We have covered tons of different groups in this thread and the villain thread. let's go back to the basics.

An obscure group during World War 2 was the Haneyville Hard Hitters. This group of heroes protected the homefront from spies and criminals taking advantage of law enforcement being forced to look the other way. Who were these five expies of the Champions?

Blasto the Magician was really mild-mannered accountant Percival Portnoy Pinkriver--an amulet allowed him to turn into a powerful mage, but he never accessed any spells that weren't destructive in nature.  Only his reluctance to hurt people kept Blasto from becoming a villain.

Ragtime Gal was Betty Lodge, a USO volunteer who used red, white and blue gems that shot various types of energy to deal withblack marketeers and Third Column spies.  She wore a gaudy costume not so much to disguise herself but to draw attention away from her mixed-race heritage (many would have considered her a light-skinned black woman who was trying to "pass.")  After she retired from heroics, a series of thefts and other circumstances has prevented anyone from gathering all three of her gems in one place.

Petunia Paterson was Victory Garden. When combined with her secret quick grow formula her atomic seeds could produce tangler vines, flowers that could move her up or forward, and vicious venus flytraps.

Which sticks m with having to think of the next group. O.k. lets go even further back. The 1930'2 cults were all the rage and five friends decided to form one. They decided to base the mystic philosophy on Zen principles. And they found something interesting. As they practiced they found they had gained special abilities.  They decided to use these abilities to help others, but humbly and quietly. As a result they gave their group no name. After all we know who we are.

No One is  Garret Greer. And he has a strange knack for not being noticed He can stand in front of a crowd of people and disarm a bomb. Afterwards they can remember someone disarming it, but not really remember who.

Magga has the power to come and go mysteriously, but her most valuable ability is a penetrating insight and the ability to give advice in such a way that it is heard and heeded - even if it's not understood at first. Many a masked "mystery man" is concerned that she has dropped hints of knowing their secret identity, but is grateful for her suggestions for foiling the plots of evil doers.

Paul Harris was the one among the group who saw the potential for gain using the cult to make money and acquaintances who would benefit him particularly. All this changed as he studied Zen principles. Paul had wanted to get his hands on 'something authentic' to wow the sceptics and bamboozle the easily deluded. So the book he got was older and supposedly had deeper insight than other books. Now Paul needed to study it first so that he could talk like a professional and fast talk people. Instead it was as if some guiding spirit took him through the principles and made him aware of his own deficiencies. They all suddenly made sense and the fact that he had been wasting his life on trivia and money brought about an awakening in him. He learned the true meaning of Awareness, Present Moment Focus, Nonjudgment, Acceptance, Validation, Tolerance, Compassion, Invitation, Patience and Practice. Because of his earlier misspent life he is the one who knows a number of people on the shady side of life and uses the non-judgement, tolerance, compassion and acceptance to overcome the more violent emotions and treat people with equanimity than others might. He is now able to calm people with his voice and reasoned arguments. He is known as Zen to those who would call him anything but Paul. But he was emphatic about not being Zen Master as he feels he still has much to learn.

That's five. So New Team: The LA Rangers. Los Angeles has had gang problems for years and the LA Rangers are a loosely affiliated group who are trying to tackle the gangs and reduce the influence that the gangs have. This is more of a street level group so martial artists and law enforcement agents are good selections. Your idea of Superman is not. As the group is loose they tend to tackle either particular gangs or people and seldom work together. There is scope for including someone who is maybe not involved in the day to day fighting but is gathering information. Doctors, nurses, ex-military are others that might be a good fit.

They may also be aware of Infernal Affairs who are based in Chicago the diabolic influence policemen in some fashion.

Minimum 5 members.

It's time for The Hand of Justice and her teddy bear to make a reappearance.

Breaker was born Dushane Shlaes and was known as "Ball Breaker" when he ran with the gangs in his home of East LA.  He found Allah in prison, and for the first time really studied Malcolm X's philosophy (as opposed to using sound bites to justify petty crime.)  Breaker does community outreach to help street kids learn about their cultural heritage and the righteous path.  He's a reasonably devout Muslim who believes righteous deeds are more pleasing to Allah than a rigid conformation to petty rules:  he sticks with them himself unless a life needs to be saved, but won't hassle others.

Breaker's name comes from his ability to shatter rigid objects.  He's also a very fit street fighter; he no longer fights for pride or wrath, but for compassion.

Remember Susan Naylor ? Of course you do ! She was (and still is) a martial artist of some skill who due to a battle with the evil Dr Nymax ! acquired enhanced strength, agility and endurance. She was a member of Team Justice going by the name of the Hand of Justice. She was forced out of the team after beating up David Glazebrook, freelance 'journalist' and full time sleaze bag at a Team Justice press conference. It was a humiliation for her but no-one touches Teddy. After all a girl's Teddy Bear is worth killing for.

Susan moved to Los Angeles and has gone after the gangs trying to stop the killings more than anything else. Most of them refer to her as The Hand when they are not insulting her.  She has a better rep with the Latino gangs rather than the Crips and The Blood. However when someone was stupid enough to put a bounty on her head specifying that she be molested and then killed, Operation Beatdown was launched by vigilantes and then taken up the police. The Crips and Blood had the bounty publicly withdrawn and everyone else then fell in line. After which Operation Beatdown subsided.
Susan's main problem is that guys do not like being beaten up by a woman. But the Latinos found out that surrender worked better for them. Lower fines and reduced sentences depending on the crime(s) committed. As a result she also has connections with community leaders and this can help calm things down. While this does not work so well in the African-American communities the leaders there have warmed to her as time has gone on.

