Brick Superheroine

Need help in setting up female brick superheroine. I have 34 points left to spend. Would it be better to lower her PRE to 15 or 20

I know that she wanted to be a fitness model and compete in Fitness and Figure competition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitness_and_figure_competition) before her mutant power appeared at age sixteen. I would like to be a fitness trainer when she is not being a superheroine. How do I make her physical description fit with her wanting fitness model and compete in Fitness and Figure competition?

At the age of eight years old she witnessed the murder of her seven year old sister. She is protective of children due to that.

What help can you give me in creating her superheroine costume.

The healing factor list is the correct one and fast healing should be deleted. I original had her as being 661lbs. I know that she 7'2'-7'5" tall. I want her to be fitness model and a personal fitness trainer. The thing with getting rPD/rED is right now I 34 points left to spend. I know for 30 points I can get rPD10/rED10. I am going to lower the PRE to 20 to get 10 points back. I need to also get the character some more skills.

How do I go about figuring out her costume? Tha picture make me think of Thundra (http://marvel.wikia.com/Thundra_%28Earth-715%29)

How would I show her characteristics movement powers, and certain powers such as regeneration and rPD/rED in her bio? How fast would my character be if she was real?

As much as I love pinup girl superheroines, you really don't have much concept here. She's a big, Nordic brick. That's all. Think of a concept, think of a name, and the rest follows.

So, you could go with "Red Valkyrie" and deck her out in Viking armor.

Or maybe play up her competition aspirations and go with the name of her last competition. Like, she won the "Ms. Olympia" contest right before developing powers, and she's been called by that title ever since... Maybe dress her up in a Classical Greek tunic-toga.

Or you could call her "Coppertop" and dress her up in metallic red lamee...

The problem is that you don't yet have a real idea of who she's supposed to be, even in a cartoony one-dimensional way. You seem to be thinking nothing but "buff redhead."

You've got not Resistant Defenses, so you're a bit soft when it comes to taking even a small gun shot. Also you're very light on skills.

Build wise, I'd lower the Body to 20, and use some of those points to give her a few Resistant PD/ED points (if your game is running as 32 for the high end, probably only need 12 of that Resistant). Put the rest in Skills, of some nature - even just Breakfall would help. If you want to flesh out fitness model/trainer - KS: Fitness Competitions and PS: Physical Trainer are good to have.

How attractive 3 Levels of Striking Appearance are is mostly going to be a campaign guidelines - she could be anywhere from way above average (most characters take 0 levels) to above average (most every Superhero has 1 level, many have 2) to Average (everyone puts points into this...). Generally, I'd guess she would be above average to way above average.

Costume wise, you could go as simple as a pair of jeans and a tank top. Or you could look into something more classic superhero, you just really need to pick colors for the body-suit they all wear. Maybe dark red boots/gloves and accents to match her hair color. The base color could be something more neutral - black, gray, or white. Or you could flash up a little and put in a brighter color (brighter red, yellow, or a blue). Does she wear a mask or are we working on Rule Of Cool for 'secret IDs' (I noticed that Secret ID is not a complication - so you either signalling you don't want to deal with one, or the campaign is just going to sort of gloss it over).

I would like her to be able to run at 35 mph. How do I show her sheet in her bio? How would I show rPD10/rED10 in her bio? I found a write-up of Thor from Avengers Earth Mightest Heroes cartoon which has 10 rPD/10 rED

Is having a PRE of 30 starting out all that great? Would it better if I have her have red hair and green eyes to show her Norwegian heritage? Would I better of making her weigh less then 661 pounds? If I should then what would be a good weight for her since she is 7'5"?

I like some of Thundra's outfit.

Ah! how to describe the mechanics of the character in English.

Depends on the general special effects and all that. Most of the time just saying "she's superhumanly fast and strong" is enough. If you want to get more specific, you can mention she's tough enough to withstand most small arms fire, can lift a truck over her head (or whatever her maximum STR allows her to lift), can run faster than the fastest Olympic sprinter.. and so on.

If you really want, I'm currently building a very similar character for an upcoming campaign and I can walk through my entire process of "character description to mechanics" for you.

First, the campaign is High-Powered, so the point totals are 500 with defenses and such running higher than the average Champions game. It's also a Necessary Evil style campaign, so I need to make a 'villain' that isn't completely unlikeable.

Mrs. Steel part 1

A mutant, Mrs. Steel (not her real name) is going to be in the top tier of strongest people on the planet, standing at about 6'2 with an athletic build - being a superhero mutant means I can make her super-strong without requiring her to look the part. She's also incredibly tough and all but ignores guns, grenades, most bombs, and possibly even the occasional tank round. She's just plain hard to hurt, and even hard to move. Her body is resilient and capable of things the average person is not.

