Phuilo Mist is an Englishman of considerable wealth whose passion is travelling the globe. He personally is brave, resourceful, and an excellent shot, but has no special abilities...beyond, as said, his considerable wealth, and an uncanny capacity to find even rare items quickly and without fuss. He also has an uncompromising sentiment for justice (if a somewhat English - and patriarchal -  approach to it), and is often willing to aid others in correcting anything he sees as an injustice or crime.

This is a direct lift of a GURPs superhero character. It is in the for hire supplement.

Astronaut

Wendy Hythe was always accused of having her head in the clouds and had a fascination with flight and then the space programs of all the nations trying to put things into space. Then came the day when one of the rockets taking astronauts to the International Space Station developed a fault and was in danger of being stranded as it could not dock with the station or return to earth. Wendy dreamed that night an incredible dream. That she had ascended through the heavens, and got the capsule back to earth. She did but it had taken several days to do and to get the astronauts back. Somehow she had extended a life preserving field around the capsule as well as herself and thus they had all returned safely. The Department of Defence, NASA and others managed to keep the entire thing secret with a miraculous rescue by an unknown hero being the official explanation. Now Wendy works for NASA in the main getting objects up into orbit and also clearing out junk. She does not like the idea of fighting aliens as it means killing but having seen things like Alien, Predator and The Thing she knows that some alien life was be stopped and thwarted. She wears a simple black unitard costume with goggles to block glare.

Ace of Space

Sean "Ace" O'Sullivan was a barnstormer and stunt flyer who became a superhero of the skies in the late 1920s. He flew a modified biplane called the Blazin' Banshee and battled aeronautic themed villains like the Black Baron and Lord Von Zeppelin. In 1938 he and fellow heroes Iron Horse, Madame Mystery, Professor Harrison Hightower and his massive robot Hercutron battled an alien invasion in Grover's Mill New Jersey. During the fight O'Sullivan was engaged in a dogfight with an alien craft when the ship attempted to warp away and escape. O'Sullivan flew after it and ended up traveling to the aliens home world. He had many adventures on planet Orr before finally warping back to Earth. However the warp affected time as well as space and he returned to modern earth. He has had to make a huge adjustment from the culture shock, but his heroism is as strong as ever. He now flys the Blazin' Banshee II, an Orrian shift ship that allows him to fly into space and has an array of devastating weapons. His experiences on Orr have also given him some diplomatic skills in dealing with other lifeforms and being able to adapt to their customs.

Space COP (Cyborg Over-Person)

People say "Mad Scientist," like it's a standard thing, but some are crazier than others.

The lunatic who transformed down-to-earth rocket scientist Yu Tu into a "Bionic Superman" must have been about the craziest.

When he transforms his super-powered alter-ego looks comically like he's just wearing a silver & red rubber suit with a zipper down the back and a helmet with oversize glowing lenses that should be impossible to see through for eyes.  His size also changes to match the threat du jour,  whether that's central-casting humanoid aliens or kilometer-tall kaiju. His protective energy field looks suspiciously like a matte line.  In addition to superstrength, flying into space, and projecting ravenning beams of energy that only ever seem to blow up scenery near the target, his helmet has a universal psychic translator that causes anyone he speaks to to understand him - but as if he were speaking in a bombastic old-timey version of their native language (he hears translated replies as if sung in traditional Chinese opera).

Ironically, some alien races seem to respect that mode of communications.

Yu Tu carefully maintains his secret identity - not out of fear for his loved ones (he has no family and is asexual & aromantic), but simply because the whole thing is just too humiliating.

No-one is now alive who knows precisely how Scott Howard received superpowers. There are no papers but there are plenty of theories on the internet and in government files across the globe. Put him in one of those containers you get on ships and it becomes akin to a battlesuit. He can't operate on the ground only airborne and especially in orbit. This has been a boon to NASA in working to fix orbiting facilities of various sizes. He can also take what is a frightening amount of punishment. There have been attempts to try to get Scott to use his powers remotely to no avail. If one of the others can get him into a container and get him there he can do a lot of grunt work. NASA reform to him as Modular

New Team: All Africa Force

This group contains members from all over the continent from the Arab North to South Africa, this is a vast continent and has given rise to a team that protects it from outsiders and from itself.

