Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Master planner, master cat burglar, master martial artist... "Jimmy" Chow Yun-Fat, better know by his alias Black Tiger, was not the leader of the Seven Syndicate, but he was an invaluable right hand man.

His very brilliance is what made him the perfect target as the first of the Seven Syndicate to go.

For all his stealth, for all his vaunted mastery of kung fu, for all his careful planning against every contingency... he could do little about being ambushed by the Hired Guns. Killdeer fired the first shot, Howitzer the second, OSOK the last, and the other Hired Guns each got at least a couple of hits in between. In fact, when Black Tiger's body was found, there was more bullet metal than bone left within.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

There are many Speed Kings but only one King Speed and, oh boy, did he love telling the heroes about it. The resident speedster of the group he deferred to the others in planning and executing the robberies etc that the Seven Syndicate were renowned for. Equally he was adept at rushing in and gathering a fallen team mate to get them away from the law. Potrayed as 'Brash and cocky' by the media and law enforcement he kept his mouth shut and did not wind his coleagues up except when that was part of a plan to convince heroes of tensions in the group and then exploit the opening it gave them.

King Speed was identified as Ulrich Larson after his death which was caused albeit inadvertently by The Golden Guardian and the Golden Legion. Spotting the Guardian, King Speed raced up to him and smacked him on the head screaming 'Loser !'. If he had taken off then and there maybe what happened next would not have happened. Startled the Golden Guardian let go of the half finished banana he was consuming. Meantime King Speed circled the hero until his foot caught the peel and stuck to his foot. This caused him to skid around as he lost traction and he narrowly missed hitting walls and hydrants and lampposts. He ended up doing a pratfall and landed on his head. Everyone thought it was funny until they realised he was not moving. The slight fall damaged his skull causing a cerbal haemorrage which lead to his death.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Dr. Emil Lime was one of several scientists working on Project Maps (Man Amplified by Powered Suit) for the US government back in the early 1950s. He had a double identity, though. As Scarlet Steel, he posed as a Soviet agent attempting to steal the secrets of MAPS for the Commies. This would cover his own ordinary selling of information to the Reds. Unfortunately for him, Captain Justice figured out Dr. Lime's game, and gave him a good and proper beating in the process. Dr. Lime was convicted of treason (despite his claims that he'd actually sold the Communists worthless information--"I'm a capitalist at heart!") and narrowly escaped prison before being executed.

Building a better Scarlet Steel outfit, Dr. Lime went after Captain Justice for revenge. It wasn't that much better, and Dr. Lime was soon back behind bars. Scarlet Steel clashed with the good captain twice more before Justice vanished. Thwarted from his vengeance, Dr. Lime went into general supervillainy, constantly refining and upgrading his powered armor. When the Seven Syndicate was formed, Scarlet Steel was made the leader due to his long experience and undeniable intelligence. (As proof of his intelligence, Dr. Lime was a mastermind who did not turn the rest of his team against him with arrogance and abuse.)

But then one day Scarlet Steel discovered that Captain Justice, the real Captain Justice, had returned from temporal exile, and had now joined the Constitutional Guard. At last, he was able to take the cause of vengeance up again. Dr. Lime carefully studied the Constitutional Guard and devised ways to make his armor impervious to all their powers, both individually or in any combination.

Then he struck. Captain Justice laughed at first to see his old enemy again, but five decades of technological advance had made Scarlet Steel far more formidable than the clunky "rustbucket" he remembered. Scarlet Steel walked all over the Guard, easily swatting aside the less important members and concentrating on the man he hated so. Soon, he had his metal hands on Captain Justice's throat, ready for squeezing. "Now, Captain Justice, you shall die, slowly and hor--"

Captain Justice waited for the end of that word, but it never came. He couldn't feel any relaxation of the armor's grip, and he could hear Dr. Lime, aged though he might be, still breathing. But the armor wasn't moving, and Scarlet Steel wasn't talking any more. The rest of the Guard awoke and recovered, surrounding Scarlet Steel. Still, nothing changed. They tried various ways of attacking the villain, or breaking Justice free. But the suit's defenses held, automatically protecting it from all damage.

