If your spouse dies and comes back as a vampire, are you still married? ("'Til death do you part" suggests no, but a lawyer might argue that traditional working does not constitute a formal clause of a legally binding contract. OTOH American law does recognize the existence of common law.)

I guess it is the same thing that happens if someone is otherwise declared dead. I mean we have been winging the legal definition of "dead" since forever.  You are not legally dead. You are declared legally dead by a judge. Judges screw up. It has to be undone.

Undead would just be a expansion of that age old issue.

With a Vampire, even prooving that the person was death becomes tricky.

Occasionally subtle points...proving that you were at A, when a crime was committed at B a few miles away, isn't much of a defense if teleport or duplication are in play.  Or shapeshift...no, it wasn't you, it was someone imitating you.  At A *or* B. :)  Mind control as a defense, is probably going to strongly depend on how the GM implements it.  Details will matter.  Can a witness voluntarily accede to telepathic reading, and would it be admissible?

Teleport:
In my world cars exist. I know how to drive one.
Does that mean I have to provide a Alibi that covers the driving time? Or only the time I can get there with the bus?

Just because teleportation is a thing, does that imply that I have teleportation? If the person can teleport, he will propably escape prision the first chance. And at that point you know the person has teleport.

Shapeshift:

Trickier, but cases of "sharing your face" do exist. Alibi's and DNA samples usually disolve that. It only makes a Alibi slightly more viable or slightly less viable (if you are likely to know someone).

Mind control:
People have been trying to argue they were "drunk" during a crime way too often. Or under duress. Mind Control would be a variant of this.

Voluntary mindreading:

Would that not just fall under verified Translation? And thus be only as reliable as any other transaltion by a verified translator?

The answers are confusing. Some say it will never be paid. Some say it will be paid retroactively eventuially. Somewhere starting in 2020 I think?

The downside with having computers handle stuff for you, is that you lack the personal to quickly fix any errors of this magnitude.

They got caught. Lost their job. Went into prision. The victims record was set straight.

Issues with other parts of the Legal System that did not catch this sooner must be delt with seperately.

That is about all we can do against a intentional sabotage.

And always remember:

People in a Autocracy often asume less of this stuff happens because less is reported about. That is a flaw. This is the democratic and legal system working.

This happened just up the street from me. A guy went on a drug fueled assault and destruction rampage. At least he didn't have a gun.

I asume the certain guy will decide the war on drugs is a good solution to this?

Despite literal decades of evidence to the contrary?

Given the actions sent one man to prison for five years, and IIRC had another deported, I think "working" would be a longer prison term for the guy who spat on his duty and the laws he was supposed to uphold. That and yes, people see this stuff, and wonder that if it's not like a roach... you see one, you know you're missing a dozen.

And yes, I think that destroys faith in the legal system

See the third paragraph here, and then here, and bunch of things here, ....

(The first one happened while I was in Texas, but happily I was smart enough to stay out of San Jacinto County; the second one happened right before I got there, but the aftermath was still going on; ....

Nice. But the old one is still here, waaay at the bottom of the emoji drop-down menu. Most of the animated emojis are there.

"Democracy is the worst government form - except for all the other ones we have tried so far."

I do not say it was perfect.

I do not say it was good.

But it damn well beats any of the alternatives!

Episode 4: A new Hope (to not see Porn at Starbucks by accident)

Epsiode 5: The (porn) Empire strikes back

Episode 6: Revenge of the Porn Admins?

In reality it will propably not affect Starbuck that much. Their whole "shtick" is being a meeting place where they sell overpriced coffee. The coffee price is basically just an entry fee. So it is not like they had a choice on the mater.

Well, that's dandy, as I'm a big supporter of democracy. I never never said it was perfect, good, or didn't beat the alternatives?? Nor did I say that YOU said it was perfect, Good, or didn't beat the alternatives.

. *shrug* I do think 3 years  (With a chance of time off for good behavior)  was a slap on the wrist for ruining or at least damaging several lives with such abuse  of civil power and the public trust.

YMMV on that.

I agree the sentence is lenient, but sentences are often reduced when the defendant admits and pleads guilty.

True.

On the flip side, we often get innocent people pleading guilty to crimes they did not commit for the very reason you mention.

Pardon the moment of 'pimp a charity' but for those of you who don't know, if you become multimillionares and get bored with cash...

And if you've got any Starbucks stock, consider dumping it.

Not for the porn thing, but because they just put one in my town.

Notice I did not say "city."  I said "town."

When you're popping up in places like this, you are _desperate_ for expansion.   Would anyone like pictures of an empty Starbucks?  (we farmers and construction workers aren't big on nine-dollar cups of coffee).
