Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

What happened to BilgeRat's eye is a matter of conjecture. Some say it was eaten by a mermaid. Some say it was part of a sacrifice to some dark god for power. Most say he got drunk one night and fell on something. What isn't up for debate is that his power over water makes him rather valuable. From practically halting vessles trying to escape, to knocking down defenders with gouts of water, he can render most ships defensless before the Jolly Rodgers even arrive. Though oddly for someone with such power obver twater, he seems oddly afraid of taking baths.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Shade works very closely with Captain Grace, and his loyalty is unquestionable. His abilities at stealth and disguise seem to haunt the line between supremely skilled and super powered and he is reputed to have his own network of spies.

His missions have included infiltrating law enforcement or naval operations to gain valuable intelligence and infiltrating the crews of potential targets to sabatoge them and then signal the Jolly Roger crew, but the pirates have an almost superstitious dread that his keen eyes and ears are always around - especially if he is nowhere visible. As long as he's working for the Captain, unhappy pirates may jump ship but there is unlikely to be talk of mutiny.

The palindromedary wonders where Shade came from, but that's quite deliberately a mystery

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

How do you know that no ninja is sneaking into the group? Perhaps they have already infiltrated the team? :sneaky:

The reason is I hate all the Pirates vs Ninjas things and wanted to keep it out of the thread. It is a tad overdone.

Crew

One of the oddest paranormals in the world is Crew. He's a duplicator except that all his duplicates look different and act different but they can all combine into one person. However they never look like the same person when recombined and the recombining order makes no difference. It's ideal for an escape as all the 'duplicates' can become one. Crew can become 5, 10 and even as many as 50, maybe even more. It depends on what Bloody Grace needs. Another oddity is that they have different skills, different physiques and even different colours but they are always male. And loyal to the captain. To a point. Indeed a duplicate might go independent every now and again. But look where that gets you....

Now it seems we are passed the minimum again and approaching maximum and no-one else wants to come up with a new team ?

So in honour of poor Log-Man, we have had two sets of heroes based on this.

Shout out to Log-Man for his love of the big guys (and big gals) as well as a test to see how much variety we can get despite a 'common power' restriction. The next team is "The League Of Giants!" though much of the public has insisted on shortening it to "LOG" . The League has five members plus one base outside of town. Each member is a giant or can be. Some can control their growth, others are stuck at their immense size all the time (minimum 10 feet tall). LOG was founded to give those with growth powers access to comrades who would understand the obstacles that face the 'Overly Endowed of Stature' superhero. Each team mate knows what is is like to have to watch where you step even as you take out the latest threat to the city, and how folks you are trying to save are likely to freak out if you walk past their sixth story (or higher) window. No crime fighting giant is refused membership, whatever their origin or nature. It's almost as much support group and social club as it is superhero team. All that's required is a big heart... in all senses of the word.

Time for a villain team as the villains respond to these threats. The Dread Titans are villainous giants brought together by various villains to destroy the legacy of the League of Giants. Surprisingly for a team put together at the last minute, they get on well together despite owing alliegance elsewhere.

There are 6 members (they have to outnumber LOG) and you could do the base as well.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Titanium IS the base. A gigantic robot that can transform into a base. Yes, he is from another planet. No he technically isnt a transformer "like in the movies". He actually isnt a robot at all, but a cyborg. As a brain from a long-dead galactic civilization is hidden somewhere within the structure. (he actually was going to go with the name Titanic....until he saw the movie.

And he may be the actual cause of his races extinction, he will neither confirm or deny of course.

Note: I wasnt sure how big to make him, considering the possible sizes of the rest of the team. Big enough that all can live inside his transformed state is the only estimate I can give.

He could be big and have "growth" for his base form at the same time. That, or a "normal giant sized" Robot plus an "extra giant sized" Base Form. Or it's one of these "bigger on the inside than the outside" things.