After a few hours and the loss of some neck skin, Captain Justice was able to wriggle free of the death grip. It took three more days to finally break through Scarlet Steel's armor, and by then Dr. Lime was dead. After an autopsy and federal investigation, it was concluded that Scarlet Steel had had a severe stroke from the emotional stress of fighting his old enemy. It damaged the speech center of his brain, which was also how he cybernetically controlled the armor's functions. The defenses were automatic, but not the hydration and nutrition systems, which had to be actively engaged. Scarlet Steel had been alive and very probably conscious until an hour or two before his armor was breached.

"He was protected from everything in the world but old age," as Captain Justice put it in a press release. "Old age and his own hatred."

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

With the group depleted, the remaining members temporarily split up to try to figure out "just what the (bleep) is going on?". Unfortunately, for Dr. Atmosphere he didnt get a chance to meet back up with the other 3 remaining.

Dr. Simon Adams was always a bit boastful. A former NASA scientist gone rogue. He built up a very powerful suit of armor with many gadgets built in. Unfortunately, his boastfulness was his undoing. When, a local superhero-wannabe found out the Doc was hiding in his little hometown he foolishly confronted him. he was a feisty little low rung super, but not much of a match. He took quite a beating.

Unfortunately, the Doc couldnt resist a little gloating. He powered down his force field, took off his helmet so this idiot could see his true face. Unfortunately, for him, a little boy (who worshipped the air said super flew on) went to defend his hero. Throwing a rock (that defenses would have merely bounced away) he somehow hit the circuitry causing a glitch. Shooting the poor doctor hysterically screaming straight into the air at full speed......when Dr. Atmosphere hit the upper reaches of his namesake sans helmet.......not so pretty.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Farseer had always prided himself in his precognitive abilities. Indeed, they had served the Syndicate well in planning crimes and making getaways practically without error.

And then the deaths started. Deaths he never saw coming.

To say Farseer was terrified was an understatement. The future had never been closed off to him before. And now, in his moment of desperation, he and his allies were vulnerable. He went without sleep, straining his powers as far as he could go to break through and see if there truly was any way to escape a horrible fate.

In his mind's eye, he saw what was responsible for blocking his powers just before his head exploded inside out.

When the Sophia first developed her own cloaking spell, she chose Farseer as her first target to test the spell out, specifically because he was a villain who wasn't associated with the evil mystic organization responsible for blocking men's eyes. It worked beyond her expectations. The other members of the Syndicate dying beforehand were just unexpected and unrelated bonuses. And when Farseer finally pushed his precog powers to the limit, the Sophia was waiting with a sorcerous ambush that violently overwhelmed his skull. His death was another "ends justifies the means" that no one knows about...

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

The morgue was always kept cool. The need to stave off decay being the main reason. However, the chill in the air never bothered Doctor Eliott Cross in the least. Some might say that his soul was colder than the poor corpses who came to this midpoint in the process of death to funeral. Doctor Cross had his secrets, secrets he'd never share with the patients that came under his careful knife. His other patients, those that he worked on for his friends, well, that was a subject for another day.

With practiced hands Doctor Cross leaned in closer to the scalding hot water spewing from the stainless steel sink, while whistling a tuneless tune from some nameless song that even Doctor Cross couldn't remember. Hand washing done, Doctor Cross pulled on one then the other neoprine gloves and turned toward the locker. His latest patient had arrived. Unlike his usual preferences, this one was definately dead. Grasping the cold handle the overhead lights gleamed like a knife off of his glasses. An easy pull and the door opened and the cradle with its' decaying contents slide out soundlessly. With a strength belying his slight frame, Doctor Cross transfered the corpse to the examination table.

Doctor Cross smiled a little under his mask and he bent closer to begin his exploration. With a bloody hand Doctor Cross reached overhead turning on the recorder. After stating his name, Doctor Cross proceeded.

"Subject name was Eugene Bass, date of birth July 4, 1985. Mister Bass was known to the public as Caged Rage. From the external examination, I've noted that Mr. Bass was a devotee of tattooing as I count a number exceeding at least twenty, most of them being of the errotic nature."

The sound of a surgical saw cut in as Doctor Cross proceeded to remove the coronal part of Caged Rage's skull. The smell of blood and other fluids grew strong in the silent morgue as the saw died down.

There was a plopping sound as Doctor Cross placed Caged Rage's brain into a pan for weighing.

"Scarring on several areas point to multiple contusions. However, I don't believe these to be the cause of death as the scarring appears to be old. Possibly Mr. Bass had suffered some type of brain damage, the extent of which I'm not willing to comment on. However, based upon news reports on Mr. Cross this may indicate why the man became a super-villain."

