A psychotic assassin who wore a suit with electrified razor sharp rings that he can shoot at targets or combine to form a chain to entangle. He was an old running buddy of  Hawkesmythe who brought him in on the attack and he was more than happy to kill anyone in sight. He gleefully murdered one of the board members of Jackson Industries and immediately was faced with Flechette. He mocked her as he prepared to attack "You don't have the guts to stop me bitc..." only to be silenced by a pinpoint shot through his right eye.

Madjack

 

Nobody knew when Madjack graced the fight. But one thing was clear...neither side invited or wanted him. He used his powerful leaps, steal-like fingers and claws, fire breath, and stuff to litterly tear asunder both cop, crook, and even agent. It is said that he was so bloody afterwards that his very skin turned black as it dryed.

 

Few knew that Madjack was in really  Marvin Jackson, son of the founder of Jackson Industries, who gained his transformation when he injested a strange drug dating from the Victorian era in a quest to get high one night.

 

Think of 

Madjack as a combination of Spring Heal Jack and the Harry Osborne Green Goblin.

I should point out if it is not clear that the wrecking group are not psychopaths out to kill unlike some of those with Meggido

 

Irontooth

 

Charles Penbright's jaw had been remade with a steel alloy following an accident. People saw him afterwards and feared him so he became a crook. The same accident made him strong and gave him some resistance to damage. He gained a rep in the underworld and got some scientist to make his face flesh again so he still had the strength in his teeth but he looked normal again. He hooked up with Backdraft who arranged the gig to attack Jackson Industries. It was a simple smash up. Go in wreck the loading bay, wreck the lorries and vans, trash the warehouse holding boxes with a specific brand name and colour and to be on the safe side make the roadway impassable or create something like a sinkhole. Everyone got there on time and was in the right position getting around security (Charles had bitten through fencing) and were beginning the job when gatecrashers appeared. And they were not fussy who or what  they were shooting at. At first it appeared to be a rival group trying to do the same thing until you saw the callous and calculated way they shot at people. Then a hero group appeared followed by the cops. Not just beat cops or one patrol car but SWAT and the rumoured new armour guy the police were thinking of using.

That settled it someone had grassed the gig to the police. There was no way out except through the police and also no payment if the job was not done. Irontooth settled on ducking from incoming fire and vandalising one of the transport while also chewing on cables to wreck the loading doors operation. He tried to stay out of the way of Philadelphia Freedom and her colleagues and also the psychos who were firing indiscriminately. Charles however ran into SWAT who had new and improved firepower to deal with superpowered renegades. He was downed by non-lethal rounds which took the wind out of him and was arrested,.

 

Backdraft is available to be written up. He would know who hired them to attack the plant.

Tommy O' Conner was an arson investigator who realized he could make more money setting fires than catching those who did. He acquired a fireproof suit with twin flamethrower gauntlets and Backdraft was born. He was approached by a representative of Omni Universal Innovations to do a job at Jackson Industries and destroy a line of product that was in direct competition to one OUI was about to debut. He gathered a crew and at first it was going by the numbers, but then all hell broke loose. Heroes, villains, cops all over the place. He saw Irontooth go down to some SWAT guys with tricked out armor and gear and that was enough for him. He torched everything around him as cover and made a run for it. He avoided a friggin' Giant Dog and just barely  dodged being run down by Cartune while making his escape. O'Conner figured that the fix had been in and his crew had been set-up to do the dirty work and then get stiffed on the pay-off. In the weeks that followed the Battle of Philadelphia OUI's main office and two of it's warehouses were torched in the night.

I liked that. A bit more of the onion and consequences.

 

Some villains are renowned for the panache they bring to the job such as The Viridian Bat who was just beginning to make a name for himself when The Battle of Philadelphia broke out. Others never really made the big splash that they thought they deserved but learned to live with it anyway. One of these useful non-entities was Death Bat. Meggido brought him as as air support and he provided useful aerial information as well as slinging out deadly attacks as they wrecked the buildings of Jackson Industries. He was able to alert the team, to the rapidly approaching police but they were already being engaged by The Scions of Liberty who just 'happened' to be in the vicinity.

The presence of another group doing something to the loading bay was relayed to Meggido who ordered that 'if they got in the way, that's their lookout'. 

He launched one attack that seemed to have taken out the CFO of the company when The Red Bolt appeared and tried to get him away from the combat as well as Meggido The hero was a known quantity so Death Bat blithely continued what he was doing and not paying close attention. He really should have listened to the whistle and roar as something came hurtling down from above. He didn't and so was sent crashing to the ground by The Red Bolt's dive. He suffered injuries which could have been treated but he chose to threaten civilians cowering in fear with what his team mates would do to them before they were killed. They in turn when they managed to flee to safety said nothing of the injured villain who succumbed to his wounds before The Red Crescent or other medical aid reached him

Max Tompkins discovered he had a special link with animals. He became the Animal Controller and used his ability to make animals his henchmen. Since he started his career, He had been opposed by the Great Dan, a man who could turn into a giant dog. When he saw his old enemy at his latest job, he used an experimental ray gun from  the Jackson Industries facility to kill Dan once and for all.

