Matt the Bruins
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions DC Heroes back in the 90s was pretty playable. The game system made it kind of hard for street level characters to be distinctive, but the actual running went pretty smoothly.
Greywind
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions I didn't much care for the open-ended rolling possibilities. Robin punting Superman in the family jewels once was enough to put me off that.
Cassandra
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions The problem with the DC game is that it had Gorilla Grodd with the STR to lift an Air Craft Carrier. A Gorilla has a STR 25. If you think that's too low, play someone with starting characteristics and see how long you last.
Greywind
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions [h=3]Strength level[/h] Grodd posseses super strength somehwere between class 50 and 75. He was able to engage Kalibak in hand-to-hand combat but was visibly not quite as strong as Kalibak. http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Gorilla_Grodd_%28New_Earth%
Cassandra
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions Which is ridiculous. Grodd is a Gorilla with a human level intelligence and mental powers which may or may not come from a helmet (OAF). He has persuasion, conversation, even seduction (remember Giganta?), acrobatics, and breakfall. Toss in a few HA for his fighting ability and you have someone who can take on most superheroes. Greywind
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions Grodd isn't a normal gorilla. And he's not a villain a first-timer should be going up against.
Cassandra
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions True, but everyone has to start somewhere. I think the difference between Comic Book Characters and their RPG counterparts is that those in Comics/TV/Movies have no real rules governing their powers. What ever they need to do for the scene is allowed (Remember Superman throwing his chest shield in Superman 2?). Champions characters are built on points, and their abilities evolve as players gain experience. That's more realistic and gives the Players the chance to expand their skills and powers based on what they have learned.

Zen Archer
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions I didn't much care for the open-ended rolling possibilities. Robin punting Superman in the family jewels once was enough to put me off that. I thought the open-ended stuff was hilarious, but I tended not to use the DC characters much anyway. Plus, Superspeed was broken. Still, overall a pretty good system.
Egyptoid
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions we had the game at Mars-Con the blue and grey shape is the Quinjet parked on a building, from which Hawkeye is peppering bad guys. the white puffs on the building to the right is where his smoke arrow obscures. Cap is in the middle of the street, and Iron man is far to the left.

Egyptoid
Re: The Avengers Project for Champions the truly amazing thing to me was THREE different people walked by the table at the con, and said something about they had never seen, or never thought of, the idea of using Heroclix to run a supers (or sci-fi or other modern) RPG on a tabletop. 1. I would have thought it more common. 2. I feel good about spreading cool ideas.