Minimum 5.

Can reference any part of the continent's history so French Foreign Legion and British troop archetypes are permissable.

The Proud Man

How old is the Proud Man? Even he isn't sure. The human brain isn't designed to keep memories that long. But he knows he has studied at the Sankore University and Mosque before the colonial era, and he remembers things sometimes...things like seeing the Pyramid complex at Giza, under construction near the glory of the Sphinx.

Appearance wise, he has the mien of an African plains warrior, over six feet in height, with a muscle definition that would make most bodybuilders envious. His eyes are a deep brown color, and while he largely used to shave his head, these days he has long flowing dreadlocks.

His current position as a hero is rather new, as well. The Proud Man still has arrest warrants out for him in both France and Britain, because the one thing he has never tolerated has been the European colony system. Any time Africans fought for independence, the Proud Man could be counted on to make an appearance. In the days of flintlocks and swords, his presence could change the course of a battle - but he was only one man. When Maxim Guns and repeaters began rule the battlefield, he learned the skills of the guerrilla, and eventually traded his long spear for an AK47.

But today, he has largely renounced political causes, seeking instead to protect the people where he can and serve as a symbol of emerging Africa. He's a lot happier these days too.

The Proud Man is a combination brick and martial artist. His skin and bones are steel-hard, and he'll basically ignore anything less than a 20mm shell, while he can easily lift a bus. But it's his skill that makes him deadly - literal millennia of experience have honed his skills to the point of being all but unmatched. He can handle any spear, throwing club or short blade with superhuman skill, and unlike many in this day, he has no problem using lethal force if he deems it necessary.

Berber

This man takes the name of the ethnic group that exists predominantly in North West Africa. He is not an Arab but is often confused as such. He can speak Arabic. Whether he can read it is not something that anyone has confirmed. He can speak French, Spanish and English after all that's what the invaders spoke. He can be seen riding a camel holding a rifle. As such he is easily dismissed. However the rifle has a range that is phenomenal and he is quite accurate with it. He can also locate water which is  a boon in the desert. His tracking ability is very good. He has also been known to ride a mechanical camel.

He is not fond of the jungle preferring more arid areas.

It would appear that Proud Man and the Berber do not like each other but they respect each other.

Mlinzi

Babirye Akello was "recruited" by the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda losing his mother, father and twin sister during the slaughter of his village. After two years of forced service as a soldier he was saved when Proud Man intervened during an attack. Babirye was awestruck by his savior's power and compassion as he defeated him and fellow soldiers without injuring or killing anyone. Babirye found safety in a UN refugee camp and while there discovered his interest and ability with mechanical and electronic devices. This ability further blossomed as he grew into a young man and led to him designing a suit of power armor. The suit provides protection, enhanced strength, flight and a variety of non-lethal weapons such as sonic cannons and tazer projectiles. He dubbed himself Mlinzi(Protector in Swahili) and began his life as a hero with praticular focus on helping children in danger or need. He still struggles with his feelings of loss and the guilt of his terrible actions with the LRA. He sought out his hero Proud Man and was a founding member of AAF.

The Lioness

At first feared as a villain when she began gathering together followers from different countries and of different backgrounds, including traditional enemies, this sorceress was recruited into The AAF, defusing the situations.  Her followers now work within the borders and laws off their respective nations, working to stop poachers and protect the environment.

The Lioness is so named because she would frequently assume that animal form.  Her other unique power is the ability to instantly teach anyone a mysterious common language.  Aside from that she has typical, broad but not extremely potent magical abilities.

Spoiler

The Lioness really is a lioness with the magical power to assume human form.  Her ultimate goal is to restore as much of the continent as possible to pre-colonial purity.