"I shall now proceed with the thoracic examination."

Doctor Cross the picked up a razor sharp scapel and starting at the point connecting the lower jaw made an incision running all the way down to the pelvic area.

"Odd," Doctor Cross said bending in to get a closer look at the trachea. Something appeared lodged in the organ.

Selecting another scapel Doctor Cross cut into trachea, and the small object easily came out. An insect it appeared to be, probably a beetle, possibly Phyllophaga . Inflammation around the area where the beetle had lodged.

"Guess that explains it," Doctor Cross said stepping back holding the June Bug in his palm. "Caged Rage died from swallowing a bug."

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

And then there was but one member left.......

The young Japanese woman known only as the Ice Mistress had essentially lost her "family". She had been orphaned and essentially adopted by Black Tiger when she was 8. She never knew why. He seemed to know of her latent metahuman abilities. He had her trained as a ninja. Those skills in combo her with her powers over ice made her useful to the team even at a young age of 13. Extraordinarily nimble and small (even now in her early 20s she stands at just under 5 foot, with a weight in the 90-100 range.) she could often sneak in through the ducts, silently avoiding alarms to steal things when stealth was most advised.

But now, she was alone. First her "father" Black Tiger had died. "Uncle" Scarlet Steel had offered his condolences. Then King Speed went. She always thought of him as an older brother figure along with Caged Rage. As they were the next younger members of the group* (*possibly?)

After Scarlet Steel bit it. Dr. Atmosphere seeing as how their numbers were being numbered, thought to split up and meet in 6 months. The Ice Mistress went with Farseer into hiding to help guard him as his abilities most likely gave them a way out of this.

Tragically ironic, the Doc was next to go. He should have stayed, but his arrogance always was his undoing. She went to tell Farseer the news but........it was a mess.

She went to seek out Caged Rage. Along the way, by happenstance, she came across a group of DEMON agents on a mission. For some reason they attacked her, she killed all but one. Who left badly wounded suddenly recognized.

Agent: You're of that Syndicate that had been cursed.

Ice Mistress: Curse?

Agent: YEah, you guys were foolish enough to steal that Hope DIamond.

IM: What about it?

Agent: You are all doomed to die.

IM: No way, there has to be some way to stop it.

Agent: Maybe, if so, why should we tell you?

When interrogation proved futile, she finished him off. Hoping, to find a way to stop it, she took some incredibly high-risk break ins over the next few months before the meeting. By the purest of luck (or was it?), she found a sliver of hope. She could undo the curse, by stealing the diamond, and performing a ritual, incredibly fortunate she could bring back her friends from the dead. This was some luck for a change (or was it by design?). She went to the meeting place.

But, Caged Rage didnt come, she came to find out he had died, by swallowing a bug, just 2 days earlier. How could she pull this off alone?

Desperate, she hired a local gang of idiot thugs to help her heist from the current owner they had sold it too. She gave them their assignments (in reality they were mere decoys for any heroes that showed up). On this occasion, the Golden Legion appeared. And perfectly, her patsies proved a time-consuming annoyance for them while she stole back the diamond. No one even saw her.

Finally, she got to the place where she would perform the ritual. As she performed it and was nearly finished, she but only needed to put the diamond on the altar she had taken from DEMON in her break-ins. But, The Golden Guardian appeared. For a minute, she was fatalistic, after all this guy never got anything right. She charged with diamond still in hand, somehow missed with her katana while the Golden Guardian obliviously spun into a stupid pose.

But, it was worse.....she dropped the diamond and as it bounced it stopped right where she was falling, and as fell.....

She landed on it, larynx first. Her windpipe was crushed. And she lay there unable to breath, choking, dying, and finally dead.

The Golden Guardian picked up the diamond (after 5 minutes of poses, amazingly oblivious of her dying) wondering about this thing. "Well, he thought, "I need to find a place for this thing until my legion shows up. That altar should do nicely.

:eg:

Perhaps, this foolishness of Golden Guardian's ends up resurrecting the Syndicate. Where they can return as nothing happened. Or maybe this was a DEMON scheme to have this resurrected team as brainwashed slaves to do the bidding of DEMON. But, did the Guardian's interference nullify the brainwashing influence? Or was this all part of DEMON's plan too? Just some ideas, for a possible future use of the team. Because, hey comic characters rarely die forever.

