Not Quite Dead Yet

Hugh Neilson

Question

OK, a very trivial point. Is there an official ruling on the limitation "Only for resurrection"? The character has either Healing or Resurrection which only brings the character back from the dead.

Let's take a fellow with 10 BOD. He's dead (-10 BOD). His teammate uses his 6d6 healing, resurrection only, and rolls enough to heal 8 BOD. Is the target now at -2 BOD (-10 + 8 = -2), or is the healing restricted to just barely bringing the deceased back to life, so he's at -9 BOD?

In respect of Regeneration, does the deceased regenerate to his full 10 BOD, or just to the point he's barely alive (-9 BOD)?

Obviously, whatever the default is, the character can always modify the power (eg. Regeneration that "only works to get the character to full BOD after death" or Regeneration that "Stops when character is just barely alive", depending on the default). But is there a default?

Also, I am assuming (when is that a good idea?) that "only to resurrect" does not reduce the cost of the Resurrection adder (since that's all the adder can do anyway). Correct?

1. Well, the Resurrection Only Limitation on 6E1 236 and 275 has a value of -½ for Healing and -2 for Regeneration, so let’s go with that as an “official ruling.” ;) In the case of Healing, that applies to the full power, including the Resurrection Adder.

2. A Healing or Regeneration power with the Resurrection Only Limitation only restores a character to 1 BODY at most (and possibly not even that much, depending on the Healing roll and how far into negative BODY the victim is). Once a character reaches 1 BODY he’s no longer dead or in any danger of dying, and therefore a Resurrection Only power can no longer apply to him.