The Legionnaire Etrangere

This man appears as a member of the Legion from the 19th Century. He even uses a rifle from that era. There appears to be some history with The Proud Man and The Berber but it no longer colours their interactions. He understands English, French and Spanish among European languages and Berber and Arabic of the languages of the continent. It is also impossible to identify where he originated. There seems to be some sort of charm on him so that he cannot be killed permanently. If the Legion were ever to be permanently disbanded, then he could be killed. He can fight anywhere but prefers the North and the desert. He does not need to eat or sleep and can trek anywhere for hours at a time. His rifle has similar characteristics to the Berber's with the exception that it does not need to be reloaded.

New Team: The Austin Bulwark

For a time, Austin (in Texas)  had few heroes, then about a year ago, for no seeming reason, five residents scattered about the city gained superpowers that seemed innate (No Foci) and costumes that just manifested about their bodies. To this day, they don't know how it happened. Is it magical? Alien intrusion? They don't know. What they do know is they lose their powers if they go 20 miles past the Austin City Limits. They're powerful, more so than most starting superheroes, but only while they stay in Austin. By now they've met each other, formed the Bulwark, and faced supervillains of all sorts. But the mystery remains on how and why they got these powers, and why it's so tied to Austin.

Weird Beard

Artie "Aristotle" Ramsey, a self titled street philosopher and poet, was a regular fixture at Hippie Hollow Park. He was known for his habit of long bizarre rambling rants about the nature of existence as well as more mundane aspects of life. His transformation happened in the middle of one of these rants and he suddenly found himself dressed in what he called a silver space suit, complete with cape. He soon discovered he could cause his long beard and ratty dreadlocks to grow and stretch and manipulate objects and people. Naturally he freaked out a little. Over time he accepted what was happening was real and not some bad trip. He also found he had additional abilities that allowed him to distort reality in what he dubbed his weird waves. He modified his costume into a tie die pattern and continued to spread his brand of wisdom while also fighting crime and protecting the citizens of Austin.

Thrust

Mike Angelos is the one who found out that if you go 20 miles or so from the city limits the powers cease. Mike got the ability to fly real fast. and when he was chasing someone the powers cut out. Fortunately Mike has always been a bit lucky so his crash landing was not as bad as it could have been. He tested the limit of his powers and then began marking places around the city and its environs where his powers then quit. He then made the police aware that he was affected in this way in order to co-ordinate high speed pursuits and that he was not invincible and invulnerable. He has established a working relationship with the local police taking over from the local helicopter. He has also looked into establishing 'crash' zones where people dropping from a height can be directed so that they don't die. His work on this with the fire and hospital services is ongoing.

Austin has always been famous for its musical conventions and shows. It was no surprise when the hero known as Musico appeared on the scene to help out with his sonic powers. One day he hopes to hit the big time as Waylon Willis, mild mannered country singer, but for now he teaches guitar picking while doing what he can for the city.

Lady Triumph seems to be one of the strongest heroes around, able to lift a sky scrapper, she doesn't tire, and she's pretty much invulnerable, in short she's a top tier brick! This Amazon of a heroine is loved and adored.

She's also suffering from severe guilt. She had left the city briefly to go on a road trip with her mother. There was a car wreck due to a mix of bad weather and a clumsy other driver.... Jennier (Lady Triumph) found herself helpless to free her mom in time as the car went down into the muck where her mother drowned because she was too weak to help. Now she's back in Austin, and is on super duty all the time. No one will die while she's got the power. She's going to keep everyone in Austin safe. Even if it means she doesn't have a real life anymore.

Apparently Austin is known for weirdness so I present......

