Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

бетон (pronounced Byi-tone, translates to Concrete) is another brick -- more accurately, a cinderblock -- in the New Youth Pioneers. Always a big, tough youth, Gregor Chedorenkov grew up a bully and was already a member of a gang loosely associated with the Russian mob before he was 16. When his powers manifested, the mob found out and decided to force Gregor to have a more direct connection to their organization. Unfortunately, the people they sent to lean on his family took things too far, and his mother and younger brother both ended up getting killed.

Now without a family, he tried getting revenge on the mobsters by himself, but there's only so much one young man (even one able to lift tanks and shurg off machine-gun fire) can do against such an organization. So he joined the New Youth Pioneers, initially to get their aid in trashing mobsters. Of late, he has been increasingly been seeking redemption for his past crimes and other actions.

Alklha tells people he lives high above the earth since he is a giant winged dragon. The reality is he lives in Moscow disguised as a human grocer. Mikhail Dragonvitch smiles at his little joke.

Alkonost was born to sing. Too bad Olga Stannick's causes people to lose their minds, and objects to animate and dance around.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Illyana the Ever-Daring keeps changing her story. Sometimes she says she was trained by Baba Yaga. Other times she says she's the great-granddaughter of Koshchei the Deathless. Or she's the reincarnation of Rasputin. Or she came to Earth (for the sixth time) during the Tunguska Explosion. All the rest of the team knows for certain is that 1) whoever or whatever she is, she's not "all there" in the head and 2) she's one VERY powerful sorceress.

New team: The Redeemers

Number: 6

Motive/Theme: The Redeemers are all related (either by blood or former partnerships) to members in the Create a Villain Team thread. They do not necessarily have to be former villains themselves. They seek to restore their name/reputation/honor via heroic actions. They may even want to try to "save" the villain they're connected to.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Peter Potter was always a shy kid, especially when it came to girls. He could never work up the nerve to even talk to them, so he just stayed in the background and worshipped them from afar. Especially Irene Madden, the poor bullied smart girl -- he loved her most of all, but she never even noticed him. He dreamed of being a hero, protecting Irene from the taunts of Eve and the other popular kids, but could never work up the nerve. Besides, what could one scrawny, weak kid do?

And then, the accident happened.

When the Van de Graaf generator exploded, Peter was caught in the blast. He woke to find himself in another building across town (it took him weeks to learn that he had travelled there through the electrical lines). Peter learned that, for brief periods, he could turn himself into electricity (travelling like a lightning bolt, zapping those he touched). Finally, he could be a true hero! Taking the name Lightning Lad, he sought out Irene (who also disappeared in the explosion). He's pieced together enough clues to figure out his crush is now the villainous Lady Nothing, and seeks to eventually turn her from her criminal ways. In the meantime, he tries to do what he can to mitigate the crimes Lady Nothing commits.

Since I posted a listing in the Villain Theme Team thread, I thought I should post the counterpart for this thread as well. Here is the PDF of the teams (now up to #20) and members (currently over 100). I'll try and periodically update it as more get added.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

The Rebellion, when the Heavens warred against themselves. Yirown truly believed that the mortals were a mistake; that they would destroy all that the Almighty had wrought. That, while others of the order took this as an opportunity to usurp authority, he only saw this as a way to save Creation from itself.

He remembers the Fall so clearly. While others fled from Yirown's power, Michael himself, holding no fear or terror in his celestial form, broke his longbow, shattered his armor and cast him down in the depths of Hell.

He remembers waiting. In the infernal pits, some despaired and some schemed. Others raged and warred amongst themselves, thinking this prison as a new kingdom to conquer. Still others sought to tear down the mortal world in revenge. Yirown stayed by himself, in silent shame, taking no side.

Until one day he found his cell open. And the back of his mind, there was the whisper.

Michael has turned his back on humanity. Someone must stand against him. Someone must make him see what he has become...

On wings of grey, an angel of fear has taken flight. Shadow Wing wonders if he truly has a second chance to make up for what he was once -- and if the actions of Michael and the Guardian Angels are indeed wrong. Still, for every heroic deed he performs, he sees his wings ever-slowly lightening and his powers returning. The guilty and the evil will know what fear is once again!

Uriah of the Graveyard Shift, aka the Archangel Uriel, is keeping a close eye on Yirown's situation, though he has yet to reveal himself to him. He's a bit troubled about the situation as he didn't release Yirown from Hell. There are only two entities who have the authority to supersede Uriel -- and neither of Them are talking. Yirown may genuinely want to redeem himself, but whether his release is benevolent or for more malign purposes remains to be seen...

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Kamadeva brought his/her powers to bear on an ambitious young professor of computer science in Bangalore one day some six years ago. The man easily fell prey to Kamadeva's powers for a time, but could not be brought fully to heel. Something. Someone. A part of his mind escaped Kamadeva's clutches and clung to the beautiful woman next door. The woman he had known since both were children playing in the streets. They had grown together. Grown to love each other. Were planning to marry.

Kamadeva throttled the man, of course. But did a sloppy job of it. Kamadeva left him alive. No so his love. Kamadeva found that unfortunate young lady and killed her.