New team: The Forgotten

8 members. No theme, other than these supervillains were "rejected or outcast" in some way. Whether by society in general, or by a supehero/villain team or whatever. They banded together as an us vs. the world mindset. Thinking of only each other in favorable terms. (very close knit due to their tortured past)

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Lucifer used to have a different name. Well, two different names, but he's more concerned about his hero name. In his old life, Lucifer was, in fact, one of the most powerful superheroes on Earth, and certainly the most successful. He was a legend in his own time, the man who fought Doctor Destroyer to a standstill in single combat, the one who banished Tyrannon for a whole year. He saved the world easily dozens of times, and was adored the entire galaxy over. All the top superteams wanted him, but he never permanently joined any of them. After all, they'd just hold him back. There were schools named for him, and one small African nation even considered renaming itself after him when he singlehandedly solved all its economic and social woes in a day.

Yes, life was good...back then. And if he was a trifle vain, a little overweening in self-pride, well, what of it? The man who would become Lucifer was, indeed, just that awesome, if he did say so himself.

One day, he condescended to help the Time Rangers out on a mission. The fabric of reality was at stake, a multiverse at risk, all in a day's work. And the Rangers must desperately need help, considering they'd had to dig up a Nazi scientist to fill out their ranks.

After much combat and bizarre time glitches, the great hero and the Rangers came upon the misshapen crystal device that was causing all the trouble. "Okay," said Weaver, "we need to--"

The man who would become Lucifer simply disintegrated the device. No device, no problem. Well, except for the rapidly enlarging crack in reality. That looked particularly ugly, but surely a creative use of his vast powers would--

"I should have gone with Plan B in the first place," said Weaver. "I guess I had too much hope that you wouldn't screw up."

"Plan B?"

Weaver pushed the great hero into the crack before the other could brace himself. The crack sealed, and the hero was trapped in the maelstrom beyond space-time.

He does not know how long he drifted, but the man eventually discovered that he could sense a way out. But at a dire cost, for every erg of power he exerted in this maelstrom would be lost permanently, and he did not know how far it was to the exit. Nevertheless, the man persisted. He felt himself grow less and less, eaten away by the non-Euclidean forces of this wasteland.

At last, he emerged, a free man, back on Earth! He took a moment to rejoice, then took to the skies (for he still had a fraction of his former power) to go home.

But there was no home. Where the palace built for him by a grateful public once stood, there was only a taco stand, old and dilapidated. Accosting a passerby, the man learned that it was only a day since he had left, but there had never been a palace there. And the stranger did not recognize him. The man put this down to his disheveled appearance and ripped costume, but his codename was a mystery to the stranger. And to everyone else the man talked to that day.

The next day, the man had acquired some civilian clothing (yes, it was stealing, but he'd repay the store as soon as he got his money back) and went to a library to use their computer access. His codename was nowhere on their interwebs, no one matching his description. All of his great deeds had been done, but according to the official records, by other heroes. Many times they had struggled more than he had, and a few paid for victory with their lives, but it was as though he'd never really been necessary.

The man wondered if, in this strange world, he'd ever been born at all. So he flew to his hometown, and inquired after his birth name. (He'd changed enough in appearance over the years that he was confident no one would guess the connection.) Such a person had been born, the man learned. But the event that had given him his powers in his late teens had, in this warped world, never happened. The man's other self had grown up bitter, convinced that somehow his birthright had been stolen from him, and always blaming his bad luck on others. The other self had never amounted to anything, and claiming that a "conspiracy" blocked everything he tried to accomplish. Finally, the other self had died of hypothermia, homeless and friendless.

The last thread snapped inside the former hero. He understood now. Weaver had been jealous of him, of his greatness, and had deliberately stolen his power, his glory, his very history. Fine, then. Like the first fallen angel, Lucifer would gather other forgotten and fallen beings, and he would reclaim his heaven, if he had to battle the gods themselves.