She maintains street level contact with the LAPD and officers on the beat. She has had back up from other vigilantes and backed them up provided they are not of Marvel's the Punisher ilk.

And yes Teddy is still with her. Woe betide he who mocks the Teddy Bear.

An ancillary member of the LA Rangers is The Medic.

He is a member of the US Airforce who accidently got hit with supersoldier serum. And it worked on him. He's slightly stronger than a normal man, has more endurance and is far more agile. What really gets on the nerves of the military is why did it have to be a man whose goal in life is the preservation of life that survived the serum and demonstrated its effectiveness rather than a proper tried and true patriotic infantryman ?

Worse the results of the serum and DNA tests have not proved to be transposable to others. His identity has been secret and what the outside world believes is that he is a mutant.

However in his flight outfit with helmet The Medic saw action in Los Angeles. One of the gangs opened fire on a rival at a basketball game taking down quite a few people. The Medic leapt into action getting among the wounded to start treating them. The gang was not finished and decided to off the meddler and the wounded. They were taken apart and taken down. The Medic left them disabled and unconscious for the law (it is amazing how effective a headbutt in a helmet can be) before taking the wounded on to hospital. His superiors were furious but the public lapped it up. Since his first incursion the Medic has returned to the LA killing grounds providing much needed first aid to those in need and stopping others from capitalising on it. Colleagues have adapted his helmet so that his actions can be monitored and his actions co-ordinated. While it does not help with the serum it does provide usuable data on how effective someone can be with a computer back up even if they ignore it every now and again.

The gangs have a good relationship with The Medic despite the fact that he is obviously Caucasian because if he has not saved one of them he has saved someone they know.

The Medic has served as back up for members of the LA Rangers who are not obviously homicidal. The Pentagon is aware of what the Medic is doing but is content to let him continue as they can monitor him and see how long the serum lasts and what other side effects it may have. The fact that LA can be considered hostile territory makes the data all the more valuable. And is good PR for The Whitehouse when it needs it.

I have had the idea for a long time and now have had the opportunity to post it. Yippee !

Officially this counts as half a choice.

There is a man who wanders the LA underground who is known as Sikes. A fixture in the homeless community, he tends to know everything about everyone. He uses this information to keep the villains around him moving through his territory. Since his tips have proven to be effective, the police have grown to trust his information enough to mount raids on suspicious locales.

There is another ancillary member of the LA Rangers and he is a villain but he does not look like one or act like one for the most part. And this is the Urban Spaceman who we have met before in the villain team thread.

When the LA Rangers started to have an impact they became aware of him. They think for the most part that he is either a disqualified physician or a skilled mutant. They don't know the truth and he works hard to make sure they don't.
As stated before he resides in Los Angeles where he is taking an interest in the gang violence and trying to quell it. In some cases that means killing the people behind it usually via a sudden medical condition like a heart attack but he has used others to prevent the authorities getting too suspicious.
'He can sense people around him and knows on a cellular level what is wrong with someone. He can cause blindess, deafness or extreme haemophilia if attacked by a group. Or he can just cause fatigue leading to sleep or nausea.
He's not interested in plaudits, recognition, inspiring others or vast wealth. Just life as it happens where he is.
He usually has a vast number of quarters so he can use pay phones. When you can change your fingerprints this means no-one ever puts you at different locations, and it makes you harder to track. He is dressed in normal clothes usually leather jacket, shirt or T Shirt, jeans and sneakers.'

His appearance and lack of money is what makes the others believe he is not a villain. That and the fact that he has saved the lives of others affected by gang violence. He gets on well with the Medic because he understands the Hippocratic Oath that the former operates under.

As I did specify that gang violence is LA is what the Urban Spaceman was trying to counter, it is only right to include him here. He counts as a half because he is usually only with the LA Rangers to provide first aid.

I took the last hero required for the minimum for the Rangers. So....

New Team: Reversibles This is a team of at least 5 villains. However they are also heroes (and as such will appear in the Heroes thread). Some incident turned the villains into heroes or was it the other way around ? Both exist but all are one thing (i.e. villains) at the same time. They are never partly heroes or partly villains. Both sets are increasingly concerned at their sudden disappearance and then reappearance without knowledge of what has happened in between time. To make matters more complicated the heroes powers and abilities may not match the villains powers and abilities. They may also be a different sex. Depending on the writer there may be one who is a mirror image on the teams.

Any powers and abilities are possible but you have to state who the opposite is and when the team appears in the Hero thread post the opposite there as well.

Robot maker from the future Doctor Robert Dunstan is extremely obsessived with which is stronger, good or evil. So he created a special 'mechanical boy' who has two personalitys, one good and the other evil. His good side is called Judge and embodies order. He has shape changing 'Noh' powers, and changes shape into order associated items and powers. When Dr. Dunstan wants to study evil, he actvates the second personality, called Savage.

Doctor Dunstan is from the manga Ultimo. He is also a likeness of comic book icon Stan Lee.