The young man recovered. He had every good reason to want revenge. But path led him away from vengeance and violence. Away from desire. "No desire, no suffering." Bodhi was born that day. He lives without desire of any kind. He is compassion itself. And the one he feels the most compassion for? Kamadeva, of course.

Bodhi's presence is enough to calm. His smile drops hardened criminals to their knees. If only he desired world peace he might bring it about! But no. He desires nothing. Nothing at all.

Still. Somehow. His path seems to intersect with Kamadeva's again and again...

Dashing Swordsman 2

The original Dashing Swordsman, Gibson Eroll, was a member of the Iron Eagles, alleged heroes who attempted to bring Britain and America onto the side of Nazi Germany in the late 1930s. They stayed together as a group for only a short time before the march of history and the baser instincts of some of their members brought it all crashing down. The Dashing Swordsman, who did have genuinely heroic instincts, especially loathed the Spider once he learned the truth behind that villain's activities. But before he could expose the Spider, the Spider released a file of information regarding the Dashing Swordsman's less-than-heroic private life to the British police.

The ensuing trial completely ruined Eroll's reputation, and he chose to join a "suicide mission" that struck against the Nazis deep within enemy territory. Recently declassified documents indicate he died heroically on that mission.

This inspired Gibson Eroll's grandson by blood, Fairbanks Cooney, to take up the name and updated costume of the Dashing Swordsman, to redeem the original's name. He uses a gimmicked sword and utility belt to better keep up with the modern criminal. Fairbanks is considerably better as a person than his grandfather, but shares his taste for underage women...which causes him much angst due to never following through on these impulses.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Erm...this is tacky I know, but since we need to move on...

Doll Girl is Ynez Aragones, who possesses a pouch of "magic dust". Any toy or doll that she sprinkles the dust on comes to "life" temporarily, to assist Ynez with her crimefighting. Where she got this dust from is a mystery even to her--she simply found it in her possession one morning, and though it has been stolen several times, the pouch is always back in her hand the next dawn. There's one exception to the "temporary" part of her powers--Kitty-chan of the Kill-Stompy-Samas. Not only did the doll stay alive ever since being activated, but it possesses an evil personality. As Kitty-chan's "mother", Ynez is anxious to reclaim the toy and find out what went wrong.

And now our new group, The Knights of Saint Nicholas. It's actually a secret society with roots back in the Middle Ages. Its members are sworn to protect and defend children, and punish those who harm them. It's never been a particularly large conspiracy, and has a high rate of burnout among its members due to the sheer immensity of wrong done to children in the world. The full number of members is not known, but there are four superpowered members who act as the public face of the organization. The job doesn't pay, as such, but when fulfilling a mission for the Knights, you'll have access to minimal food, shelter and transportation. Some of the members joke about "gnomes" preparing the necessary supplies.

So, four members, none of them secretly Santa Claus (who is instead their secret patron.)

He has seen a thousand dreams. Literally. He travels the dream dimension, sometimes just looking, sometimes intervening. Lately though, it has been more and more intervening, especially among the young. He tries to protect them in the dream world, but sometimes its not enough. So now he enters the waking world, to find those who make life so unbearable that it shatters young dreams. Find them and stop them.

He is the Sandman.

Myra Bishop was once a pickpocket (and a pretty good one at that). She had a rough childhood, with drunken parents and fell through the cracks of the foster homes. Needless to say, she took to the streets and fell in with a gang of thieves. With her unassuming demeanor and near-silent approach, she could slip and out of situations and leave the marks high and dry.

Until she picked the wrong pocket. Taken under the wing of the Knights, she slowly opened up out of her tough-girl shell, revealing the scared child she still was underneath. Trained in Escrima and calling herself Kid Whisper, Myra utilizes herself as a scout and infiltrator as needed for the Knights. No more children are getting lost in the cracks if she can help it!

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

A mysterious immortal with an enchanted flute. You probably heard of him in the children's myth about how he "stole" the children from a village a long time ago. Yeah, that is what they want you to think. The truth to the story was that the children of that village were being abused and mistreated by a malevolent force that had permeated there and fed on the misery of the young and innocent. He sent the rats in knowing he would be called to help. Which gave him ample time to save the children. When they had travelled far from the village, he found families willing to adopt. But, no one seems to be told that part of the taleThe Piper do they? And to make matters worse, that malevolent entity is still out there in the world hungering for vengeance. Oh well, he still is gonna save all the children he can.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

I am Sir Dumachus of Bari, a Knight of Saint Nicholas. For Nicholas is the patron of merchants, archers, sailors, and thieves - and I have been all of those things at one time, for I was a pirate a long time ago. A very long time ago.

My purse is empty, but it will fill with gold only for a chld's need - to redeem a child from slavery or to purchase bread for one who starves.

My quiver is empty, but I will draw and nock an arrow only for a child's need - to strike down whatever threatens, whether mortal, beast, or devil.

My compass is broken and worthless, but will work only to serve a child's need - pointing the way to home or parents.

My key is rusted and bent, but it will open a lock only to serve a child's need - no door will bar the way, where a child leads me.

