Cruchoke (CREW-choke...a portmanteau of "cruel" and choke") is an unseelie faerie sprite. He considers himself an autocrat of asphyxiation. Indeed, in addition to the ability to cast Cloudkill, he has learned how to summon a Stinking Cloud to prolong the suffering of those who violate his domain.

Years ago, Cruchoke attacked a traveling circus troupe that dared to venture into the woods in hopes of securing a shortcut. With the troupe was a great cat (I am still deciding on the species, but it will likely be a Tiger). During the struggle, he freed the cat while invisible in order to foment chaos. Unbeknownst to him, the beast had been mistreated by its owners; it wasted no time attacking the abusers. Before all of the members were slain, one wicked blow was landed on the cat's face by the troupe's leader, inflicting a permanent scar. Having decided he enjoyed the savage prowess of this feline being turned on its master, Cruchoke intervened and killed the man before the human could do more harm.

Having sensed the scent of its liberator, the animal looked around randomly for the invisible sprite. Finally coming to the conclusion that he had found a new powerful ally, Cruchoke revealed himself (well out of range of the cat's paws and up in a tree where a leap would be halted by intervening branches). Seeing that it responded positively to his presence with a subdued growl as it calmly sat down, he loosed a raspy laugh and said "Very good, my striped friend. Forget your old life and your old name. You will have a chance to be free among the trees, to soak your tongue in much blood. Your new name is...Pawply."

(Paw-PLEA).

From that day forward, Cruchoke has tended to Pawply - treating him far better than even his unseelie brethren - and taken him on many hunts where the sprite sets up ambushes in concert with the tiger. Whenever Pawply is injured, Cruchoke is careful to treat the wounds with healing supplies he's gathered from numerous adventurers. Though he has worked to cultivate a trusted bodyguard, a deep and curiously untainted part of him genuinely cares for the creature.

Other Manifestations

lyachtu Xvim usually manifests as a heavy, greasy black cloud lit by two green, glowing eyes as large as a man's head. The cloud can speak, cast spells, or hurl black bolts of lightning that burn rather than discharging electricity and deal 5d6 points of damage per strike (save for half damage). Alternately, Xvim occasionally manifests as a black snake roughly 70 feet long, with a diameter the size of a large wagon, a flat adderlike head, and blazing green eyes. In this form Xvim has MV of 9, a THAC0 of 5, 72 hit points (effectively 16 HD), and bites once per round for 5d6 points of damage. He has no venom, but possesses a bone tail spike that can stab for 8d4 points of piercing damage; however, it strikes at a -2 attack penalty since Xvim is not yet used to this form.

What do you think, tkdguy? It seems that "blonde female elf wearing green" became - strangely enough - almost iconic.

Correction: there is no cost-effective and convenient substitute for heal :P. It's telling that magic at the highest echelons of wizardly power (which require the caster to shorten their lifespan), noble djinni and precious artifacts are required to duplicate a sixth-level Priest spell.

I have nothing against Deedlit, but I much prefer Galadriel and Laurana.

It could be my self-serving memory, but...it seems that most renditions make her look too human.

There is at least one Elmore exception, however ->