 

Witnesses say that he was electrified by the weapon he used. His body was recovered after the battle was over.

The Giggler

 

This villain brought up the rearguard for Meggido. One reason was that he was not trusted. He was a psychotic lunatic who was a teleporter. His role was maximising collateral damage. Hawkesmythe had orders to maim him and leave him for the heroes or the cops if he went overboard. Shortly before the job a gypsy had cursed him but he merely sniggered and took their life.

He shot people with one hand and stabbed them with a Freddy Krueger style glove with the other. He was having a whale of a time, taking off a policeman's face with one claw swipe before teleporting away laughing all the while. It should have registered with him that the Scions were present. After all he had killed one previously and had attacked those close to them. But he was insane. At first they did not notice him amongst the carnage and chaos but during a lull in Hawkesmythe and Flechette's gun battle, the heroine did. She began stalking him, tracking him by his giggles while also keeping a weather eye out for Hawkesmythe. Flechette bided her time launching a grenade with one hand while firing a deadly fusillade with the other. The Giggler teleported away from the grenade and right into the lethal volley. He was shocked. Flechette was not a killer. She could not have set him up that way. He would have bled out but fired one bolt that she calculated would bounce in a particular way and it gave him a stomach wound as well.

Whether Red Crescent could have saved him is a moot point.

 

Does it strike anyone as odd that someone who had history with the Scions should have been part of this and that particular group should have turned up ?

 

So if no-one else does it this can can be the Sophia and Sybll's target

Ghostscythe was an old compatriot of Hawksmythe's  - they'd run together in the E-Star Gang before either was well known or considered dangerous. But where Hawksmythe had become an infamous supervillain, Ghostscythe, with her powers of intangibility and lethal razors, had made a lucrative life for herself in the assassination world.

However, when Hawksmythe and Meggido contacted her about the op, she saw an opportunity to make more of a rep in supervillain circles, maybe up her price or even get recruited by one of the big names.

Her job was to run primary scout, find the targets, then let the flashy boys finish the job. She was fine with that. But when the wrecking group busted in, one of the members, a speedster called Rumbler, was conspicuously avoiding the fighting. Ghostscythe found that interesting. She informed Meggido, and trailed the man to what proved to be a pay-off by the cops for warning them about the break-in.

Rumbler has been seen a few times since, but that was subterfuge on Ghostscythe's part - the real Rumbler is resting in pieces at the bottom of a nearby river. Neither Ghostscythe nor Meggido is quite sure what to do with the information, so they're holding it close to their chests for now.

There are psychopaths like The Giggler and Madjack in the fight. But Meggido decided that even his group would need medical attention. So he hired Doctor Piecemeal, a low level bio-manipulater who can do some healing if needed. Of course, he can also manipulate his own bioenergy also.

 

He worked out well, healing or manipulating the bio-mass of members of the team Meggido wishes to do so, and avoiding healing those in the group Meggido didn't wish to survive.  Or worse, use the more harmful version of his powers. He managed to survive himself, mostly by making others think he died in the battle. But faking his death is child's play for a bio-manipulater like himself.

True. Nobody but Madjack knew he was coming to do what he did. But Meggido does know that hiring a bunch of psychopaths means that people he doesn't want hurt will get hurt. So having a healer on hand is a good idea.

Barrier

 

Backdraft brought Barrier in as a human shield. He can bounce bullets and can throw heavy objects around which s useful in an operation where transport needs to be vandalised one way or another. Barrier had a lot of bad luck in the Battle of Philadelphia. He was hit by Philadelphia Freedom and Burning Eagle, shot by Flechette, Hawkesmythe, Kill Coil, The Giggler, Richtor-1 and the police, bitten by The Great Dan, blasted by Meggido and Cosmik, bombed by Death Bat, stabbed by The Giggler and Madjack and while leaping was knocked to the ground by The Red Bolt. He holds the distinction of being hit by all the armour wearers that were working for the police. This did have the effect of letting at least Backdraft and possibly Meggido, escape. He actually surrendered to the police and this was caught on camera by Philadelphia News as he put up his hands and said 'I Quit !'

Dogfighter was brought in by Meggido to provide top-cover and snipe targets of opportunity, as well as deny any arriving supers or cops control of the air. It was this operation that has firmly cemented the power-armoured mercenary as a villain in the public mind - prior, though he had been super-powered muscle for hire, Dogfighter had straddled the line as far as hero/villain went.