Bizarre Bazaar

This is a hippy who will welcome you to his little store that will help you with your life. He'll talk to you and ask what he can get you from his inventory. He has long hair, big shades and dresses like a stereotype hippy. He appears to be able to entrance people and talk them out of doing something violent or against their better nature. He smokes what appears to be grass but it has unusual effects like creating fog or darkness clouds. Sharing a joint with him can calm people down and also lessen mind control or mental illusions but he does not do this all the time as it annoys the law. Several times he has been searched and he has no drug paraphernalia on him only to produce it if it is needed. As he has helped talk people out of committing suicide and helped keep accident victims alive long enough for paramedics time to turn up, the police give him a lot of leeway. He only tends to appear when needed as no records of his existence have been found anywhere. This includes a licence to sell from his cart. He does not seem to be affected by mental powers in the least. He may restrain someone but he does not go in for hitting people. 'Not Cool, man'.

Mechanon had a run in with the team and now avoids the place as the hippy somehow confused his sensory input to such an extent that whatever happened there cannot have happened as it is not logical.

New Team:

This team is made up of people who either had to retire from their former jobs like police officers or soldiers, burned out, were burned (spies and others who were blamed for something that went wrong) or simply had to give up a profession (to have and raise kids for example). Their background should be listed so that their prior experience may come into play. It is very possible that they got superpowers late in life or career.

Some may therefore be in their 40s or later.

Minimum 5, maximum 8

I cannot think of a team name that means anything so I am open to suggestions.

I like "Second Start"

So, for a first member:

Olympian

Colin Ianopoulis was quite the athlete in his youth. He worked hard, sought to be the best at his chosen area of Track and Field events, and he made it to the Olympic games at 22. He competed in Javelin, Discus, Long-Jump, High Jump, Vault...and he placed a very respectable 4th or 5th in each field. It was the greatest moment of his life.

But Colin had commitments. He had a wife, a child on the way, so he put aside his sporting life and went into law enforcement. He did well, being fit and strong, but also intelligent and discerning. Over the years, he gained the respect and trust of his fellows, and retired at 65 as a sergeant.

Now, Colin was at a loss. He was still fit and powerful, but his wife had died, and his kids had their own lives. He decided to travel to Greece, to see his ancestral homeland.

Colin visited the site of the ancient Olympics. Where he had a heart attack and died.

As he lay on the ground, a voice came to him. It called itself the spirit of the Olympics, and said he had embodied that spirit all his life. If he was willing, the spirit would give him strength and power. to embody the spirit of competition and honourable sport. He said, will I also be able to protect the innocent and oppose the evil? The spirit said yes.

So Colin embarked on his next career. He uses Javelins and Discus as throwing weapons, leaps tall structures or across long gaps, wrestles opponents and pins them for the police. He also promotes sports and fitness. The spirit is happy, though it doesn't understand why all these athletes war so much clothing in a competition. Colin is also happy, but he still has the body of a 67 year old man, and even with enhancements his health is slowly degrading. He intends to make the best of what time he has left.

Thank you to Quackhell and Sundog

The Spy

The security expert of the team, The Spy, worked for one of the world's intelligence agencies until something went wrong and he was 'burned' which means his agency disowned him as he was publicly outed. The Spy can appear as a man of any race on the planet and can even change his fingerprints and retinal patterns. How this came about is unknown and he does not talk about it. He is a whizz with languages but also has a poker face so that if someone tries to catch him out they have to be either very lucky and incredibly observant. Using the name David Jones in his downtime, The Spy has a whole list of fake identities and knowledge of various cities and agencies across the world. He can kill but defers to the wishes of the others to spare life whenever possible. No-one knows who he really is or was and he may not know himself. He knows martial arts but could not really go toe to toe with the best practitioners in the world.

Reporter Salvatore Crespi has reported the truth his whole life. He has dug into things that he shouldn't have and caused some damage to the hierarchy in his city. Wounded at dinner, Crespi spent his time recovering. He discovered that his near death had awakened an ability to events as if he was actually there. That allowed him to go back to the paper and report on things which caused even more problems. But he had also created the masked identity of the Historian to act against those who wanted to stop him from letting the truth be free.
