The Avengers Project for Champions

A Fifth Edition Convention Game

Where I want to gather up medium power builds

of some of Marvel's Mightiest Heroes.

Some of the obvious choices are there: Iron Man, Hulk, Dr.Pym, Thor.

But some of my favorites are in the mix also: Hawkeye, Wonder Man, Mantis.

Here's the site: Avengers

The Supers are ten men and ten women. My goal is to have convention ready character sheets

for all 20, and run the first session at Marscon. And encourage female players to try Hero.

I'm hoping the recent good movies will give my plan a kickstart.

Re: The Avengers Project for Champions

I'm using some of Susano's excellent website for starters.

He and others have done excellent work already, so I am (lazy)

not going to rewrite what is well written.

I'm using the simplest convention-ready, newbie-friendly

export format I can find from hero designer for the character sheet.

Other writeups I'm getting from GNBORH, and a few other places.

Re: The Avengers Project for Champions

My goal is accessibility and familiarity. I've got scads of appropriate Heroclix,

old MSH area maps, and have DMed Hero off and on for years.

Plus who didn't watch Avengers Movie and get excited about Heroics again ?

I welcome any critiques of the sheets I post, and any ideas for the game.

Squirrel Girl is the only one posted so far. (Click on the word CONVEN) to

see the sheet layout I have in mind. If someone has a better HDE file,

please send it to me.

Re: The Avengers Project for Champions

Not sure about this one by any means but are you sure you are okay running Avengers in HERO in a public forum like that? DC has been known to be rapid about their IPs in the past and some convention organizers might therefore be gun shy about letting you run a Non-Marvel Avengers game. Might want to check with the organizers.

A) I put up my take on Moonstone AKA Meteorite.

Also I swapped in Moon Knight to reduce the number of bricks.

B) Holy cow Cassandra, if I knew you pressuring you to do characters was that

easy I'd have bugged you a long time ago. Thanks.

C)also a good Thor. I like elsewhere in thread where the hammer is built as a Vehicle!

D)

.... letting you run a Non-Marvel Avengers game. Might want to check with the organizers.

Your question (and its wording) confuses me. Besides, they run Marvel and DC heroclix in public forums.

Re: The Avengers Project for Champions

Sorry about that. It wasn't really a question, more of a suggestion. Running copywritten IP's can be troublesome in some venues. Heroclix is licensed by DC and Marvel for the characters they use. As are the DC and Marvel RPGs themselves. HERO, however, does not have any licenses for their characters. While I personally don't have a problem with it, and honestly think it is kind of stupid, I have witnessed issues in the past where gun shy Convention organizers have banned the use of unlicensed reproductions of copy written IP's due to fear of repercussions from the owning company. DC/Marvel have in the past been rather rabid in attacking anyone using their IP's without a license and I have SEEN Convention runners get scared of it. (One of the small conventions in the south where I lived even tried to ban homemade costumes referencing owned IP's one year.) Just stating that you might either want to double check with the convention organizers or bring a back up plan, just to be safe.

Here's the roster from my web page.

MAN CAVE:

- CPT.AMERICA : HDC :

- THOR - : HDC : as Mod by Hyperman ideas.

- HULK - : HDC :

- IRON MAN - : HDC :

- HAWK-EYE - : HDC :

- ANT-MAN - : HDC :

- VISION - GNB

- MOON KNIGHT - ???

- BLACK PANTHER - : HDC :

- STAR-FOX - GNB + my own campaign

LADIES ROOM:

- BLACK WIDOW - : HDC :

- SCARLET WITCH - GNB

- WASP - : HDC :

- MANTIS - ???

- MS. MARVEL- : Cassandra Dunnit

- SHE-HULK - : HDC :

- METEORITE - done

- SQUIRREL GIRL done

- MOCKING-BIRD - GNB

- {TBD, See Poll}- TBA

HDC means I have a working Hero-Designer file of said hero. from either me or Susano Surbrook

GNB means the Sysabend GNBORH site has a write-up I like.

??? means I have not found a write-up of said hero online, nor in my vast collection.

"Done" means the sheet I like is on my page (link below), but I do accept critiques.

Also I have to eventually format the sheet into a numbers-lite newbie-friendly format for the con.

And these are ~350 point 5th editions versions of the team.

so thanks for any input!

Re: The Avengers Project for Champions

Karla used it to get the Moonstone from the original owner. I thought it would be an effective tool.

Her any Instant Change lets her change between her Moonstone, Meteorite, and Ms. Marvel (Dark Reign) costumes.

15 Secret ID 5 Prof Rival 15 H: Bushman 8- 15 Honorable

5 Rep: rich (Midnight) 15 H: Drug lords 8- 10 Vengeful

History:

Marc Spector became rich through his mercenary activities; after all, he was

one of the best. While on assignment is Egypt, he was killed by his partner,

Bushman. Konshu, the Egyptian god of vengeance, and also one of three gods of

the moon, brought Spector back to life to bear the mantle of Moon Knight, his

agent on Earth. Bushman has since become president-for-eternity of a small

African country. Spector has invested his ill-gotten wealth, and donates large

sums to charities. By doing good, Spector tries to atone for his evil past.

Tactics:

Marc will never take a life himself, but may work alongside those who do, under

the right circumstances. Marc prefers to work silently. If a bunch of agents

need to be taken out, he'll sneak up to them and pick them off one by one,

using his martial arts. Against more powerful foes, he will usually punch

until they're stunned, then kick them with his levels into +d6. He will use

acrobatics to keep the enemy off guard, perhaps doing some surprise flips to

land behind them. Against _really_ powerful foes, once they're stunned, he'll

use his levels to place a kick to the head.

Personality:

Marc is an idealist. He believes that every life is important. "I died once.

You wouldn't like it." He does believe that Konshu raised him, even though

it may not be true. Sometimes he resents being yanked around by Konshu.

Marlene:

Marc's girlfriend, Marlene, knows his ID. She has been with him since he

became Moon Knight. For a while, she was trying to talk him out of playing

soldier, but now she's cooled down, and even seems to want to help him in

his crimefighting.

Midnight:

Marc's rival, Midnight (Jeff Wilde), is the son of a dead archenemy. Midnight

wants to be teamed up with Moonie, but is only 16, and knows just enough to get

himself into real trouble. He's almost a DNPC, but Jeff learned all of his

father's thievery skills, and also knows Marc's ID. To prove his talent to

Marc, he originally broke into several corporations of which Marc is a major

stockholder, and left clues to implicate Marc. So, while he's not quite in

Marc's league, he can't be totally disregarded.

Re: The Avengers Project for Champions

Also, I have posted Captain America.

Keep in mind as you critique. These are for a convention game, possibly the only session.

So not everything has to "balance" or make sense or honor every era of the comics.

The character just has to work for a while.

And thank you all, I have repped until the stick went dark.

Re: The Avengers Project for Champions

How could I forget Hercules ?

Okay: Informal Poll, on this roster, which guy would you bump in favor of Hercules ?

Remember, the Avengers are brick-heavy. I already bumped Wonder-Man for that reason.

You know. I might bump Captain America, and make him the NPC that yells at the PCs. Hmmmm...

but I am totally disgusted with it.

I am starting over. I played with my Avengers HDE file to make it work better.

There are now almost no numbers on the sheet.

Here's Captain America again

Here's Ms.Marvel . Again.

And Thor, again.

Et tu, Hawk-eye ? and Mockingbird

Revamped Iron Man up.