Leaning towards the last, but not that much bigger. I did envision him being fairly insanely huge.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Oberon Shadwell is Overshadow, who has the ability to steal other people's size and mass and add it to his own. In other words, as he gets bigger and stronger, the target gets smaller and weaker. He specializes in fighting much smaller opponents, but is quite capable of holding his own against other giants.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

You know in the old says it was much easier. You could build a giant robot and no-one was any the wiser until it attacked. Now you try to get the hydraulics and that gets red flagged; the tubing for gauss cannons raises eyebrows; optics for lasers makes the FBI suspicious and don't even try building a nuclear power source as the Nuclear agencies will get wind of it. And don't talk to me about satillites that go looking for these sorts of things. What is a mad scientist to do in such times ? Well if you are Dr Nymax! you approach the problem from another angle. When word came out that a team to oppose LOG was being set up, he was asked to help. It was when they were talking about it that the bad doctor realised the solution to his dilema. Imbue a giant with energy projection powers and voila the mobile platform for destruction. And they could not be destroyed as Human Rights people would get really upset. So it was that Dr Nymax! came to add energy powers to the Gerontes giving the team artillery support.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

The Dark Illuminati decided to contribute as well and came up with a force of nature for the team. The Mound is a large, legless figure that rolls into combat on its stomach. It looks like a giant sickly, yellow cone albeit one with a round bald head with two misshappen large pits where its eyes should be and a similar one for its mouth. Two large arms come of the figure and these batteranyone stupid enough to close with it. Much amusement is to be had as ranged attacks bounce off the flabby hide. And piercing attacks don't seem to do anything. The real benefit is that The Mound is a summoned entity so when you are finished it shrinks down to a small piece of soapstone carved in its likeness.

Humm...we are still doing pirates? Cool. Hear is my contribubation.

Dread Jolly Lobert was one of the original pirate captions from time imortal. Unforcently for him, his ship sank and he was cursed to be undead till he sailed the seven seas for 700 years. But since his own dinngy is not seaworthy, even as a ghostship, and he spent most of his time as an underwated ghost till being brought back to the surface by this loos band of pirates, he joined them as...well...Dread Jolly Lobert (he's not going ta be changing no name just because he's un-deades now, is he?)

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

For the Dread Titans:

Hurricane wields the power of storm to bring down the League of Giants! He projects thunder, lightning, tornadoes, and water from the body of stormclouds that he constructs around himself. This body can grow up to a height of 100 meters tall! When not enlarged, he looks like the very archetype of mundanity. No one really knows where he came from.

Hurricane is a mighty avatar of Oranos(Uranus), father of the ancient Greek Titans. He was angry at the world for prospering under those who deposed him, and manifested a an avatar of destruction to avenge himself upon it.

New team:

Academia Diabolica

6 villains who are themed after college faculty. For example, they might have a Dean, and certainly some sort of professor. Also, their base, the Diabolical Academy, should be described.

He loves using others to do his dirty work, and loves monie more than pure acadamia.

Technically we have 5 giants and a base. We need another giant

OK. Been away for a few days for work and I get lost. Hears my giant...

Nar is his name. A green alien from a huge planet somewhere out there, Nar crashed on this planet long ago in pre-history. He wields his dreaded "Hand of Nar" (an energy gun capable of many settings). He loves it here, feared by the population and considered a god a long time ago that he never wants to return to his home planet.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Heatherington Hall

From the outside no-one would suspect the esteemed Heatherington Hall of being the Diabolical Academy. Indeed many are the students who have entered its halls and gone onto careers elsewhere. Some have bad memories of the place or a bad feeling about it but then that's to be expected. There are detection devices that give out when heroes are near or the forces of DEMON. The real part of the academy exists just out of phase with the Hall so it is easy to make people appear and disappear. For reasons that are clear the Academy sports towers, portcullises and all the acrutements of a castle like crossbow and arrow slits and murder holes. Tech does work on the Academy but the Registrar really does not like it. Here evil classes can be given or taken but don't start making comparisons with Hogwarts or you will have to explain it to the Registrar. When not used for teaching the academy can be used to teleport to people to a number of locations both here and 'elsewhere' or to plot the next criminal plan.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

The Registrar

If you can imagine a large red demon with huge bull like horns wearing a gown like a professor, then you have a pretty good idea what The Registrar looks like. He built the Academy literally and looks after people coming into the halls and graduation. Few people can see him as a demon but it has spooked more than a few that did. But it's amazing what you can get away with if you say that you were cursed by gypsies so that some people see you as something else or that someone spiked the water with LSD. He provides the muscle to some extent but he serves the Headmaster as a (somewhat) loyal lieutenant. The latter believes he is too concerned with maintaining the cover of the place but as The Registrar makes clear he built the place from the ground up both the academy and the hall and he put the hearts and souls of quite a few people into it. Including the arcitects and several of the builders who upset him. As a traditionalist he made it look like an old castle ('well you have to have standards and the design is a classic'). He tends to follow the leads of the others and makes sure the place can pass muster if heroes turn up. If DEMON try and turn up, The Registrar has heroes turn up to fight them. He has several stored for each such occassion.