Any time or dimension traveler even looking at Lucifer will know he's bad, bad news--he disrupts time and dimensional powers in his immediate vicinity, with unpredictable results.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Commander Wilhelm Brightdawn had pledged his very life in the pursuit of cleansing the sin and corruption that had taken control of his homeland. He had fought the unholy abominations that had blighted his world for thirty plus years, serving the Crusade as loyally as any true warrior of the Light should. But even in these dark times, it incensed him at how willfully blind and ignorant some of his fellow humans were even in the time of war -- turning their backs on the true way of the Light, consorting with lesser species, false gods and dark magicks! (though, Wilhelm did hold out hope for some in the once-great capital of Stormwind -- at least some there were not buying the talks of peace with those monstrosities across the sea)

Still, even the Crusade was not immune to the taint of evil. But once it was rooted out (no thanks to those willfully blind corrupted ones who let it in in the first place!), Wilhelm and a small brigade took it upon themselves to slay the source of the evil once and for all. They would have to leave their world to fight in a twisted dimension for who knows how long, but Wilhelm and his men considered it a fair price to pay. If they could destroy this demonic legion, then perhaps they could better cull the abominations and undead plaguing their homeland afterward (and then, of course, purge the non-humans and the "corrupted"/willfully blind humans who insist on this so-called "tolerance").

In the Outland, Brightdawn's brigade fought on, forgotten by the world they pledged to save, swept up as always in war, scourges, and cataclysms. But even in the Outland, Wilhelm still found evidence of other enemies as bad and as twisted as demons. Druids, a coalition of those lesser perverted races -- those who would sell out and enslave humanity for the sake of uncaring nature! In the ruins of the fel-tainted temple, Wilhelm and his men, backed by the true power of the Light, showed no mercy to those worshippers of a false god. So of course in their desperation, the druids must have made an infernal bargain to try to gain the victory at any cost. The skies of the nether screamed and rained down fire as the Outland seemed to tear itself apart...

Wilhelm didn't know how long he drifted. His men were gone, as were the lands he once knew. This new world was strange, but he could sense the taint and corruption already -- perversions and abominations pretending to be human and worse! But the Light had not abandoned him. The Light have saved him, guiding him to this man called Lucifer. He pledged his sword and skills to him, vowing to purge this world of its taint whether it liked it or not. Perhaps he had been too passive back on Azeroth. But here on Earth, Scarlet will not make the same mistakes!

Scarlet is a master swordsman, backed by what he considers to be holy magic (for Warcraft fans, think Retribution paladin). He can do some minor healing magic, but prefers channeling his abilities for more smiting purposes. He is a xenophobic pro-human bigot, albeit he can rationalize mostly human-looking mutants as magic users of some sorts. Anything that looks undead, demonic/devilish or obviously NOT Human (including cyborgs, aliens and the like), he will show no mercy towards -- especially the former two.

If/when he ever discovers Kolben Wildmane of the Zodiac, Scarlet will do everything in his power to destroy the Tauren druid, though first he wants to find out if any of his men survived. Of course, that will mean torture -- something Wilhelm is eagerly looking forward to. Should Lucifer ever falter in Scarlet's eyes, he could become a prime candidate for recruitment of the Guardian Angels.

Judd Crater has always walked the fringes of society. He has delved into things men were meant to know. He has turned aside the shadows with a match light. He has lost something. He doesn't know what.

Worse some of the things he has dealt with want to repay him for the things he has dealt them.

Only he doesn't know who should be more scared of the coming confrontation since he isn't quite the man he used to be.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

I got 2 characters for 1 that'll speed things up a little.

Jim and Jennifer Spencer were siblings that had fallen through the cracks. Despite, not being twins, they seemed to have a telepathic link to each other, even when Jennifer was just born, (Jim was 2 years older). Their childhood was remarkably horrible. Their parents were abusive. The other kids at school either ignored them or worse make fun of the "white trailer trash" with the dirty clothes and the bruises. Social workers and teacher were just oblivious. AS the years went they delved deeper into their telepathic conversations, rarely talking. Jim became very protective of his little sister, making sure he took most of the beatings when their parents went on a drunken rampage. It didnt help her much despite his efforts, with their link she could feel what was happening to him.

When Jim turned 16, they had enough and ran away. They survived for awhile on the streets through thievery. Then they got some kind of boost in powers. Jim gained the ability to turn invisible at will. Jennifer gained the ability to detect any kind of "aura" of living creatures. They became Hide & Seek.

Soon, they moved their crimes forward with these new found powers. With their overwhelming hate of the society that abandoned them they became serial killers. Typically, Seek would find an "aura" she thought would be to their liking. Then, act as bait, to lure them in, and Hide would invisibly sneak in and render them unconcious. Once subdued they would torture their victim (to them it was more playing cat to the victim's "caught mouse" until they got bored and finished them). In some ways, they were surprisingly helpful in a vigilantish kind of way. Many of their victims were serial rapist and thuggish muggers, and other dregs of society. But, that was coincidence. On at least one occasion, it was apparently just an old lady who just wanted to help the poor little teenage girl.

