JmOz
What would you say the specialties on an urban commando squad would be? High Cinematic, think Mission Impossible...

Old Man
Re: Special Missions team Those movie teams always have a hacker that's capable of some really supernatural stuff. At minimum they will be capable of disabling and/or taking over any surveillance system and coming up with floor plans, sewer maps, and electrical diagrams for any building ever built. They will also be able to either hack in to a network from any PC on the premises, or else provide the main protagonist with a small device or USB thumb drive that will accomplish the same thing. Trencher
Re: Special Missions team Burglar. Hacker. Close combat specialist. Security specialist. Driver. Spotter/tactical cordinator. Maybe a sniper if its violent setting. That the roles I think of when creating roleplaying scenarios. Take it for whats its worth.
freakboy6117
Re: Special Missions team hmm most cinematic and television teams have a pretty standard set of archetypes The master mind: tactician the planner and organiser of the team the muscle the guy who beats people up intimidates people etc the technician: hacker gadget maker mechanic etc The driver/pilot: can fly or drive anything with an engine a must for getaways the sexy one: some one has to distract guards lure targets to unprotected areas or seduce some one for secrets procurer/ quarter-master: some one has to get the stuff you need to do the job the grifter: the con man trickster and deceiver might be a master of disguise. the thief:the acrobat the infiltrator the one who slides through laser grids and picks locks sometimes can be the sniper

csyphrett
Re: Special Missions team Mission: Impossible and the old GI Joe used to build teams for specific missions. If you had a overflight picture taking mission on COBRA island, all the pilots would go up and run interference for the one pilot who was taking pictures. Extraction at sea had the sailors planning a fake salvage mission, while one plane with a hook picked up the defector. Most teams did have a mix of security guys, technical specs, and at least one specific wheelman. CES

freakboy6117
Re: Special Missions team Yes lol I was going to give examples but I was being lazy but leverage is a good example but the A team mission impossible and chuck would be good tv examples and the losers are a good comic book example (the movies pretty good too) one person I did forget to mention other than demolitions is a medic to keep people functional

Toadmaster
Re: Special Missions team It's an old thread' date=' but thought it deserved looking at a little closer, with more of a vigilante slant...[/quote'] If I am reading urban vigilante team the same way as you, then usually much smaller more broad skill groups. Many of the 80s PI shows would provide some inspiration. The Equalizer, and The A-Team probably set the mold for the type. The Equalizer utilizing the expert hireling / contact to offset the small size (one man), and the A-team having very broad based specialties. Burn Notice is probably the best modern example of a show that would work for a typical PC group of 3 to 4 characters. I don't really think the archtypes change much from those listed above though, they just get combined and their skills are applied slightly differently (the security specialist has to "disarm" pitbulls instead of sneaking past lasers). shadowcat1313
Re: Special Missions team one slant on a special missions team I really like is the "Scientists with Guns" in the Sigma Force series by James Rollins, there a military special missions team, where all the members have at least one advanced science degree besides the military backround, and usually speak at least one other language. BlackEagle
Re: Special Missions team For a good urban comando unit each member of the team sould specialise in verious things. But every member of the team sould know recon tactics. Also they will most likely be working night ops as most other comando missions. A fast durable car or truck is a must in an urban setting. Think SWAT but not as obvious. They have to be able to bnlend in as well.
