. This means that they can do a maximum of four for the 5 team and fifteen in the 20 person team to clarify things. I have deliberately left it vague whether it is a person or thing or even things that are in the tomb. You tell me.

BoloOfEarth
Kasi Hodgson was a grad student who joined the expedition mainly because she was engaged to one of the other grad students (Eli Falk) who was studying Mesoamerican cultures. Kasi had the misfortune to accidentally disturb the grave of one of the workers that originally constructed the tomb. (Specifically, she thought the hole in the ground was their trash pit and dumped a bunch of garbage on the bones of the dead tomb worker.) She is now cursed to see and hear the spirits of those who have passed on from this world. This includes Eli, who was an early victim of the tomb's curse (falling prey to a poisonous dart trap near the entrance). Luckily for Kasi, Eli's spirit has stuck by her side and has even learned how to affect the real world to a minor extent. Now, as Essence, Kasi uses Eli and other spirits to scout locations, collect intel, open doors from the inside, etc. death tribble
Nothere
Rex Hodson had always pictured himself as an explorer adventurer. But he wasn't much good at it. Which is how he became a security guard on the archeological dig. Disgusted that his life had boiled down to watching a bunch of stuck up brats dust off pottery even from a tomb the locals warned them of., he decided to see if he could make a little money on the side. Having checked the artifact tent he entered the tomb to see if it would be easier to steal from there. Then the curse struck. Rex found large numbers of flesh eating insects spewing from his mouth, his skin hardening and growing spikes, and his eyes taking on an insect shape granting him great vision. He hid out in the jungle for a few days until he learned to control the transformation enough to pass as his normal self. When he returned and found the others changed he joined them as Death Bug death tribble
csyphrett
Professor Boris Kasimer longed dreamed of the day that he would discover the tomb of the ancients. Various ancient texts indicated it would be under certain star formations. When the curse struck, he had been reading more of its history that he could glean from the carvings on the walls. It inflicted him with knowledge of what star did what to humanity and what he must do to bring about the end of the age as the Astrogeddoner. death tribble
William Gradin was a lawyer liaising between the respective governments and the expedition. He even allotted financial values to those killed and injured during the excavation specifying that locals that died were not as important or relevant as members of the expedition or government people regardless of whether they had family or not. This made him unpopular with not only some of the expedition but also the locals. He did venture into the tomb with others and recorded how people had been injured or died there usually noting that it was their own fault and thus compensation if any would be reduced accordingly. All the more upsetting when claims surfaced that some people had been murdered by another party or lured into traps in the tomb with the purpose or removing them. William was unmoved. He was already making plans with outsiders to make the place a tourist visiting centre and how to exploit the riches of the tomb. Oh sure, he knew about the curse. He was one of those present when Professors Marthsen and Kasimer had been confronted by a mystic detailing the power of the curse and woe betide those who did not heed the warning and abandon the search for the tomb. Stuff and nonsense. It would seem that the curse had a sense of humour or irony. Call it what you will, William was one of the last to be struck down and all through greed. During another visit inside the tomb, William found a ring and took it for himself. It was years old and he deserved a memento did he not ? No, he did not. The curse now means he is consumed by greed. Whatever he has it will never be enough. The mental effects are there for now but physical effects will follow. He is Acquisitor
death tribble
He came for the glory. He stayed because of the curse. This is the sort of tagline that Marty Dellman would write for the International Querier. The more sensational the story then the better it was for this 'journalist'. Marty was the kind of guy who liked to get involved in his stories provided he did not get caught doing so. His editor smelled a story after the first deaths at the site and so dispatched Marty. Marty was initially reluctant to go but after watching one of the expedition get devoured by a sudden swarm of insects (like something out of The Mummy), he was hooked. Marty made himself immensely unpopular with almost the entire expedition including both Professors Marthsen and Kasimer. The lawyer, Mr Gradin, however took his side pointing out how useful he was in publicising their work and keeping the respective governments happy as a result. Marty saw the potential in the tomb's curse claiming a high profile target and when the tomb was penetrated and the booby traps kicked off with a vengeance he saw an opportunity. He managed to locate an undiscovered booby trap and was in the midst of setting up a lure so that someone would activate it and suffer its effects when the curse kicked in. Another booby trap that somehow he missed, and somehow everyone else missed, activated and impaled him. His screams of agony drew the camp but they could not release him and could only watch his death throes. His death did play into the fact that there was a human agency at work trying to kill people. His lure to the other booby trap was discovered but erroneously thought to be what lured him to his 'untimely' demise. Marty was returned as a member of the undead seeking to lure others to their deaths. The others control him except Essence who is disgusted that he was going to harm others. death tribble
We have breached the minimum so anyone who wants to jump in and post the next team can do so. A minor civil servant Enrique Hernandez loathed his assignment having to work on site with the expedition. The tomb was a myth and as for the legend, what childish nonsense ! Until they found the tomb and then people started dieing. Enrique found himself appalled by the attitude of the lawyer and with his own superiors who were overjoyed by the anticipation of riches, tourism benefits and the publicity which made them look good. Enrique also became convinced that several of the government people had come onto the site and might have contributed to some of the deaths. Then the journalist died. And still the professors persisted. Enrique tried to flee but he saw a ghost and ghostly hand and some sort of insect thing. The curse struck him down and he now is forced to work as a go between for the others and the rest of humanity. Technically he is neither dead nor alive but he passes as the latter. He is Go Between. There is one professor that has not been done and potentially other graduate students and other professions that have not been done yet, ONLY IF people want to continue. But only a maximum of 10 more.

Badger
Xymotl received probably the worst curse of all, life. Or rather the soul of this ancient mummified priest was forced to return to its corpse due to curse. Strangely, this apparently didn't happen to the other mummies in the tomb. The priest, unable to be alive or dead, now forced against his desires to consume flesh and life-forces of the living like a ghoul to avoid agony to his soul, lurks in the shadows, waiting to find the one who cursed them all, to give that individual an even worse curse. To replace his body with theirs in the tomb, their soul unable to leave their slowly mummifying corpse trapped to lay their immobile for all eternity, that is the only thing to be done to this person. Afterwards, Xymotl plans to search for a way back to the afterlife (which will prove difficult as he cant seem to "die", avoiding preying on the living just leaves his soul in ever increasing agony, that would drive the living mad. And while he has tried animals, humans seems the only meal to satiate his unholy hunger for more than a couple days. Note: He seems to be able to detect the "cursed", but he hasn't been able to figure out who is the cause. The other cursed he cares little about (unless they can provide him with suitable "nourishment" of course) death tribble