Eventually, they were caught. Special arrangements were made to keep their powers from being of use in escape (Hide's invisiblity would have been obviously useful) and they were of course seperated to men's and women's facilities.

Then one day near the facility that Seek was at. Lucifer was on one of his schemes and passed near. She felt a wierd sensation. Not knowing what it was she let it go. A couple of minutes later a guard came making his rounds. She glared at him, their eyes met, and the guard froze.

Seek: So are you going to let me out.

*The guard opened the door*

Seek surprised took it as a chance to escape. two other guards tried to stop her.

Seek: WHy dont you just ignore me?

*the guards walked off* Somehow, she had a new power, to freeze people with her eyes and mind control them.

Outside, Lucifer was in a fight with 3 superheroes. Seek threw a rock at one. He looked at spotted, their eyes locked.....

Seek: Go jump off a bridge.

*the super flew off to the bridge on the other side of the city*

Seek then locked eyes with a second one telling him to "go smash a building". The brick went off to do just that with 3rd and last super went to stop him.

Lucifer offered her a position in the team he was creating. She was game as long as long as they went and got her brother. She telepathically sent the message they were coming.

An hour later at the men's facility. Lucifer and Seek broke in. By the time they reached Hide he was zapping guards with electricity. He had experienced the same sensation a minute earlier when Lucifer got near his facility.

They retitled themselves Shock & Awe. (they still had their old powers to by the way)

Tactics: They prefer to work in tandem, not getting too far from one another. They are extremely reluctant to go on seperate missions. In a fight, Jennifer/Seek/Awe will usually try to lock eyes with opponents to freeze, although she cant always go further with stronger willed opponents. Freezing can sometimes be enough. In any case she will often when possible use the victims as puppets fighting against any other heroes on the battlefield. And while possible to avoid her gaze, it is hard to fight an opponent you cant look at. And it only takes a moment's look. Also her "seek" power is also useful for detecting when enemies are approaching to stop The Forgotten's current plans.

Jim/Hide/Shock will often guard his sister's back. He will stay invisible. And when, someone tries to hit her from behind (she would normally detect of course, but one weakness to her new power's is sometimes if she has someone under her control she cant concentrate on detecting "aura"). He will grab on to the unsuspecting ambusher and giving a shock to remember.

Incidentally, they are still very protective of one another, and if one gets injured the other will go quite berserk. Once when Shock was injured, Awe angrily turned the low-level superhero and 2 cops under her control their mind into incoherent babbling mush. And when Awe was injured Shock surrounded himself with a violent electrical storm that volted a several people not far enough away into smoldering corpses.

Appearance: Nothing too special. Early 20s. Shock is about 5"8 160-170, quite unassuming. Awe while pretty, is more in the cute than beautiful category. About 5"2 100 lbs. Both have light brown hair, and cold blue eyes.

When this dimension's version of Lucifer had died of hypothermia, they had been there. They had mugged him and took what little he had for kicks. And may have watched from a distance him suffering that night. Something about being the nearest ones to him when he died may have caused some wierd temporal shenanigans when they met the "real" Lucifer. They no nothing of this, of course.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Finally returning after a busy hiatus...

Carlos had a very hard life, exemplified by his job as a coal miner. He worked long, hard days far below the surface. The coal mining company paid only lip service to safety measures, so even those miners that avoided minor cave-ins or other accidents on the job, typically succumbed to lung cancer or other health problems along the way.

Then there came the day of the explosion and fire. Nobody knows how it happened, but one day everything went wrong, there was a massive explosion, and the main shaft collapsed. The lucky ones were those who died outright in the explosion or tunnel collapses. Fourteen unfortunate miners survived the initial lethal effects, only to die slowly of starvation. After weeks, only Carlos was left. He (and his workmates) had been presumed dead, so no rescue was forthcoming. Alone in the dark, Carlos' former faith turned to bitterness and anger. He vowed to get revenge -- first on the mining company for their crimes against their employees, and then on everybody else for abandoning him.

It was as he wandered aimlessly in the darkness that he came upon a... presence. It was like a patch of ultimate darkness, and when he touched it, he felt it move into his body. Soon, he discovered that he was sharing his body with a minor demonic entity, one that could not affect the real world without a willing host. The entity offered Carlos a deal: freedom from the mine, in exchange for half of the remainder of Carlos' life. Carlos would control his body during the day, and the entity would have free reign at night. Carlos agreed, with the stipulation that he would have access to the entity's powers during the day.

