New Ebola outbreak

The serious news here is that it is believed that this outbreak originated in an Ebola victim/survivor who had the disease five years ago as the point of origin.  Previously it has been believed that all Ebola outbreaks are due to new animal-to-human transmission cases.  The idea that someone could be infectious with Ebola years after being themselves infected is a significant new challenge.

First measurement of size of another planet's core

The InSight mission, which carried a seismometer to Mars, announced a measurement of Mars's core; 1810 to 1860 km, about half the size of Earth's.  Also implied is that it's got a lower density, which means its bulk composition is different from Earth's as well.

My only comment is completely non-political.  I find it amusing that Tussaud's Waxworks museum had a manager named Clay.

Not the first time, not the last time, but still...

I hope they bust the poster who threatened to find and kill the kid.  Jail time?  Perhaps not;  a criminal conviction alone will be something the poster will regret quite a bit.

On Quora I said rthis about own goals in soccer, but the modified version still applies -- a lost basketball game is not worth killing someone over. I hope they can protect this man well and find the person who gave out this death threat.

If it's a joke, it's not funny.

I'll start on the assumption that this was completely on the crew;  the shipping company had no involvement.
That said:  some people are *at least* going to get fired, and the captain will lose his license, even if (let's say) it was just the helmsman pulling a joke.  Failure to oversee to that degree is not forgivable.  And it's hard to see that it's NOT deliberate, so criminal charges have to be considered.

On Beagle and the rights...if his agent was hosing him...I hope he can stick it right back to that agent, and every one of the agent's clients bails on the <bleep>.

RIP George Segal

That will cause problems for The Goldbergs

Eight Simple Rules had a similar issue when John Ritter suddenly died. Instead of recasting his role, the next episode filmed addressed the issue of loss and grief head-on, playing out the traumatic effects it had on his passing and their loss. In other words, "if he dies, so does his character. No laugh track, no witty repartee, but real, raw, unfeigned grief.

Just when you thought Snowpiercer was only a bad TV show, Bill Gates is backing a plan to put chalk dust into the atmosphere to reflect solar radiation and cool the planet.