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary suggests that Dumachus probably has all kinds of interesting skills and knowledges on top of the mystical toys....

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Does that mean I pick the next theme?

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary wants to pick a theme but I'm not sure that's a good idea...

edit: Okay, I overruled the palindromedary.

Team name: The Zodiac

Number: 12

Theme: each team member represents a sign of the zodiac. They don't have to look like the way the signs are popularly or traditionally represented, but there should be some kind of connection between powers and some aspect or trait of that sign in Western Astrology.

Lucius Alexander

Be glad I overruled the palindromedary this time

I'll start.

Archer represents Sagittarius. He uses a modern high tech compound bow and his trick arrows have various gadgets, but his costume is enchanted to act as armor.

He is both skilled and lucky, but sometimes pushes his luck too far.

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary snorts that I picked an easy one

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Moonchild Gold represents Cancer, the crab. That's her real name, by the way, her parents were hippies. Moonchild's powers may or may not have come from her parents' habit of consuming recreational drugs. Moonchild has the ability to create powerful force fields, both around herself and others--she can choose what gets through and what doesn't at will--one of her sneakier tricks is creating a field that only stops mental powers. As a secondary effect, all of her fields affect other beings as though they were blessed silver, something that does not make her popular with evil supernaturals.

As you might expect, Moonchild is a firm believer in peaceful resolutions and attempting to find win-win solutions to problems. Sadly, she lives in a world where violence is often the only viable option.

Kolben Wildmane is not of this world. Where he came from, he was a powerful druid, blessed by the powers of nature. He could heal others, call upon the winds, trees and insects to hinder opponents, blast his enemies with fire from the stars, even take the form of a powerful beast (usually a bear or a wildcat) to engage in melee combat if needed. During a battle with xenophobic humans over an abandoned temple in the Outland, the fel energies of that place coupled with the sheer amounts of magic being used tore a dimensional hole and Kolben found himself swept away here on Earth. He fell in with the Zodiac and is their representative for Taurus the Bull, no doubt, because he's actually one of these.

Bob Boyle moved to the desert to continue his research on an universal antivenom. A chance encounter forced him to use it on himself. His skin formed platelets for protection, his hands can pinch material in half, climbing and jumping are ridiculously easy, and he grew a tail with a stinger. He is looking for a cure, but until he has one, he protects his area as Scorpion.

Lola Bridget was already fast on land. She took to the water like a fish. She found that she could actually move like lightning in both environments. Then she found she could eat anything. She wondered if some sea god somewhere was laughing at her. She decided to be the Sea Goat and make a name for herself as a protector of the seas.

Scorpion and Capricorn of course.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

I've got two:

Libra was once a very successful defense attorney who honestly believed his clients were innocent of the crimes they were accused of. While defending a certain celebrity client, he crossed a moral line when he deliberately had a witness lie on the stand to win a case. Naturally he got his client released, but three weeks later the celebrity murdered a young intern. Racked with guilt, the lawyer discarded his previous identity and became Libra - the man who will bring balance. After brining his former client to justice he joined the Zodiac in exchange for help tracking down his previous clients to determine if he had done wrong by defending them. As far being a hero go, Libra is more likely than most to be willing to cross the line and kill.

Ophiuchus is the secret backer of The Zodiac who funds the team for unknown reasons. When he interacts with the team he dresses in a black business suit and wears a green hood with a question mark on his face. He can telepathically control snakes and will use them to gather intelligence.

Sarah and Sally conners may be twins, but they definitely have different ways of expressing themselves. Sarah is aggressive, type A, with a mean streak, and is a social worker. Sally is more congenial, type b, and tries to forgive, and is a lawyer.

One thing they have in common is Martial Arts and here they differ as well. Sarah practices Aikido, Sally practices Karate-do. Despite the differences in styles they have learned to work together with frightening efficiency.

They use their contacts and knowledge in civilian life to aid those who need help beyond normal channels.

As Yin and Yang They intervene when they have to go beyond the beyond of normal channels.

(They represent Gemini)

XK-7 is perhaps an odd choice to represent Virgo. Or perhaps not, as an experimental "killbot" that has gained sentience, XK-7 is newly innocent and is questioning what right it has to take anyone's life. It is trying to modify its more deadlier arsenal to subdue and restrain as opposed to killing. Not all of its weaponry has been changed over yet. Likewise, whoever or whatever created XK-7 is still trying to find it -- and will NOT be happy with a pacifist robot.

Ganymede appears to be a youthful man of tremendous beauty. And he always will. Ganymede is both immortal and able to regenerate. Any injury that might mar Ganymede's beauty is swiftly erased. Because of his looks, most people pay attention to Ganymede and listen to what he has to say. He is often able to diffuse tense situations simply by walking in and offering a warm, understanding smile.

When talking proves impossible, Ganymede makes his attacks by way of cup. His magical cup of the gods is filled with whatever he might like it to be filled with at that moment. In the past it has been filled with water, oil, wine, blood, acid, gunpowder, diamonds, the needed hotel room card, and many other items of interest.

Ganymede represents Aquarius.