Dogfighter never actually entered the building - his 20mm cannons and guided missiles were never designed for close quarters battle. He downed one news chopper and was providing fire support for Hawksmythe when his radar screamed of an incoming projectile. This proved to be Red Bolt. Dogfighter moved to close the distance and engage the hero, but misjudged the closing velocity - to people on the ground, it looked like he'd flown directly into Red Bolt. 

Picking himself out of the wreckage, he loosed a volley of 20mm projectiles at approaching police from his one still-functioning cannon. This attracted the attention of Burning Eagle, who promptly showed why Dogfighter never went for close combat - but who had to use potentially lethal power levels to penetrate the mercenary's armoured shell. In fact, to this day  Burning Eagle is convinced he killed Dogfighter, when the power suit's micro-reactor destabilized and exploded. Actually, Dogfighter had already ejected, using his chameleon-wave undersuit to avoid detection, evade the police and flee the scene, though he was seriously tempted to take a shot at Red Crescent when he arrived - the two have an ongoing grudge over Dogfighter's actions in the middle-east, as well as significant religious differences.

Jackson al-Malik is building a new suit, but figures he'd be better off with a different nom-de-guerre. At this point he's settled on Sky Baron.

The Phantom Eye was hired by a mysterious third party as part of the kidnap team, targeting various scientist of Jackson Industries. He used his powerful "phantom eye" eye visor to find his targes by viewing objects from far away and through solid objects and move them at a distance. Unfortunately, he was too late, as Madjack slained most of them.

 

Forcently for his boss, they were able to snatch a few scientist away who were not lethally wounded. It took the media days to figure out who was snatched over who was dead.

 

I'm leaving his fate up to others. Especially those who will build his partner.

If I could give this more than one like I would. It ties in very neatly with everything else. And the police and public may believe that 6 villains so far are dead (with Dr Piecemeal also faking death)

So we don't know the final fate of the villain ? Nice. However one missing bit is that the kidnappers did grab somebody.

you wanted an update and whatever you put in will be fine. I was thinking did you mean Great Dan or Great Dane but as you repeated Dan I will go with that in the update. The fact that Animal Controller also died was a nice touch.

So what in the end was this all about ? There was a prophecy of one who will bring peace and harmony to magic or destroy all those who wield it. This latter eventuality concerned The Sybll who had many descendants who used or had ties to magic. She began to sift through eventualities to isolate the person who might be the one so that she could take steps against them. She received unexpected help when Fatebinder cursed The Sophia claiming one would bring her down. The Sybll realised if she tried to manipulate The Sophia in any way shape or form that the results would be catastrophic for her family. So instead she concentrated on Fatebinder and how they would attempt to thwart destiny as they had done before. Fatebinder altered potential futures so that the prophecy would bring about someone who would destroy magic. That settled The Sybll. Whoever came forward would threaten her descendants and ultimately herself.

The Sophia became aware of the prophecy and planned how to subvert the prophecy as Fatebinder could not be directly attacked.

Two powerful forces of magic thus began manipulating events to isolate the one person and ensure their demise. The target would turn out to be Roger Craddock who was a minor paranormal whose talent was breaking locks and shorting out systems with an electric blasts at close range. He operated under the name Crackler and came to the attention of Backdraft who needed doors and alarms taken out on various jobs. This working relationship was what would bring Roger to what turned out to be The Battle of Philadelphia. What would happen with Fatebinder's manipulation of the future was that Roger would kill someone at Jackson Industries as a result of magic, his mind would snap and he would crusade against those who used magic bringing down many practitioners and their kin. So instead he needed to perish and so would others to ensure that the prophecy failed completely. And if the opportunity permitted various alternate targets could also be removed.

It was child play to persuade Meggido to choose Hawkesmythe and lead a group against Jackson Industries. Tweaking Kilroy Killjoy to bring the Scions was more difficult as was stalling the kidnap group all day long.

Roger had done his part getting through alarms and security on the outside of the complex and he was working on doors in the loading bay prior to the impending assault when Meggido attacked. Roger tried to make it inside but fire from the villains stopped him. Then the police appeared and opened fire. Roger had to flee here and there not knowing what to do. It therefore appeared to be just bad luck that Hawkesmythe put bullets into his abdomen and that he then stumbled in front of said villain when Flechette returned fire. Either wound might have been survivable but both proved fatal. At least that is what the inquest found.

 

If anyone else wants to have another victim of the two, go right ahead.

Jones Joins is the brick Hammerhead. A member of the wrecking crew, he practically ignored everyone and everything except for smashing through walls and support collems. He miscalculated his survivability when an entire upper building crushed him to death.

 

Well, at least he succeeded in wrecking a building. Pitty it wasn't the one he was hired to destroy...

It also means that we have 6 dead villains with two that faked their deaths meaning the public think 8 died. This would make it look like a victory overall for the heroes. I deliberately left whether the heroes or villains won vague and let people decide.