As Shadowreach, Carlos has control over darkness -- generating darkness fields, stepping from one shadow to another, blinding others, and so on. This also includes some fright-related and rage-inducing psionic powers. (Carlos refers to this as "controlling the darkness in mens' souls.") The entity, now effectively bound to Carlos permanently, has also made him stronger, tougher, and faster than normal (though not to brick or speedster levels) and he no longer requires food or sleep.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Alan Fletcher was one of the normal guys at school. Nothing special. Not good enough at sports to make the teams, not bright enough to stand out academically. Until the day he got his powers. Crossing the road with a bunch of his year, a truck came at them suddenly at speed. Thinking on his feet he pushed one of the popular girls out of the way but he himself was hit by the truck and flew through the air landing on the front of a car 30 feet away. He was alive but almost miraculously unhurt.

This however was the start of his troubles. He was accused of having the powers all along and of staging the accident; the girl he saved said that the only reason he save her was that he wanted to sleep with her and he would not have done it if she was ugly; the local preacher said that his powers were perhaps not a gift of god but the Devil himself; the jocks tried to beat him up but their fists and kicks could not harm him and he was warned by the principal or coach that if he retaliated then he would face expulsion and imprisonment; the cops tagged him as a trouble maker even though he made a point to avoid them; the local bikers figured he was in bed wioth the cops because of all the attention they gave him. The ostracism continued as he tried to go to college and lead a normal life. Although he graduated he was avoided by most of the student body as a freak. And because he had superpowers he could not go into the army or any of the other forces. He failed the psych exam for those that did have superpower members. He struggled to find a job and managed to land a job as a janitor. Again people ignored him or kept him at arms length. Alan persisted as one of the people on the fringes of society. Because of his invunerability he could not get tattooes or piercings.

And life passed him by.

Until he met the others all in the course of a week. It was Shadowreach that identified that Alan had powers. When Lucifer went to ask him to join, Alan simply said 'I'm in' before he even started speaking. Alan became Indefatigable. He is not the strongest brick around but oh boy is he hard to hurt.

Shock and Awe will often duck behind him so that he gets hit and not them. They did it for a joke until Shadowreach and Lucifer pointed out that Alan would tire of their antics and just step out of the way. Alan smiled at them thinly. Since then they have behaved.

Alan gets on well with Scarlet; the latter sees him as a living shield. But as someone who has lost everything Alan can sympathise.

Alan was never that unlucky before the accident but someone made sure that his life went down the toilet. When Alan finds out who that is, then that person will die.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

"You know, Mister Lucifer, you don't have to convince me about other realities and how life 'should have been'. Believe me, I've been there!" He called himself Last Laugh, idly stroking one of his modified guns (this one capable of firing a flesh-eating acid) before setting it back in the holster. He grinned coldly. "I hung out with a couple of idiots once. We were pulling pranks, stealing stuff. We -- well, I -- did it with style. Those two jackwipes though they were doing it to 'stick it to The Man'. Me, I was in it for the power. They had no stomach to REALLY 'stick it'.

"We got caught by VIPER. 'Join or Die'. Not much of a choice, right? I'm partial to the whole 'not dying' thing. But VIPER, they were in it for the power too. I liked that. I liked the fear I was raising. Yeah, well, my two 'buddies' got cold feet and set VIPER up to get caught by a bunch of capes with their pants literally down." He snorted. "So it was back to small stuff. [bLEEP] that. I did what I had to do. Shot the cop, shot my soon-to-be-ex-partner. Got sent to the slammer. VIPER got me out thankfully. Got me my guns..." The next gun he patted brought a smile to his face (hallucinogenic gas gun). "Didn't like the name they gave me, but it was something."

He shrugged.

"I already told you about the raid on the lab. HADRON collider or something like that. Cape fight, explosion, yadda yadda yadda. Next thing I know, I'm picking myself up out of an alley and hoofing it to the nearest VIPER Nest at the 7-11. And it actually IS just a 7-11! No Nest anymore and the [bLEEP] clerk is telling me Halloween is next week. I tell you, there is nothing more satisfying than putting an old-fashioned bullet between some snot-nosed punk's eyes. Any way, the cash got me enough for a change of clothes and room at a motel. Then I did what you did, Mister Lucifer. Did research and eventually looked myself up..."

