Origin:  Juno came into existence some 3400 years ago as one of the third generation of super-humans on Earth.  She and her twin brother Jupiter founded what would become known as the Roman Pantheon, a group of super-humans who guided those who would create the Roman Republic.  After the Republic collapse and became an Empire, Juno dissolved the Pantheon over the objections of Jupiter, who then disappeared.  

      Under a variety of mortal guises Juno traveled the world, often with those who would become famous explorers.  She went to China with Marco Polo, and sailed with Columbus to America.  Her telepathic ability along with her super-strength and lightning powers made her handy to have around.  

      For centuries Juno wandered, occasionally running into other former "Deities".  Once encounter was with Hera, Queen of the Olympians.  They had be rivals in ancient times, but found that they had much in common and became friends.  Centuries later Juno would take part in the fight to restore Hera as Queen after she had been disposed by Hecate.

      During the American Revolution Juno was one of the super-humans to accept Gen. George Washington's invitation to fight on the side of the Continental Army against the British in exchange for a place to live in peace.  Juno became known as the "Angel of Valley Forge" for her airlifting food and medicine to Washington's Army.  When Washington was elected President one of the first things he did was make Juno an American Citizen in gratitude.

     For the next two centuries Juno made a home in the United States.  She became a Sheriff of a small Texas town in the Old West, got a medical degree from John Hopkins in 1897, and enjoyed life as a Socialite in the Roaring Twenties.  Although she enjoyed her time in America, she felt without purpose.  That all changed after she received in invitation to a party from a friend in Rome.

     Gladiator was a super-human fighter and Italian patriot.  Unfortunately he was unwilling to recognized the evil and corruption of Mussolini.  Juno tried to impress upon him the need to fight for Democracy, but Gladiator tried to recruit her into becoming the figurehead of a new Roman Pantheon.  Gladiator believed if she agreed then the other former members would return to follow her, and they would help rebuild the Roman Empire.

     When Juno rejected him and tries to leave she was attacked by a number of Mussolini's Black Shirts.  She easily defeated them, but Gladiator came up from behind and clamped a mask with a paralyzing drug over Juno's nose and mouth.  He delivered her to the Italian Dictator who looked over his prize.  Juno used her telepathy to insult Mussolini's manhood, causing him to lose his temper and strike her, causing the mask to be knocked off, freeing her.   A blast of lightning kept the Dictator from sitting for a week.

      Juno returned to New York and talked with her friend Hera, who was married to an American industrialist.  Hera asked Juno to talk with her son who was the superhero Ultraman, and his ally Nighthawk.  They were building a combined superhero/crime fighter team to battle the growing Axis threat.  Juno was reluctant, but after she was nearly kidnapped by the Fifth Column operative known as the Turncoat she decided the join the fight.

      Known first as Lady Lightning, a name she received as a Sheriff in the Old West, Juno was a member of the United Superheroes of America for decades.  During the time she established the identity of actress Regina Saetta.  She made a number of Italian Westerns, earning the nickname "The Spaghetti Western Dish".  Her true acting claim to fame came in the late 1970s when she starred in the fictionalized TV version of her friend and teammate Lady Liberty's superhero career.  

      Twenty years ago she was engaged to U.S. Senator John Reynolds.  Her world was shattered when he died in a plane crash.  Juno retired from the United Superheroes of America, and began wandering the world again.  She recently was in Los Angeles when Liberty put out an emergency call when Stalwart was badly injured.  Flying to the scene she helped Liberty defeat Rampage, and impressed by the young heroine, who happened to be Lady Liberty's daughter, Juno joined her team replacing the injured Stalwart.

 

Appearance:  Juno is a classically beautiful woman with reddish brown hair and green eyes.  She is 5'11", and  160 lbs..  She has an impressive figure, and appears to be in her mid-thirties.  Her costume is a long red textured sleeveless gown, black boots, with a gold belt and bracelets.  On her right bracelet is a small crystal sword, and on her left bracelet a small crystal shield.  Juno can summon a golden sword and shield at will, even without wearing the bracelets.  Since the 1880s she has worn a black holster with a .45 cal. revolver.  During her time in the old west she wore a black gaucho hat and black duster coat.  