Just don't mention J K Rowling as he hates those books.

The Bursar holds the purse strings at the Academia Diabolica, and while he's been known to strangle people with them, that's hardly the limit of his powers. No one else knows the entire extent of the Academy's investments, holdings, and accounts; not even the Registrar knows the numbers to all the secret accounts.

Although nothing alive (or undead, artificially intelligent, etc) can go into the Bursar's purse, anything that goes in the purse (which has an apparently limitless capacity) stays there until the Bursar decides to take it out - and while powerful magicians or mentalists have been known to overcome the Bursar's mental defenses and control his actions, the purse strings shut tight for the duration of the external compulsion or influence. The purse itself has been stolen but won't open for anyone else either.

The Bursar is a master of bribery and corruption, readily playing on the greed of others, and is notoriously corrupt while being strangely ethical in a limited sense; he never "skims" the institution's funds, or funds entrusted to him, and the rest of the faculty are sure he's never embezzled anything, but he will approve or disapprove expenditures based on who is bribing him and with how much. But if you want to keep your money safe but available when you want it, leave it with the Bursar; for a nominal fee he'll hold it indefinitely and for a further nominal fee even refrain from revealing that you left money with him or how much. Once bribed, he does "stay bought" - he may play two or more sides sometimes to drive up a bribe, but once he commits to accept a bribe he entertains no counteroffers.

The Bursar is responsible for enforcing the Academia Diabolica's financial rules. If one member of the faculty tries to "hold out" on the others or retain a greater than agreed upon share of the proceeds of some operation, the Bursar is likely to figure it out somehow and on this matter he does NOT take bribes.

Adam Worthless aka Professor Moriarty holds the Fagin Chair in Antisocial and Misbehavioral Sciences, making him the official head of that Department responsible for most mundane branches of crime from pickpocketing to computer hacking to assassination. What he can't do himself, one of his adjunct professors can surely handle.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Better get this in before Lucius takes all the slots. :) And since you mentioned Hogwarts and JK Rowling, DT, you know I had to do it...

When you're a professor who graduated with honors and degrees in history and geography, you'd think you'd at least get taken seriously while looking for a teaching position. But when your given name is Neville Longbottom, it seems people just can't separate fact from fiction. (And if you think the Registrar hates the Harry Potter books, don't even ask Neville about them!) Desperate, he legally changed his last name to Long (he thought about changing his first name to Steve) and got a position at Heatherington Hall. It only took the students a few years to learn his true last name, and the torment began anew.

One day, Neville approached the Headmaster, inquiring about the Academia Diabolica. When the Headmaster tried to read Neville's mind, he found himself (mentally) spending a few minutes in Pompeii during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Just before the pyroclastic surge was about to reach him, the Headmaster came to, still sitting at his desk safe from harm. "I shouldn't try that again, were I you," said Neville as he took a seat. "Next time you may find yourself in Hiroshima, or perhaps a jumper off the North Tower of the World Trade Center."

Still reeling from his near-brush with death, the Headmaster asked, "How did you learn about the Academy?"

Neville simply smiled. "I saw a few of the spectacular things our faculty and students will do. You can imagine my surprise to look out from another's eyes a year in the future and see myself standing there directing an operation that results in... well, I'll withhold the details for now. Suffice to say, the results were rather... spectacular."

Intrigued, the Headmaster took Neville in as a member of the Academia Diabolica. As Cataclysm, he has limited precognition and retrocognition, with the target time and place dictated either by a historic calamity (the bigger the disaster, the easier it is for him to focus in on it), or something in proximity to his own life. He has a strong Danger Sense, allowing him to avoid many attacks, although when it warns him of a direct attack it sometimes results in him taking a little "sympathy pain" from his future self.

As the Headmaster learned, Cataclysm can also project a target's mind backward or forward into somebody at a natural or man-made disaster at any point in time (past or present). An expert on history, he has an amazing knowledge about past calamities and cataclysms. He has also "fished ahead", witnessing several future disasters (taking care to note when and where they happen so he can avoid being there when the time comes).
