So Australia has domesticated giant predatory lizards to fill the same niche?  That... makes perfect sense.

I don't know if they are entirely domesticated, though, but I have seen photos of one  stuck on the side of a friend's house.  It  was about five feet long excluding the tail.He has since moved to Kansas to be with a girlfriend, not the goana, the friend.

I suppose this can go in the political thread, but it counts more as strange or quirky.

So California is now using d20s to solve their election issues?

Sounds to me like another fantastic argument in favor of 3d6.

Eurasia had wolves.  Australia has giant lizards.

Only because we were not beaten by birds.

We instead punted any fowl play.

And he even won on a Natural 20. That has style!

Actually d20 has four more options.

Looks like a Chessex die; they have those nice swirly metallic color combos and are relatively inexpensive for a set.

And a better distribution of results too.

I actually once heard a theory about how those cureses work - and why you should not shower/bathe before entering a Tomb:

It is theorize that inside those well sealed tombs, a lot of old bacteria and virusses survive. The kind moden humans no longer have resistences against.

If you wash before opening, you risk the bacterial spores/viruses to enter through your pores. And killing you.

I wouldn't use a d20 for this job. There are so many chances for manufacturing errors to warp something in it to make it less fair. I'd use a single casino-standard d6 for the job with equal weight on all sides. That gives you a better chance of a fair roll.

That’s probably why they had both guys roll the same die. Casino dice would have been fairer, but the optics might have been worse.

Plus someone would have had to organize Casino dice, giving that person a option to manipulate the dice.

Unpredictability is half the part of getting usefull randomness. Including unpredictabiltiy of wich dice you are using.

A Michigan priest is under fire over the homily he gave at the funeral of a teenager who had committed suicide, in which he explicitly condemned suicide and implicitly condemned the young man he was burying

Suicide is, of course, a "mortal sin" in Catholicism, and is also condemned by every other Christian denomination. What made this homily different, and what alarmed the family and mourners, is the priest's brutal honesty at a time when families seek comfort and closure. Family and mourners alike were distressed. Now the family is seeking to meet the local Archbishop to have the priest dismissed.
