Each _twang_ meant death for another would-be conqueror: an arrow through the neck, an arrow through an eye or an arrow through a lower organ that _might_ have been healed by a priest...were any around. Some of the more vigilant members sprinted towards the elf, grasping their knives and swords, a naked desire for vengeance displayed on each and every face. Clonus Posted August 22, 2020 Report Share Posted August 22, 2020 In the Enterprise episode "Dear Doctor," why do people say Archer and Phlox committed genocide, when only 1 out of 3 of the Valakians had the disease according to the script? PHLOX: This epidemic isn't being caused by a virus or bacteria. The proteins that bind to their chromosomes are deteriorating. Their illness is genetic. It's been going on for thousands of years, but the rate of mutation has accelerated over the last few generations. Based on my projections, the Valakians will be extinct in less than two centuries. I wish I had better news. More and more of them were going to get it earlier and earlier in life until they were all extinct as their punishment for failing to commit genocide when they had the chance. By the time of TNG they were all dead and the Menk had taken over their vacated cities and technology. One thing to understand about Dear Doctor is that it is based on a basic lack of understanding of real biology. In reality there’s no reason why an entire species would genetically self-destruct. The reason why they’re dying isn’t anything realistic but rather because evolution is being treated as a supernatural force that decided the Menk were worthy and the Valakians were standing in their way.
