TROI: I just find it interesting. Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the man who couldn't be pried out of his seat for a vacation for three years
PICARD: It's Earth. It's home. Do I need another reason?
TROI: I don't know. What do you think?
PICARD: Your help has been invaluable during my recovery, but, look, I'm better. The injuries are healing.
TROI: Those you can see in the mirror.

Sorry for the delay, last week saw an impromptu trip and so our regular update was delayed.

Metahuman News
Last week we completed the second play test of World Builders 1. In this post test we focused on Neighborhood Watch. The heroes included Otis, a high powered time manipulator and crack pilot, Strife, a classic power martial artist, and Heliquin, who you may recognize from the Hall of Legends. With each character coming from different power levels this allowed us to play with the Bonus Willpower mechanics as well, pushing our clown princess to a whopping 14 Willpower for the scenario.

Running with the premise that the heroes were traveling through space, we had them landing at a space port for repairs. This is where Neighborhood Watch kicks in! The players select the following Talents to define the spaceport.

Heliquin, Acrobatics, to explore the stations gravity.
Otis, Street Smarts, looking to find out about the local underworld.
Strife, Fitness, as she is the girl who swole.

After three rolls and related questions had the following:

Hive Space Port
Spaceport has faulty gravity generators
Space port is home to a race of alien warriors - they are the dominate culture in the port and make up a large portion of the security detail.
Zero-G Dancers/Theater
Trade is primarily handled through barter
Squatter communities have cropped up in areas normally not accessible due to the gravity issues.
Muscle head culture is prevalent
Gang of dirty merchants run an illegal protection racket in the main bazaar.

Otis, also sets up our conflict, based on his roll, as the merchant gangs.

Taking a short break, we whipped up some alien gangsters and went to town in a classic bar room battle royal complete with tentacles and blasters.

Overall, the session ran about 3 hours and everyone seemed to enjoy the mechanics of neighborhood creation. To touch on the bonus Willpower before we go, this allowed Heliquin, a low powered street vigilante to hang tough, acting as the team's face despite her frightening nature, and when the shooting started.

Our dive into the new factions for World Builders 1 takes us back to the Deadheads (https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FMetahumansRising%2Fposts%2F974825189550459), it's time to start looking at some of the members of the gang.

Deadheads, Fresh Meat (Exceptional Thugs + 2 Templates)
These are the foot soldiers, naive and ready to show off the tricks they’ve picked up. The Sickness Syringe is a vile concoction of narcotics and chemical residues from the Deadhead drug labs.

Deadhead, Bloodletters (Low Powered Thugs + 2 Templates)
In for a penny, in for the dreadful. Bloodletters have earned their scars. While they have not been fully initiated into the Deadheads, they have learned to maim, even kill without remorse. Bloodletters often craft a glove with multiple syringes and razorblades as both a tool for enforcement and a status symbol before they earn their first mask.

Deadhead, Initiate (Low Powered Enforcers + 4 Templates)
Those who show enough devotion, and follow the rites of the Deadheads are eventually shown rituals that grant a death like state purging them of fear, and pain. Imbibing a liquid they refer to as icor, a twisted concoction of chemicals and arcane reagents, the Deadhead opens themself up to powerful necrotic magic. Initiates possess an eerie presence, with pail withered skin. Once initiated the Deadhead almost always wears a surgical mask to hide their mouths, and their supernaturally sharp teeth. When things are serious initiates are almost present to lead the Meat and Blood.

This week we are closing out our Deadhead preview with the Mystic and Husk, and then taking a deep dive into the Serendipity Talent. The Mystic marks a major turning points for the Deadheads. These are not wannabe goth kids playing pretend, but blood mages, far removed from the streets they once called home. Husks on the other hand, represent all those who tried and failed, paying the ultimate price, their soul.

Deadhead, Mystic (Low Powered Enforcers + 5 Templates)
Those initiates that show an aptitude for ritual are given rites that allow them to transfer the pain they’ve felt in life to others. While Mystics still wear the traditional scrub and bone garb of the rank and file, they often adorn themselves with cloaks or trenchcoats as a display of power. The true tell of a Mystic is not the jacket, but the ritual scarification they undergo to infuse their bodies with curses they can summon at a moment’s notice. Like other Initiates, Mystics don’t run the street like Meat and Blood, but rather always seem to appear when called on.
Note: Mystics may also have the Striker Template, but often forgo the Sickness in favor of their more potent arcane abilities.

Deadhead, Husk (Classic Mindless Undead + 4 Templates)
Not all Deadheads survive the second initiation. Their souls stripped from their bodies, they are transformed into mindless embodyments of hunger. Husks can be commanded by anyone who has consumed the icor and survived. Rumors persist of small gangs being wiped out by a single mystic leading a pack of Husks. While Initiates and Mystics may speak about Husks openly, they are never revealed to Meat or Blood, as their possible fate may turn them from the path of the Deadhead.

Serendipity Spotlight
From the core book:

Serendipity (Fortune)
The character has better fortune than most when it comes to random chance. The character may use their Serendipity on any Cinematic Addition roll.

What does this mean? Typically, GM's will set the stage by describing places or locations. However, it's virtually impossible to describe everything that might be in a given scene. Players often ask if something is present, and a roll is often not required, it either fits, or it doesn't fit into the scene. Cinematic Additions are there for those times when everyone goes, well, yeah that could be there. In these situations, the GM will a Target, often between 10 and 25. The player then makes a Fortune + Serendipity roll. How do we interpret this?

Good Serendipity means finding five bucks on the ground while you're on your way to lunch, an industrial trash bin, filled with soft things when jumping off a building, or perhaps the most famous example, a firehouse at the top of Nakatomi plaza, but before the roof blows up.

Used judiciously, Serendipity and Cinematic Additions are a great tool forgiven players additional agency, in a way that feels fitting for the character.

Thanksgiving may be over, but that doesn't mean we have to stop having fun with the holiday. It's time to revisit an old friend, Gobbler! Genetically engineered to be the prefect turkey, this giant bird triggered a rampage years ago. This year, having healed it's wounds, Gobbler falls on the city with an army of giant wild turkeys!

The article includes a short set up, Gobbler's army, and a stat block for the burning butter breathing turkey or terror themselves. Enjoy! http://housedok.com/gobbler-ii-the-tide-of-turkey/

ESPN’s broadcasts are borderline unlistenable. Monday Night Football used to be a staple of NFL culture. Instead it’s just Booger McFarland washing away good points and in-game analysis with narrative-driven talking points and claiming the Minneapolis Miracle went against the Vikings (!!!). Joe Tessitore also talks about momentum a lot.
