Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

All the other kids teased Stephen Conroy, especially about his collection. "How do you like playing with your dolls, Stevie?" "They're not dolls, they're action figures!"

Conroy had one of the most extensive collections of Action Guy figures and accessories in the country, if not the world. He not only had the complete collection of figures (including the Commemorative models); he also had their various outfits, weapons, equipment, and even their vehicles: the Scorpius tank, Spartus APC, the DUKW amphibious vehicle, submarine, VTOL aircraft... needless to say, both his room and much of his basement was packed with the boxes, with everything in pretty good condition, despite Conroy’s frequent playing with them and imagining them going into battle against Professor Z, Dr. Grangrene, and the bullies at Conroy’s school.

And then came the day that the Vultures of Naples came to town. It was shortly after the team’s inception, with Cavalier and Lightning Felinus attempting to steal the receipts form the local We-B-Toys store. Optimus One arrived to try and stop them, but he was outnumbered and taking a lot of damage when he fell to his knees in front of Conroy.

Without thinking, the teen shouted, “ACTION GUY!!! ATTACK!!!” And to his surprise, they did. Two dozen Action Guy figures burst out of their boxes, grabbed their plastic weapons, and began firing at the two villains. Though their weapons were all apparently just molded plastic, in the hands of the animated Action Guys they fired real (if somewhat tiny) bullets and grenades. And when the 1/6 scale helicopter took to the air, the missiles it fired weren’t tipped with foam, but instead small explosives. Shocked, the two Vultures retreated (especially when the two tanks rolled out), and a grateful Optimus One offered Conroy a position as one of the Owls of Rome. The teen gladly accepted, taking the name Action Figure as his nom de guerre. He can animate up to a dozen figures at once, though the more he animates, the more he has to divide his attention to direct them properly.

Lupus Northstar, Space Warrior, was recruited by Athena. With blaster in one hand, lightning sword in the other, and his ship, the trusty X-15 (and its AI, Zor-11), Lupus fights against his arch foe, Lord Darkke (recently recruited by Mars).

Sam Catcher and his yellow squirrel, Bit, were recruited for the alternate forms he assumes by opening special boxes on his belt, and his pet's electrical powers. Sam is called the Pocket Monster for what he can do.

What he tries to hide is Bit is the brains of the duo.

Krystal likes to think of herself as the heart of the Owls (Zealot, of course, despises this attitude). Of course, when you're the latest teen pop star loved by millions, it's easy to get the world on your side! It helps that she has an amazing ability to enter the fray of battle and come out without a scratch. Totally outrageous!

The fact that she's a sentient hologram may have something to do with that. Krystal, however, thinks she's actually real.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Woody Hanks is the field leader of the Owls. A long-time lover of old westerns (he's not old enough to have experienced the originals, but you should see his collection of DVDs and BlueRay discs), he dresses up like a Wild West cowboy and tries to introduce those old-fashioned ideals to the next generation. He's a natural born leader, directing the Owls in battle against many foes, though his specialty is helping them stop the Vultures. Known as Buckaroo, he's also pretty handy with a pistol (which only *looks* like a .45 revolver, but has an internal magazine of various types of ammo).

As tempting as it is to do another tie-in with the villain theme thread, I don't want to over-do a good thing.

New Team: Capital Contingent

Members: 5

Theme: A Washington DC team jointly sponsored by various corporations, critics claim this very well-funded and well-equipped team's heroes exist mainly as PR tools for their parent companies.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

More than one hero has worn the famous (environmentalists say infamous) Rig suit. Sure, it burns an awful lot of fossil fuel, but it also has all the protection and power projection of an Abrams tank in bipedal form. The Rig armor is somewhere in that mid-point between personal power armor and mech -- more than 12 feet tall and really heavy. The energy lobby acknowledges that the Rig armor isn't the greenest armor on the planet, but as industry lobbyist Major Spillins once said, "It's not like those heroes with the cold fusion power cores are sharing that technology with us. We've asked. Trust me when I tell you that we're doing all we can to transition responsibly to greener technology such as fuel cells, solar, and so-on. But viable technological solutions are at least a decade down the road. In the meantime, we need to use the oil and coal we've got so that we can maintain the lifestyle we all enjoy. The future might be fusion, but the present belongs to petro!"

The current wearer of the Rig armor is Don Yurgus Masc, a photogenic decathlete wash-out with a great smile, good intentions, grand ambitions, and pliable sense of moral outrage.

Miss Kansas is just a sweet lil' farm girl -- whose family has gotten rich thanks to agriculture subsidies. Don't get her mad though as she can summon tornado-force winds. It's only a coincidence that some of her dad's political rivals' property got flattened by a twister! Shoot, that's just nature for you...or maybe an act o' God!