STR 75

CON 25

PD/ED 33

REC 15

END 55

BODY 14

STUN 56

Hard As Steel: Hardened for 33 PD/ED

Indestructible: Resistant for 19 PD/ED

Tough As Nails: Damage Reduction 25% Physical and Energy

Immovable Object: Knockback Resistance: -10m

Immutable Form: 10 Power Defense

Invulnerable: Life Support (Immunity All terrestrial poisons; Immunity: All terrestrial diseases; Safe in High Pressure; Safe in High Radiation; Safe in Intense Cold; Safe in Intense Heat; Safe in Low Pressure/Vacuum; Self-Contained Breathing; Sleeping: Character only has to sleep 8 hours per year)

(I'll get to the Sleeping part of the Life Support later). But that's a basic template for the 'tough' part of the brick build. I wanted her bullet proof (Hardened, Resistant defenses that can completely ignore the Body Damage from 3D6+1 Killing, or about 10 Damage Classes) and enough total PD to completely ignore an average 10DCs Normal Attack (33 Stun). I chose Damage Reduction over a few more points of defense to take the bite out of the higher damage that this campaign will bring about - you'll notice just a basic punch from this character is 15D6 Normal. Which is right about the High Powered Campaign normal, but above a standard superhero.

Sticking with Physical abilities, I also want her to be athletic, as per the description - she's not a muscled heavy break (despite the strength), she's a fairly nimble, athletic fighter - usually to the surprise of her enemies looking for the slow brick. Also, she's a classic 'flying brick' giving her even more of an edge over your average bar room brawler. During her past adventures she spent some time in Sri Lanka, studying under some warrior monks there (hey, this is a Superhero universe, these kinds of things are common). So not only is she an incredibly tough and strong person, she's quick on her feet. At the same time, most people can't hurt her either, so she's rarely ever had to duck out of the way.

DEX 18

OCV 8

DCV 5

SPD 6

Running 16m

Leaping 8m

Unstoppable Force: 20m Flight, x4 Noncombat

Zen Mind: 10 Mental Defense

Martial Arts: Angampora (the martial art native to Sri Lanka)

1) Hold (Martial Grab)

2) Block (Martial Block)

3) Punches/Kicks/Elbow Strikes (Martial Strike)

[there are several more maneuvers in the art, but I didn't want a full martial artist, just someone who is still studying the art]

Skills with the art:

Acrobatics

Breakfall

PS: Dancing

KS: Angampora

Language: Sinhalese (completely fluent) [the most common language spoken in Sri Lanka]

Cultural Knowledge: Sri Lanka

This fill out that step - she's a nimble, hard hitting, and capable fighter, but not an expert.

Filling out the rest of the Characteristics block; She's smart, but not a genius, and she's well within normal human range mentally. She's not a dumb brick, but she isn't going to be a high-level thinker, nor is she incredibly ambitious - Mrs. Steel likes a good fight, and a good party. However, she's not just tall, she's a statuesque beauty - a head turner that easily grabs your attention, and is very beautiful.

INT 13

EGO 13

PRE 20

Striking Appearance +3/+3D6

Now, some of her background and role in the campaign world; Like I mentioned this is a Necessary Evil style campaign, where aliens invade, and the end result is all the world's heroes (and many villains) are killed off and only a handful of not-so-nice supervillains get to kick the aliens off the planet. So I'm going to be making a former supervillain, without resorting to an unlikable killer. Mrs. Steel was a mob enforcer - and despite being so powerful, liked the lower tiers, but mostly she likes a good time - either in a night club or hitting some poor scum criminal. While she went wherever the mob needed her (New York, Chicago, New Jersey, Boston, even Las Vegas... she really liked to stay in Miami - where the weather is almost always nice).

This is where that Life Support: Sleeping comes in, she can literally party for days on end.

Clubbing Until Dawn - a small set of skills that take her party side of life, from biker bar to nightclub to high end casino:

Acting

Charm

Conversaion

AK: Miami.

Mob Enforcer

Interrogation

Persuasion

Stealth

Streetwise

Weapon Familiarity: Small Arms

KS: Organized Crime

Contacts: I know a guy... 11-

Alright, some skill to represent what I want: A party girl, who helps the mob when it needs someone to go in and enforce its policies. She's picked up a few tricks of the trade, and can handle a gun because sometimes you just need to threaten someone with something they understand (a gun in the face when you don't want to reveal you can hoist a tank is useful).

And finally, a signature aspect. Something that isn't a big deal, but helps create a kind of Comic Book Superhero flavor - a bit of flair. I need a costume, because she's a mob enforcer, and really a bit of a thug when you get down to it, she doesn't buy into the superhero costume bit. She does, however, have a 'uniform' - a finely tailored three piece suit and because I want to hilight it a little, no matter when scrape she gets into, or blown up, or how much she's shot - she always looks good.