 

Quote:  "Being Queen of the Roman Pantheon is like being the lead singer of a cover band."

 

Powers/Skills:  Juno is has superhuman strength, and is extremely durable.  Her body can survive temperature extremes, and her physiology requires less food and sleep then most humans.  Furthermore she is immortal, and is immune to disease.

      Her powers are magic based.  Juno is a powerful telepath, and can search out minds at a distance.  She can also fire lightning bolts from her hands.  As years have gone by Juno has discovered that she is now longer completely immune to the weapons of man.  For more protection she has taken to carry a small golden shield for protection.   In close combat she uses a sword, but chooses to use the flat side as a bludgeon rather then risk during permanent harm to anyone.  As a back up she carries a .45 cal. revolver and is an expert at the fast draw.  Juno is capable of flight, and can fly at speeds up to 7440 mph (Mach 10.8).

     Juno is a licensed physician, and also has training in criminology, and acting.  She speaks several language, and can talk like a native in English, Italian, and Latin.  As Queen of the Roman Pantheon she has the loyalty of those members still on Earth.

     Juno will be the first to admit she should know more about the historical events of her lifetime, but points out that she immortal, not omniscient.  She freely admits that she learn about many historical events after reading about them in books centuries later.

 

Personality:  Juno once projected an aura of  regalness, but over the centuries has become friendlier and open, something she credits to her time in American.  She is proud and loyal to the adopted country, and fiercely protective of it.  Since joining the United Superheroes of American she finally found a group of people she considers to be friends.  With the death of the man she loved she fell into a deep depression, feeling a sense of loss that left her paralyzed for nearly twenty years.  She was drawn to Los Angeles for some mysterious reason, and felt compelled to join Liberty's team. 

 

Relationships: 

 

 Aurora - Juno developed an instant like of the young heroine Aurora, and has taken her under her wing, teaching her things like fashion and the world outside the superhero life.

 

Liberty - Juno was so impressed by Liberty the first time they met that she asked her old friend Nighthawk, then President of the United Superheroes of America, to help her join the team.

 

Nemesis - Juno respects Nemesis' ability and a crime fighter and surveillance expert.  She doesn't like the fact that Nemesis spies on her (as she does her other teammates), and worries that she believes too much in the possibility of a "zombie apocalypse."  Juno has not made an issue of it in the oft chance Nemesis might be right.

 

Ares - Juno is attracted to the Powered Armor hero, but is wary of starting a romantic relationship with him for two reasons.  One is that Ares has been twice married to other team members, and both those marriage ended in divorce (though he as remained friendly with both his ex-wives).  And two, Ares is the son of Nighthawk who Juno has a relationship with shortly after she joined the team.

 

 

Stalwart - Juno is somewhat protective of Stalwart, the grandson of Hera, despite his power.  She still sees him as the young man she watched growing up.  

 

Nighthawk - Juno, like many of the female members of the United Superheroes of America, found herself instantly attracted to the Crime Fighter.  They dated for a few months, and when they ended their relationship they remained friends.  

 

Hunted/Watched:

 

C.R.I.S.I.S. - The Crisis Response, Intelligence, Security, & Investigation Service is the U.S. Governments organization dealing with superhuman heroes and villains.  All Federal Licensed superheroes have their activities monitored by the organization.  It provides logistical and transportation services in exchanged for having the heroes go on mission for it.

 

Fifth Column - An international terrorist/espionage organization that has existed for centuries with the goal of world domination.  It came to light during the Second World War.

 

Turncoat - A corrupt State Department official who spied for various countries as a member of the Fifth Column.  He attempted to kidnap Juno at behest of the Italian government during the war.  He was exposed a spy and a traitor.  His son, also a diplomat, and taken up where he left off, and blames Juno for his father's exposure.