The hero known as Zee likes to think of himself as the leader of the Capital Contingent, though his teammates may think differently. This doesn't stop him from giving a lot of orders, though. This incredibly trained and well-armed security specialist was assigned to the Contingent from Xi Services (formerly known as Darkwater International, a controversial security contractor) when the hero team was first being formed. His battle armor (a prototype being considered for use by Xi operatives worldwide) not only provides protection for himself but can project a force field around one other person within 10 meters of Zee. He has a large cache of weapons to choose from -- mostly commercially-available ones, though he occasionally has access to prototypes under development by numerous weapon designers around the world.

Anodyne is sponsored by the health insurance industry. She's got the latest experimental healing devices, able to treat almost any injury or illness that's just been suffered. They do not, however, work on pre-existing conditions (i.e. Physical Complications.) Also, all her powers take Extra Time, stepping down the time chart one step for each die of Healing or Dispel Disease needed, and two steps for each adder (such as "can reattach limbs/head.") And you'd better have your "co-pay" handy, or the billing is murder. But other than that, Ann O. Dyne is a perfectly sweet young woman.

Okay, Teen Champions time: A youthful team of enthusiastic Japanese heroes--maybe a little too enthusiastic, with the result that their seniors have sent them on a tour of America just to get them out of their seniors' hair. Nekketsu Yuusha-tachi ("Hot-blooded Heroes") are a group of six who should be based on manga and anime genre conventions and tropes. And they're all really really enthusiastic.

Hikage Kamen ("Shadow Mask") is the dark, brooding leader of the group. A very attractive man ("bishi" by anime stanards), Shadow Mask is a gifted swordsman and acrobat with the ability to summon shields of darkness to protect him or his allies. He doesn't know what drives him crazy more: his teammates or butt-clueless American anime fangirls who think he should be in a yaoi relationship with his male teammates.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Taro always had trouble getting up in the morning, because he'd stay up so late looking at his collection of ecchi magazines that he kept hidden from his older sister Tomiko, who was an university student. The only time Taro ever seemed to perk up came when some pretty girl would come into his homeroom or he'd chance upon a skirt flip. All this changed when Tomiko had enough of trying to get her baka brother up in the morning. At the university she designed a melon flavor energy drink for Taro and left it for his breakfast. It was a half asleep Taro who guzzled down the strange tasting concoction. While it did have a strong melon aftertaste, Taro did feel like he had a lot more energy. After saying good by to the apartment, Taro had a quick step to his stride, which soon became a jog, followed by a sprint, ending up with him lost in Wakkanai, the northernmost city in Japan. A long train ride later he was back in Tokyo. Once again home, he found a note from Tomiko, that she was going to France on a research project, but she left him a supply of her melon energy drink. Taro go to thinking after that. The next day at his school the girls had to watch their skirts, because a new super-hero was making his way through the hallways, and he called himself Go!Go!Go!

"Amy" Takahashi- "daughter" of Dr. Takahashi. One of the world's foremost geneticist. She was his "creation". A splicing of human and cat DNA. (because all Japanese teams need a catgirl). Basically, what you would expect of a cat. She is a great leaper, and has high speed and agility (not to mention claws, fangs, and superstealth. Unfortunately, the negatives come with that. She rarely listens to orders. Sleeps too much. And for some unknown reason likes to sneak up on unsuspecting teammates in down time. On the other hand, she has shown to be a quick learner. Having learned her away around the computer. (course, she is just as liable to playher favorite computer games rather than research whatever is needed to be researched at the moment)

Oh and she seems to have some wierd "Nine lives" regneration power. Where she seemingly comes back from near death. Though it is unknown if it is just nine lives or limitless.

The team mascot is known simply as Saru ("Monkey") and appears to be a normal, albeit fairly intelligent, macaque (snow monkey). Saru loves to get into trouble, especially if doing so will get on Shadow Mask's nerves. Saru also has a very expressive face, with an almost anime-like ability to show various strong emotions.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Musashi doesn't want to be a hero. He wants to do normal teenager stuff. You know, cram for exams, play video games, hang out at MOS Burger... All the cool stuff.

And he would. If he weren't the direct descendant of that Musashi. The "Book of Five Rings" Musashi. The two-swords Musashi. The "killed a guy with an oar 'cause a sword wasn't handy" Musashi.

But he is. And everybody knows it.

Wherever Musashi goes he gets challenged to duels. Ninja spring out of the woodwork trying to assassinate him at the worst possible moments (first kiss, during an exam, etc.). Worst of all? All the idiots who keep throwing themselves on their knees and begging Musashi to teach them how to be a great swordsman.

