TheQuestionMan
Greetings Herodom, TheQuestionMan here working on his Champions of Vancouver Vol. 5 Campaign Setting and I ran head first into a brick wall. British Columbia, Canada has one of the longest coast lines in North America. Yet Champions of the North, Hidden Lands, and Atlantis barely mention the largest and deepest ocean in the world. A friend sent me a link to a new film coming out call Pacific Rim. Looks like Godzilla-ish mixed with Giant Robots. Anyway back to the Pacific Ocean on the door step of Vancouver, BC. It seems to me that it would be a great place for a race of Mermen, Homo Mermanus, Sea Folk, Atlanteans, Lemurians, etcetera, etcetera So here is a rough outline of what I have decided populates the Pacific Ocean. A group of hardy Atlantean Colonists explored the Seven Seas finally settled in the Northern Pacific Ocean. The colony thrived, grew, and eventually became a thriving metropolis under the waves. The vastness of the ocean and its depths prevented its discovery for several millennia. At the time of WWII the war in the Pacific threatened the safety of the city and its outlying communities. Using advanced Atlantean Technology and Magic they sealed the city and the outlying communities in domes. Salvaging the land dwelers Warmachines the created a Shadow Fleet and quietly aided the Allies against the Axis until the end of WWII. The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Horrified them and awoke monsters in the depths of the Marianas Trench. The Atlantean City State was almost destroyed. Resentment grew, but the land dwellers ignorance of their presence acted as a shield against greater conflict. As time passed the land dwellers began Nuclear weapons tests, on he Pacific Proving Grounds, in the Marshall Islands. Even worse was the dumping of sewer waste and garbarge becoming caught in the northern gyre creating vast dead zones. Finally in 2000, the King of this unnamed nation state sent a diplomatic envoy to Atlantis to seek Council. Surprised and pleased that the lost colony had survived and thrived they recieved lessons in Recent History, World Politics, and Current Events. The Envoy was shocked by the Atlantean position to the land dwellers befoulment of their home and poisoning of their world. The Envoy returned with an Embassy from Atlantis, the Royal Princess, and her Personal Bodyguard. The Atlanteans were stunned by the size of the population they found and the technology and magic. The old gods did not rule here and neither did the Elemental Church. The people were industrious and deeply concerned with the Land Dwellers world. The Elected Prince and his Council with Input of the Princess decided it was time to rejoin the people of this world. An embassy was sent to the United Nations in New York to establish relations. In the mean time the Elected Prince sent Agents into the World. Using the wealth aquired from the Sea, their Advanced Technology, and innate Mystical Abilities. They established themselves in every aspect of the Land Dweller world. More later... QM GM_Champion

Lord Liaden
Re: Atlantis Resources Here are a few notes about what the official published Champions Universe says is going on beneath the Pacific Ocean: Destruga, the original Island of Dr. Destroyer, was sunk not far west of Hawaii in 1991, and presumably remains at the bottom of the ocean, perhaps with some of Destroyer's technology surviving. Shadow Destroyer's own artificial island, Destruga II, was likewise sent to the bottom somewhere between the Cook Islands and Australia; however, Shadow D continued to house some of his Karkaradon shark-men there. Even with the recent defeat of Shadow D (in Champions Online) there's no reason to believe they aren't still there. The Lemurians have a presence in the Pacific as well. A palace belonging to the ancient Lemurian sorceror, Andrith the Golden, was discovered as far away as Monster Island. The Lemurians have also searched in the vicinity of the Cook Islands and Fiji for an ancient, powerful warship of their people lost in that region. Given those precedents, and the fact that Lemuria allied with the Axis during WW II, a "lost colony" of Lemurians in the Pacific is a strong possibility. My own modified-CU campaign features offshoots of both Atlantis and Lemuria in the Pacific Ocean. The Atlanteans are descendants of a group of Poseidon-worshippers who fled Atlantis when the majority of its people turned from worship of their gods. As they were faithful to him Poseidon transformed them to water-breathers as well when the Earth was wracked by the Cataclysm. The Lemurians descended from explorers who were shape-shifted into water-breathers at the time Andrith performed his spell to lengthen their lifespans. Since the spell trapped the Lemurians in the forms they wore at the time, these explorers remained in their amphibious reptilian shapes. Lord Liaden
Re: Atlantis Resources It seems from your outline that you're mashing up details for Atlantis for both the 4E and 5E CU, as well as elements not in either, e.g. "Advanced Technology." If that's the case, why not throw in some stranded tech-based aquatic aliens, such as the Aquarians from the 4E Alien Enemies? (FWIW in my games I made the Aquarians the same race as the "People of the Sea," the people of Blue Eel of VOICE. As drawn they strongly resemble each other, they have similar backgrounds, and Blue Eel's weapon appears technological.)
TheQuestionMan
Re: Atlantis Resources Aquatic Aliens would not be concidered part of Humanity. The intent is to create an Undersea Nation in the Pacific Ocean that after several millennia has decided to come put of isolation to save the world from the pollution of the Land Dwellers Nations. A Nation possessing Advanced (Undersea) Technology, Magic, and and a significant population. Their contact with the Land Dwellers began covertly during WWII and overtly in 2012 when establishing formal Diplomatic Relations with the United Nations, Pacific Rim Nations, and Atlantis. More later QM Maybe not human per se; but who says the aliens had to have crashed on this planet recently? For that matter, some aliens may have jiggered with human genes in the past to create an underwater offshoot of humanity as an experiment. In the CU the Progenitors could have done it, or whoever created the Birdpeople of Thaar.

TheQuestionMan
Re: Atlantis Resources I was hoping for support of a race of Homo Mermanus (Mermen/Atlanteans), a sub species of Homo Sapiens (Humans), and Children of Earth. I am looking for resources to create an actual civilization, cities, and people. Atlanteans, even colonists have a pre-existing culture in the Champions and Comic Book Universes. I hope that helps you understand me. Cheers QM

The leader to the dolphins complains about the pollution in the water and when Lisa apologizes for it he says "That was you?" Homer immediately grabs Lisa and offers her up and says "It was her all right. Take the one that wronged you."
DusterBoy
And don't forget Plato's Dialogues, especially Timeaus and Critias. It's where the Atlantis myth first gets mentioned after all.
