Mind Over Mattera

 

The CIA tried all sorts of experiments to win the Cold War but one of the ones that turned around and bit them hard in the backside was the mind control and telepathic viewing experiments they conducted on Colin Herschel and Melinda Clark. All though they had limited success with both of them their grandchild inherited formidable mental abilities and the means to control them. Alice grew up knowing what the CiA did to her grandparents and her parents and she for one was not going to sit back and take it. But what could she do ?

Well run for a start. But she managed to get clued in to the criminal underworld in time to realise that mentalists get killed by both sides of the law as they are more trouble than they are worth. She worked for a couple of shady outfits before fleeing the law although she managed to not upset her employers. She had decided to try and find confederates when she ran into The Gray Lady  who had made the mistake of trying to absorb the life force of the woman who became Old Gloria. She calmed both down and is the one who runs the group and recruited the others. She does not like killing but prefers to sic The Gray Lady on CIA personnel in order to satiate her hunger.

 

New Team: The Octagon

 

Eight individuals who belong to this group. People expect Ninjas as the relate the name to the Chuck Norris film. at least three must have martial arts abilities to some degree.

None can have Hulk/Juggernaut or higher levels of being a brick

None can have major mental abilities although they can have minor

None can have major energy abilities

None can have major shapechanging abilities so changing into a werewolf is ok but not into a starship or more than one form

None are the best in the world

The PRIMUS assault squad was heading out of the base after pulling night watch when they overheard some investigative agents walking in discussing the group known as the Octagon.  Corporal Posh turned to his teammates and asked, "Just who is this Switch guy they mentioned, anyway?"

 

Sgt. Rubble rumbled, "I fink I hear he super strong.  I hear he pick up battleship and threaten to beat Grond stupid with it."  He paused a moment and scratched his chin.  "Well, beat him stupider."

 

Cpl. Clog coughed politely.  "I heard he's, like, some uber-powerful mentalist.  The kind of guy to give Menton a run for his money.  He made all of the Champions and everybody around see everything double, allowing the Octagon to escape last week."

 

"I think you're both wrong," said Sgt. Organ.  "He throws fire around.   Didn't you guys hear about him putting a ring of fire around a SWAT team last month?  He's a major blaster, I'm telling you."

 

Sgt. Smallbase  shook her head sadly.  "His name's Switch, isn't it?  Obviously he's a shapeshifter.  During that fight with Just Cause, he turned into a dragon and a giant robot.  I think he then turned into the Millennium Falcon to get away.  At least he's not a werewolf."  She shuddered at the thought.

 

Captain Carota waited until they were done comparing thoughts before clearing his throat to get their attention.  "He's an illusionist, men.  And women," he said, nodding a Sgt. Smallbase.  "Those were all images he conjured up.  Our cohorts in UNTIL believe he may have a hologram generator of some sort, but if so it generates extra-visual sensory elements."  At their blank stares, he added, "Don't any of you read the official reports?  Status updates?  The daily watch logs?"  He shook his head as they all looked abashed.  "Honestly, folks, I expected better of you."

The villainess known as  the Fan, incorporates dance and martial arts based around her razor sharp fans that she uses to cut her opponents to ribbons

The Eighth Man

 

This is probably the most well known member of the group. He is a martial artist dressed in traditional ninja garb. Those who can see infrared or ultraviolet can see an eight which was put on his person but no always appears on whatever outfit he wears. A Japanese or Chinese mystic was responsible for this. It is supposed to be lucky but the wearer would disagree. He is also the one who does the initial negotiations with any agency who wishes to employ them. He speaks a number of languages or has some form of universal translator. He does seem fairly generic which has lead to some to believe he might be a duplicator, a clone or cloneable.

Smokescreen is the "taxi" for the Octagon.  She can create a cloud of smoke in most locations, from which the Octagon steps out (apparently from a form of teleport gate).  Other than this teleportation ability, and a general obscuring smoke, she seems pretty low-powered, hanging back during most battles.

Parlin is the brick of the group. His low level strength is accentuated by the ability to attack flaws in materials. This allows him to break into vaults and through physical defenses.

Deton8

 

This member of the group can manifest micro-explosives which they can then explode. These do not do killing damage but the can blind, create smokescreens or injure people. One tactic the group uses is to allow Deton8 to be captured and then they activate which causes havoc. Then again they can sneak him amongst the 'enemy' and then again it happens as before

Super Attack Combo Rysei is a fan of fighting games given the ability to copy fighting games moves for his superpowered side. He is more than capable of taking on trained combatants until his power wears off.