Last Laugh chuckled, shaking his head in amused disbelief. "I find out I'm a [bLEEP]ing hack writer in this world! I write [bLEEP]ing crap that makes 'Twlight' look like Shakespeare! Huh, they don't have 'Twilight' here...I could make some money then. Anyway, I tie hack!Me up, torture him, get all the info I can from him -- you know, passwords, bank accounts, my 'agent' -- all the good stuff. And then I kill. I did him a favor, if you think about it. Apparently, he STILL couldn't get laid! Then came the cool stuff..."

The grin was back on his face, cold and cruel as his hand dropped to stroke a third gun (thermite charges). "My ol' 'buddies' were in this reality too. Losers, miserable losers who have no connection to me. And I get to thinking, 'What if I pop 'em?' I mean, I've read the funny pages. I go to take 'em out, they'll just turn into those [bLEEP]ing clowns all over again. 'Nature abhors a vacuum' and all that jazz, right? Drive-by on Eddie -- POP! Clean as a whistle, nothing. Got away with it. Andy...Andy, I took my time with. Screaming and crying, begging me to tell him why.

"'Because I want to. And because I CAN.'"

Last Laugh leaned back, grinning. "Nature abhors a vacuum? Maybe. But I think in this world, nature abhors those clowns more."

Last Laugh doesn't ever want to go back to his original world. He's a petty, small man with a vicious streak. You may or may not have heard of him and his former partners. He was once better known as Popgun -- and was a member of CLOWN.

New Team: Red Right Hands

Number: 6

Theme: They're not so much a team as a loose coalition with an understanding. Each of them came to the idea that it's better to have the public think other people are in charge to take the blame. The Hands are instead considered by the public and authorities to be mere henchmen, loyal servants, majordomos, even girl fridays at times. Yet they manipulate their chosen villain and the public perfectly. Their villains don't necessarily work together (though behind the scenes the Hands themselves do have an arrangement). Some of them could even be manipulating a hero. When creating a Hand, list as well the villain/hero who getting manipulated

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Bismark is the archetypal German villain. Not a Nazi but one who is fastidious and well organised. Assisted by his henchman Richthofen, the Prussian Overlord goes about his never ending quest to take over Europe and the the World !

And that is how it is despite the number of times that Bismark has finally been killed, he always comes back. Why ? Well there are vats waiting for Richthofen to grow a new one is why. And then update the memory and hey presto ! we are off and running again !

Richthofen is aware that cloning is illegal and that is one reason he is keeping quiet about what is going on. He knows what happened to the original Bismark but isn't saying one way or the other.

In doing some research while keeping a low profile between Bismark appearances, Richthofen came across the others and the coalition took shape. The name came from the Nick Cave song and finally stuck when some of them were watching the X-Files episode Ascension when Duane Barry got pulled over by the state trooper and the song is playing on the show. They took it as a sign.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

I had an idea for a villian, a 10 year old little girl with mental powers. She may have the body and mind (mostly) of a 10 year old but she is not nice. She controlls others to make them do what she wants. In fact if a hero team encounters her it is most likely with a dozen or so normal people around her trying to protect their best friend. (Watch the players work at trying not to hurt the normal civilians.)

I call her Little Cindy. She is not hard to hurt when you hit her but the problem would be that she has her "protectors" who are more than willing to step in front of her to block any danger and take a bullet for her.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Hi, welcome to the boards, Star!

Cute idea. Now, how does she fit into the theme we're doing at the moment?

LoL tbh no idea. I just had this idea for a villian to mess with players, both in game and out of game. To make the players think about their actions. I did not read all 43 pages of this topic I just wanted to throw out a villian idea for people to use if they wanted.

Understood, and I for one am always looking for a good villain idea. That you posted the whole writeup is a bonus.

As Bob said, the first post in the thread describes how this goes. However, some people have gotten quite creative here, and you might find some of the posts throughout the thread both entertaining and thought provoking for character concepts.

The current theme is:

New Team: Red Right Hands

Number: 6

Theme: They're not so much a team as a loose coalition with an understanding. Each of them came to the idea that it's better to have the public think other people are in charge to take the blame. The Hands are instead considered by the public and authorities to be mere henchmen, loyal servants, majordomos, even girl fridays at times. Thus far, only one member has been submitted for this team. Whomever posts member #6 gets to propose the next team name, theme, and number of members.