 

Monarch - Mysterious financier Rex Roman who after some kind of accident is forced to wear a life sustaining set of powered armor.  He married into the British Royal family, and had become Regent after they were killed in a terrorist attack.  His reasons for keeping Juno under surveillance are unknown.

 

Gladiator - Italian Patriot and Juno's Ex-Lover.  Attempted to turn Juno over to Mussolini in a plot to resurrect the Roman Empire.  Still in love with Juno and wants her to marry him.

 

Ghostslinger - Gunfighter with the power to phase who Juno defeated in the Old West, and who wants a rematch.

 

Trivia

Hates it when someone asks why she married her own brother, and points out that she and Jupiter are brother and sister, and it was Zeus and Hera who were married.

Origin:  Whitney Penelope Sloane is the daughter of Eve Hastings Clark Sloane, who was the Nightingale, a crime fighter from the 1940s who is still active.  She joined the U.S. Marines because of family tradition, and served six years rising to the rank of Sergeant. Whitney was then recruited by C.R.I.S.I.S. and learned about surveillance techniques through them.  After five years she resigned to become a crime fighter, taking the code name Nemesis. 

     She was trained by Liberty, who despite being younger then her had already developed an impressive reputation as a superheroine.  Deducing Whitney's weakness she set up a situation that almost prevented her from becoming a crime fighter.  Fortunately Whitney rose to the challenge and past the test.  She took the code name Nemesis, and was put into the United Superheroes of America Special Operations Program.  This meant that she was assigned to various teams around the country because of her skill set.

     Nemesis developed a good reputation as a Crime Fighter, but despite working with a number of groups felt isolated.  When she heard that Liberty had suddenly retired, Nemesis remained with the team for a few more years, but eventually started a solo career.  She still maintained contact with the United Superheroes of America, but undertook missions for the Crisis Response Intelligence Security & Investigation Service.  It was during a mission for C.R.I.S.I.S. she first encountered the super-villain known as the Sky Pirate.  

     She tracked down the Sky Pirate after to an abandoned shipyard in Los Angeles.  It was there she met up with Liberty, who had come out of retirement, and the new super heroine Aurora.  After the three of them took down the Sky Pirate, Liberty offered her a place on the team she was forming.  Nemesis readily agreed.

 

 

Appearance:  Whitney Penelope Sloane is a tall beautiful woman with red hair and blue eyes.  Her Nemesis costume is a black and crimson bodysuit, black boots, gloves, cape, and mask.  She wears a black weapons belt with a pistol, and a number of weapons pouches.  She is 5'8", and 150 lbs., and has an athletic build.  Whitney tends to wear jeans and t-shirts when off duty or undercover.

 

 

Powers/Skills:  Nemesis is a well trained martial artist, and excellent shot with her silenced pistol.  She carries a number of mini-grenades and special weapons.  Nemesis is a trained surveillance expert, and uses her skills to learn all about her targets plans and weaknesses before striking.  Her main form of transportation is a motorcycle.

 

 

Personality:  Whitney Sloane is the middle daughter of three to a legendary crime fighter.  Her grandfather was a Marine Medal of Honor recipient, and her uncle is Commandant of the Marine Corps.  She feels she has to live up to the family tradition of achievement.  This does not mean she doesn't have a sense of humor.  For several years Nemesis has dropped hints that she is secretly preparing for a Zombie apocalypse.  In reality she doesn't even like Zombie movies.

   

 

Relationships:   She is very close to her mother and sisters.  Her relationships with men have been casual, and she has no interest in anything permanent.  Although she would never admit it, she greatly admires Liberty and is grateful for giving her the ability to ask for help.

Some villains would be nice.

 

Evil counterparts would be easy - Bizarro, Sinestro, Professor Zoom.

 

More useful - Captain Cold (as a model for other Rogues), Riddler (a model for lots of Batman's foes), Cheetah.

 

Useful Marvel villains - Doc Ock, Sandman (opponent of both Spidey and the FF), some evil mutants, etc.