Firespite has one power. He opens a gate to an elemental plane of fire and directs the resulting blast at a target.  He tends to vandalize a target so the group can escape while heroes and police are trying to help put out the resulting fire

Don't mess with Buddhist monks else you might suffer a curse, thus Dr Elephanthead. Some say that certain mad scientists are responsible for this. Not so ! Desecrating a Buddhist shrine resulted in the villain now known as Dr Elephanthead. He is smart but he has a trunk and tusks while the rest of his body is normal. The resident genius (?) of the group he comes up with inventions to take on the heroes

Rahid the Sword Lion is a master martial artist and his command of the Sword of Portents allow him to punch upward against foes who should be potentially more powerful than he is, and obliterate anyone below his status. He has engaged in rivalries with other martial artists around the world such as the Green Dragon, Seeker, Master Bengal, and  the Jade Pheonix.

Zen-Fire has used meditation techniques to become "one with fire". Fire cannot harm him, and he can command fire to do his bidding. He cannot normally generate fire, but he carries a cigar lighter to overcome that. Mostly to light himself on fire.

He is the most dazzling creature alive for he is The Peacock. He charms everyone with his looks and charm and no-one can possibly resist him. he is allied with the others as he can't take a punch or almost any other hit. He is an Indian man of grace, well made up and manicured. His teeth are well polished and he can speak more than a few languages.

Script is a beggar on the street. He is covered with tattoos of phrases from the various holy books of the island which give him protection, commit summonings, and create other effects on demand.

Dasa

 

The last member of the group can fire off bolts of energy but not fire. He tends to defer to the others but is one of the best fighters in the group and does not hesitate to get his hands dirty. He often undertakes undercover missions as he can appear innocuous or instantly forgettable. He backs up Script if needed.

 

New Team : Seven Nation Army

 

This is a group of seven people men and women who are one of the most feared mercenary groups in the world. Each member comes from an different country and there are no duplicates so once one country is picked it is off the list. It also means that there should be substantial language skill in the group as they are not all English speakers. So one American, one Russian, on Chinese is optimum.

They also have to have a different speciality but that does not mean it has to be a weapon. One martial artist is required. And there can be women and men members.

The Swiss is the knife expert of the Seven Nation Army. Not only is he an expert martial artist with a knife, he also has tons of tools hidden inside them.

Kursk

 

From Russia comes the strongman codenamed Kursk. He uses heavy machine guns that usually require two men or rocket launchers. He is a brick capable of bouncing bullets and throwing cars around in close combat

The Animist hails from Kenya. His ability to call up spirits to do his bidding extends to the inanimate.

Maginot

 

This Frenchman can form a defensive shield which his colleagues can take cover behind. Additionally the shield will form miniature forts which can then open fire on anyone directly in front of them. Tis has proven to be surprisingly effective. He tends to use a rifle and can act as a sniper.

He speaks English, Spanish, German, Italian and Russian

Xing Zhi was a young Chinese translator who happened to be in the room at the UN when Eurostar attacked and Fiacho threw in a mutagenic bomb.  Most of the diplomats and their staff died from their horrible transformations their bodies underwent.  Zhi was one of the unlucky ones who survived.  She went from being a lovely young woman to a disfigured creature, with the odd psionic ability to swap people's minds at a touch.  (Unfortunately she can't swap her own mind into a less horrifying body.)  While this switch lasts no longer than a few hours, this is often enough to allow the SNA to get what they're after.  It is this power that caused her to be called Mindset.

Schwarz Panzer

 

From Germany comes the armour wearer Schwarz Panzer (the Black Tank). He can provide air support for his colleagues to a small degree as he can only fly a little off the ground but he cannot clear tall buildings in a single bound. He can fire a variety of  blasts, blinding lights and explosives but he is not as strong as Kursk. He can speak English and French although the armour has a translate facility in the armour.

Losada hails from Venezuela. He can alter people's minds with a touch of his hand. He uses to get him whatever he wants while he sits back and let his puppets ruin their lives.

Magnesium

 

This member of the group will often begin by setting off a blinding flash which has often been known to take out those who have eye protection. They also give out heat in order to take down opposition.