I Make This Look Good: Cosmetic Transform 1d6 (The Suit always looks perfect and clean), Trigger (Activating the Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action, Trigger resets automatically, immediately after it activates; +3/4) (5 Active Points); Limited Target (The Suit only; -1)

If you catch her out clubbing you get the usual comic book shredded clothes. But if she has to come for you, dressed nicely and being very polite about breaking your kneecaps, her suit stays immaculate and unharmed.

And finally, Complications;

Mob Related:

Social Complication: Mob Enemies (Hunted; less powerful, trying to kill/harm) - someone is always after her, but she's the big shark in the pond at the mob level of things. It's an annoyance.

Social Complication: I Owe This Guy... (the opposite of I Know This Guy - someone has her as a contact, favor for a favor).

All that beauty stands out:

Distinctive Features: Stunningly beautiful and tall woman

But she likes to hit things, and is enthusiastic about it:

Enraged: In a Fight (Go 11-, recover 11-) - Sometimes she just gets carried away in the moment.

Negative Reputation: A little too eager to fight, loose cannon - sometimes you need the subtle approach, Mrs. Steel is not subtle.

And her personality, she's flighty at times, likes a good party over world domination, and isn't really into that whole 'running the business' - a good thug. And along those lines, given how tough she is, she tends to be blasé about danger - in fact she flat out ignores it most of the time:

Psychological Complication: Capricious

Psychological Complication: Completely Fearless

There you go; I've taken some descriptive aspects of the character, minus a few details pertaining to the campaign, and turned them into a set of abilities, powers, and skills. This is just a first draft though, and things are likely to change with GM input - but it's a solid enough framework to hang onto.

What you really need to do is decide a few key aspects:

1) Type of character you want superhero wise ('brick' in this case)

2) How you want them to fit into a group dynamic (front line)

3) Some basic ideas of how the character fits into the world outside a fight (mob enforcer, party girl, and budding martial artist)

4) directions to go with it - I can take her down a more serious road and bring out the martial artist aspects, just become an even bigger wall (adding Impenetrable to the defenses, making the Dmg Reduction Resistant as well, maybe even increasing them if appropriate), or create a fighter with more options (some Brick Tricks possibly). Maybe she'll become a leader (adding some leadership like skills - Tactics, Teamwork, Oratory, or Followers if appropriate).

I hope that helps with the idea of moving back and forth between narrative description of a character and character build.

Here's the Hero Designer file. I based her on what I know that some trainer's know (esp if they went to college and earned a degree in Physical Ed). The various Pre Skills showcase her ability to run Fitness classes, motivate clients both in person and in a group.

my 2 cents: 42 total DEF is excessive, if your going to give her 10 rDEF drop her normal PD/ED down to 22.

She has 6 OCV and NO CSL's, that means she will basically NEVER be able to hit anyone who is actually trying to avoid her, nor does she have any abilities that allow her to circumvent this. Either some CSL's, MA (Brawling) or AOE's are really needed before she will be able to actually participate in combat effectively.

Her PRE is fine, combined with her Striking Appearance bonus she can reach 9d6 (31.5 avg) which should be enough to be successful vs most opponents.

Charm at 17- may be a little high (dont forget she will get +3 to this with her striking appearance in most cases) unless you are planning to REALLY work that angle with this character.

Thanks for your help Tasha.

I like how you give my character Oratory, Conversation, and Persuasion.

Oratory for when she's teaching a Fitness class

Conversation when she's talking one to one with a client about their fitness goals and what they are and are not doing to meet said goals

Persuasion for getting clients to push harder and to give up on bad foods.

Trading for when she sells clients more months of Personal Training. :D

Your welcome, She just needed a few tweaks.

BTW characters rarely need more than a 15- base skill roll. If she ends up needing more because of penalties to rolls, the buy some skill levels with groups of the skills (ie Oratory, Conversation, Persuasion). :D

Having her have a secert ID would be a good thing? How much running would she need to run at 60 mph?

Would weighing less help out as a fitness model and fitness competions?

60MPH= 97 KPH or 97000 Meters Per Hour: 3600 seconds in an hour: 27m per second x 3 seconds between phases = 80m/phase (I assume Non combat speed) so 80/4x Non Combat Multiplier = 20m combat speed with a x4 Non Combat Multiplier

Weight doesn't really mean anything unless it's expressed in a way that makes her look flabby or fat. So she could be 600kg (3x avg human weight) and still look muscular and defined.

A Secret ID would be a good thing, but since there are weigh ins at some Fitness competitions ie could be hard to keep esp if she keeps the Physical Limit of being Heavier than normal.