He just had to get out of Japan. He leaped at the opportunity to study abroad. And he hopes that he'll have no more need for the soul swords, the tattered yukata, and (worst of all) that awful hairstyle that all seem to emerge whenever he's threatened.

Maybe -- just maybe -- he can finish a game of Dance Dance Revolution without having to kill somebody.

Mecha is a teenage mutant with the power of mecha-merging. He can merge with any machine, converting it into a giant humanoid robot ("villians are attacking, sorry, I'll need to borrow your washing machine! IT'S MECHA TIME!"). weapons include launching fists, a blazing sword and missiles from his fingers, as well as weapons based on the machine he used (washing machine shoots a spin cycle attack). Often a bit too eager to engage his "Mecha" mode and launch attacks.

Okay, new team. An excentric scientist has decided to creat a team of super android heroes - they appear almost completely human on the outside, but inside the are robotic with inbuild powers and weapons systems. In order to grant them personalities, he had set up a computer program to research the psyche profiles, personalities, knowledge and histories of 5 of his favorite dead famous people (historic, pop culture, anything goes, as long as the real person is dead), and place these AIs into the bodies. The androids all believe they are the histroic figures reincarnated, and have the urge to fight crime with their seemingly unexplained powers.

Jeanne D'Arc

Or "Joan of Arc" to you English-speakers. In addition to being an excellent swordswoman and motivational speaker, Jeanne has High-Range Radio Hearing, able to tune in on any broadcast wavelength. What she's not aware of is that part of her computer mind is constantly scanning the airwaves, looking for information to correlate into "hunches" that Jeanne gets, sudden unexpected insights. She interprets this as "the voice of God" giving her divine guidance.

Jeanne still tends to dress in a mannish style, and hates the English. She's wary of fire, though she's actually nearly immune to the effects.

Elvis

We're not talking the fat years, folks. Looking like he stepped out of the 1968 TV special, this black leather-clad heartthrob is a black belt in karate -- and a half dozen other martial arts as well. His singing has a subsonic effect that can temporarily paralyze listeners, though this works more on women than men (regardless of sexual preference). Unfortunately, he goes through his power cells a lot quicker than the other androids and constantly needs to refuel.

The Renaissance Man shares the genius of the one and only Leonardo da Vinci. While Leonardo shares the same talent for art (and ambidexterity) as his inspiration, it's his abilities as a gadgeteer par excellence that really makes him shine. Fused with modern technology, Renaissance Man has given new life to the old Leonardo designs of such devices as portable siege engines, steam cannons, helicopters and solar powered laser beams. He has a friendly rivalry with Franklin of the Constitutional Guard, but both men respect each others' talents highly. Meanwhile, Quarterflash of the Tesla Rangers keeps pestering him for a team-up.

Renaissance Man also thinks Dan Brown is a deluded hack.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

He believes himself to be Ashoka the Great. The Indian Emperor of the Maurya Dynasty who first conquered nearly all of the Asian Subcontinent through ruthless military might and -- after witnessing firsthand the Kalinga War's terrible slaughter -- embraced Buddhism and nonviolence. A man of the sword who became a man of peace and tolerance. Who brought justice to a massive nation.

Just which Ashoka he believes himself to be depends on a little chip embedded in his positronic brain. Most of the time he is filled with an overwhelming sense of compassion and a desire to spread peace throughout the world. But when the chips are down, he "regresses" to an earlier Ashoka; a ruthlessly brilliant tactician who believes in overwhelming force used first, fast, and without warning.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

The fifth android emits a certain radiation that reprograms the neuro-electrical funtions of your brain and totally shuts down the area of your brain that creates aggression. Under the influence of his "Brainbeams" you become totally peaceful. Sometimes though this power malfunctions and messes up the brain of the opponent, causing amnesia, mild to heavy psychosis etc.

The android is called Gandhi and looks just like Mahatma, glasses, sandals etc.

Next team: four low level supers working as a SWAT team for the LAPD. All of them armed and dangerous.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Inez Garcia, aka Trigger, is supposed to be a police psychologist/hostage negotiator. Key words being "supposed to". But day by day and case by case, she sees villainous scum getting away with murder and worse. During one tense situation involving a crazed gunman holding his ex-wife and her second grade class hostage, she finally decided to use the power she had been keeping secret since she was a teenager.

And planted the suggestion that he should put a bullet in his brain before going after anyone else.

The police union applauded her privately, protecting her back while her superiors "strongly suggested" she be reassigned. Trigger, in turn, "strongly suggested" that Internal Affairs keep turning a blind eye towards her. She finds giving up her medical ethics for "justice" a surprisingly easy pill to swallow....
