DasBroot
We really *don't* have a blockbuster 'season' any longer.

zslane
The hype machine has definitely been working overtime on this one. I would expect a solid opening weekend. But will it have legs? Let's see how it does once Justice League hits theatres.
Starlord
It will be 2nd for a couple weeks, just like the studios predicted when they scheduled these movies. They'll both probably stay that way (since nothing else comes out this time of year) until everything gets crushed by Star Wars.
Hermit
Yeah, i"m not even that 'ooo must see' with the last Jedi, but Star Wars is going to pretty much own the box office. Even if Disney is ticking off a lot of theatres with its attempted changes to the usual set up
Christopher R Taylor
I'm not sure Star Wars is going to be as big as people anticipate. We'll see but I wonder if people aren't kind of burning out on the brand. Especially with the quality of the last bunch of films.
Starlord
There won't be burnout as long as Luke and older characters are still alive. If its bad, it'll still do at least $1.5 billion. If its actually good...wow. Matt the Bruins

Hermit
I'm torn. On one hand, as a fan, I would love to see the Fantastic Four and their villains interact with the MU on screen! Bazza
The Marvel Cinematic Universe Just Broke A Huge New Recordhttp://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/marvel-cinematic-universe-broke-huge-record/ Quote the MCU now sits at $5 billion at the domestic box office. To put that into perspective, no other franchise has reached that mark in North America. Not even one. In comparison, Star Wars is at $3.3 billion, not adjusted for ticket price inflation, the Harry Potter/Wizarding World franchise sits at $2.6 billion, the Batman franchise has $2.4 billion, the James Bond franchise has brought in $2.1 billion and Disney’s live-action re-imaginings have earned $2 billion. Yes, with villains like Reed Richards, everything will be in place to be able to make an Evil Thor clone/death-robot. Hermit
Fortunately, we've avoided the Comic Version of Civil War and instead got a movie one that actually, I don't know was GOOD. Ndreare
zslane
It's too bad that Fox is running with the Dark Phoenix storyline. I would have preferred to see that happen under Marvel's direction.

In strict terms that some owners are calling “the most onerous they’ve ever seen,” Disney is requiring 65 percent of ticket sales and a stipulation that the film be screened in the largest auditorium for at least five weeks. In short, Disney is strong arming HARD. They want the Lion's share and the jackal's share too.

megaplayboy
AIUI, Disney won't get Fox News, Fox Network Television or Fox Sports, so mostly just Fox Movie Studios. So that would mean, yes, getting back the rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all that comes with it..including Doctor Doom and Galactus. That would just leave the rights to make movies about Spider-Man, Hulk and Submariner as unsecured.
